In the meantime, there is a lot to solve. This guide was prepared in order to assist you to obtain your visa.

Before your arrival in Brazil, your first task is to contact and schedule a meeting with the brazilian consulate in your country to obtain a student visa (visto temporário do tipo IV). Depending on your country you can also obtain a CPF document (Cadastro de Pessoa Física), which is extre-mely useful and essential to open a bank account in Brazil.

The following steps are required after your arrival in Rio de Janeiro.

To be registered in Brazil, you need to make all the regis-tration procedures at the Federal Police as soon as possi-ble. In case you do not do it in 30 days after you enter the country, you will have to pay a daily fee. Here are the steps to make the registration:

1. Book a date at the Federal Police.

Enter this website and fill up everything that is marked in red: https://servicos.dpf.gov.br/sincreWeb/

At the last page, schedule a day and a time. Print it anyway, even if the closest available date available is only for after your 30th day in Brazil.

You can repeat this procedure some other day and see if there is a better date. However, if you can’t find it, you MUST go to the Federal Police on the day 30, very early, like 7am (because they only accept 30 persons each day).

2. Fill up the GRU (Guia de Recolhimento de União) form.

Enter the website: http://www.pf.gov.br/servicos/gru/imigracao-estrangeiros

Select pessoas e entidades estrangeiras

At unidade arrecadora, choose on the list: RJ 105-8 Delegacia do Aeroporto Internacional- Galeão

At código da receita, select these two codes:

- Código (Code) 140120 Taxa CARTEIRA DE ESTRAN-GEIRO DE PRIMEIRA VIA R$204,71 - Código (Code) 140082. Taxa REGISTRO DE ESTRAN-GEIROS/RESTABELECIMENTO DE REGISTRO R$64,58.

Fill and print the documents with codes 140120 and 140082.

At the end, there will be a document with an amount to be payed for each code. Print it and take the documents to a bank to pay in cash.

ATTENTION to the expiring date of the document!!!

3. Go to the Federal Police

The Federal Police is located at the Galeão International Airport, Terminal 1, 3rd floor.

You must present:

- The form you filled when you booked the date;- The GRU papers, with the stamp from the bank;- 2 pictures 3x4 (coloured, with a white background, and no big earrings and hair on your face, etc.);- the original document from your consular visa request;- authenticated photocopies from the pages of the passport that are used.

HOW TO OBTAIN THE CPFIf the brazilian consulate in your country do not provide the CPF you must follow the procedure described bellow:

The registration is requested at the agencies of Banco do Brasil, Caixa Econômica Federal or Correios (Post Office). It is necessary to present your passport and a proof of re-sidence . The cost of CPF is R$ 7,00 (maximum value to that can be charged). When the registration is requested on the agencies of Banco do Brasil, Caixa Econômica Fe-deral, or post offices (Correios), a protocol will be provided (“Comprovante de Inscrição no CPF” ). Carefully, check all the informations on the receipt.

If there is any error on the protocol you must request a rectification. Rectifications will be free of charge within 90 days from the date of registration request. Otherwise, costs will be applied. It is necessary to attend a Receita Federal Office to conclude the registration with the protocol and the passport. Also, you can attend the “Centro de Atenção ao Contribuinte” (Taxpayer Office) located in the Rio de Janeiro downtown:

HOW TO OPEN BANK ACCOUNTTo open a bank account it is necessary to present the do-cuments listed bellow. In particular for the students who receive a scholarship would be quite appropriate to open an account in Banco do Brasil. The agency at the UFRJ campus is located ate Av. Carlos Chagas Filho, 373 Prédio CCS, Bloco L). At this agency the staff is used to deal with students bank issues.

Required documents:1. Original and a copy of RNE and CPF2. Passport and copy of all used pages (no need to authen-ticate)3. Residence proof :3.1 residence declaration (see appendix) This document must be hand written by the owner of the apartment and the signature must be legally recognized in the Registry (Cartório).3.2 copy of receipt of water, gas or electricity bill3.3. copy of the landlord´s property identification4. Letter stating that you are officialy enrolled as a student at the Instituto de Química - UFRJ and also declaring the value of the scholarship.

