CONCERTS

Lizzie Fitch / Ryan TrecartinAstrup Fearnley Museet, until April 1st 12:00-17:00In the last decade, the critically acclaimed artist duo Lizzie Fitch and Ryan Trecartin have created large-scale video installations that examine the effects of technology and social media on identity formation and the mutability of language. Here the concept of “scripting” is foundational to the way the artists set the parameters for interaction, whether between humans, objects, or even environments, treating the source materials as words in poetic compositions. Astrup Fearnley Museet will exhibit one of the artists’ room size “sculptural theaters” Plaza Point (2009), alongside a major presentation of Fitch and Trecartin’s sculptures. This is the first museum show to focus on their sculptures as autonomous works, placed in an indoor “sculpture garden” within the main museum space. The works, made from an overwhelming variety of traditional and non-traditional materials, are single figures or complex narrative groups that express a simultaneously grotesque and celebratory view of human nature. Tickets on site.Address: Strandpromenaden 2

The Oriental Dawn of the BaroqueRiksscenen, 16th March at 20:00Classical European music did not develop in a European vacuum but was also influenced by encounters with different non-European cultures through the centuries. The musicians of the medieval times, the renaissance and the baroque era travelled a lot, and they brought home musical impressions and were inspired by their meetings with other cultures. The internationally renowned saxophonist Rolf-Erik Nystrøm has researched these influences, and this evening, he gathers a star team of musicians for a journey in renaissance, baroque and folk music from different parts of the world. In addition to original compositions and improvisations by the performers the journey will also include stops in Senegal, The Middle East, Tajikistan, Brazil, Spain, Shetland and Norway for a worldly musical evening.