COLOMBIASi esta leiendo estas líneas es probable-mente porque ha sido uno de los candidatos selecionados por la UFRJ, felicitaciones. Estudiar en la UFRJ y vivir en Rio de Janeiro con certeza va a ser uma expencia inolvidable e gratificante, sin embargo, para no tener muchos contratempos le invito a leer algunos consejos que sin duda serán bastante utiles. Lo primero que debe hacer, ademas de tramitar la visa, es tramitar el CPF, eso se puede hacer en la embajada de Brasil. Uma vez chegue a Rio usted tiene um mes de plazo para presentarse en la delegacia de policia Federal y tramitar el Registro Nacional de Estrangeiro (RNE), para eso es necessário el número del CPF. Sin estos documentos (RNE e CPF) no se puede abrir la cuenta banca-ria requerida para el pago de la beca. Otro documento impor-tante que debe traer es el registro civil de nacimiento, aqui la mayoria de processos burocráticos requieren un documento que certifique el nombre de sus padres. Con respecto al dine-ro, es importante que habilite uma cuenta bancaria para hacer retiros internacionales, pues a veces los trámites burocráticos pueden demorar y atrasar el pago del primer mes. Ademas, para buscar arriendo es bastante común que le pidan el de-posito por adelantado. Por último, aproveche su tempo al má-ximo y en cuanto pueda viaje y conosca este Brasil pluricultu-ral. PORTUGALDeste já quero dar-vos os parabéns por terem sido selecionados para a UFRJ. Estauniversidade e o Rio de Janeiro são locais ondese vão sentir em casa. O que é sem dúvida um ponto bastante importante para todos os que se afastam do seu país. A minha experiência está a ser muito positiva e quero aqui deixar algumas dicas, enquanto portuguesa, que me ajuda-ram bastante. Uma delas é a opcão de reservarem a viagem na agência Tagus, onde as viagens da TAP são diretas de ida e volta, a preços mais acessíveis com tarifa de estudante e que vos permite também alterar a data da viagem pagando apenas 40 euros. Outra dica muito importante para os primei-ros tempos é irem ao vosso banco em Portugal (no meu caso dirigi-me à caixa geral de depósitos) e fazerem o cartão de residente no estrangeiro. Os detentores deste cartão levan-tam dinheiro sem pagar quaisquer taxas. Relativamente ao seguro de saúde, obrigatório para fazer o visto, verifiquem se podem acionar o PB4 na segurança social o que vos possibi-lita poupar algum dinheiro. Estes assuntos são tratados em Portugal e facilita-vos muito a vida no Brasil, de resto o que vos tenho a dizer é que apro-veitem ao máximo esta experiência que de certeza vai ser inesquecível. VENEZUELAAntes que nada, FELICITACIONES por haber sido aceptado(a) en la UFRJ, y bienvenido (a) a Rio de Janeiro. Una ciudad tan llena de diversidad y al mismo tiempo tan arraigada a sus raices. De cualquier ciudad que vengas de Venezuela te vas a dar cuenta del cambio cultural y principalmente por la diferencia de idioma. Sin embargo, por experiencia propia, las personas aqui son bastante receptivas en ese aspecto. Va ser muy normal ver personas de varios paises en un mismo lugar, cada quien con sus costumbres, para mi ha sido una gran experiencia y te da una visión de lo grande es el mundo a pesar de que estamos en un pais vecino. Algo importan-te que quiero recomendarte, es que hables con tu orientador (a),es uno de tus principales apoyos, sobre algún lugar donde llegar temporalmente mientras que realizas todos los trámites que están mencionados arriba, para luego buscar con más calma la estadía definitiva. A pesar de ser un cambio signifi-cativo, confio en que esta guia te ayudará a hacer los trámites con más orden y celeridad. De nuevo dandote la bienvenida a Brasil, y esperando que disfrutes esta gran experiencia en la Universidad Federal de Rio de Janeiro.
