Jobs for Future MLPSGraduatesGraduates of the MLPS program may take on manage-ment responsibilities in companies in all sectors of the economy, such as supply chain specialist or logistics manager, manager of industrial or production depart-ment, manager of distribution or transport systems. They may also become project managers or work as sup-ply chain consultants or experts in quality management, industrial engineering and operations research. They often work in international firms where supply chainmanagement constitutes a real challenge and where the

TheMLPS master

Logistics has to do with the management of product and information flows throughout the supply chain and production system as well as the activities of companies in the service sector. The design, planning and optimization of logistics and production acti-vities has become a key factor for the productivity and performance of service in the increasingly competitive global economy. The constraints of sustainable development, combining economic, environmental and social goals render the management of logis-tic systems even more complex and constitute a new challenge. Logistics is concerned with all sectors of activities in the public or private environment.

The MLPS program aims at giving a competitive edge to young graduates as well as professio-nals with a first industrial experience by providing:• High level industrial engineering and management skills focused on supply chain management,• In depth knowledge and practice of systems modelling, optimization and decision making methods and tools,• An opportunity to put into practice theoretical concepts in a real industrial environment through conferences, projects, company visits and a six month industrial internship project.

The MLPS program benefits from the DNM label (National Master’s Diploma), a prestigious recognition from the French Ministry of Education after evaluation by recognized experts.

I chose to join the MPLS Master of the École des Mines de Nan-tes because it fit with my expecta-tions : high-level theoretical lectu-res, an internship in an industry which could enable me to put my knowledge to the test, and a stu-dying environment filled with a real international culture. I found

all this at the École des Mines de Nantes, and even more. The reception and accompaniment of foreign students made my integration much easier. Beyond theory, classes gave me a wi-der comprehension of the firm’s world and provided me very well defined work and analysis methods. The fieldwork I did at the frozen food company Iglo France allowed me to use and improve the knowledge I’ve learned. Thanks to the MPLS Master’s multicultural environment, I learned to adapt and to communicate with people coming from all over the world, which is essential today for my position in the energy sector. The combination of all those skills turns the 18 months I spent in Nantes into an essential asset with which to carry on my career.

The program aims at providing students with key compe-tencies in logistics management:

understanding of the key strategic, organizational and technological aspects of supply chain management,

ability to develop decision models for the planning and optimization of logistic, production and transport systems and to use them in an industrial context,

ability to manage projects in a complex environment,

ability to work within a group in a multidisciplinary international cultural environment,

double competency provided through their initial train-ing and the MLPS program, as well as their multicultural education is a definite asset. Challenging positions are also provided within national or international manage-ment consulting firms.Graduates of the MLPS program may also pursue their education towards a Ph.D. degree by joining the EM Nantes doctoral program and working on a doctoral thesis on a specific topic within the Production and Logistics Research Team of the School.

The MLPS Program The MLPS program is taught in English but French language training is provided throughout the academic part of the course. The program covers three semes-ters (semesters 8, 9 and 10 of the Master’s level in the European LMD Licence-Master-Doctorate system); from the month of February of the first year to July of the second year as follows:

Two academic semesters: 8 modules comprising coursework, projects, seminars, company visits and a research oriented project, as well as French language tuition and an introduction to French culture.

a semester devoted to an internship period to be carried out in industry or in an organization devoted to logistics or related areas. During this internship period, the student has to work on a project and write a Master’s thesis to be defended in an oral presentation. The internship may be carried out in France or abroad and is jointly supervised by a permanent faculty member and a company tutor.

José Granados - (Delphi, France)

MLPS is a career path with a lot of assets, but two of them were very important to me. The lectures were in English with additional French prepara-tion, and they dealt with the transportation is-sues. This is a strong growth sector, particularly in Mexico, where this kind of teaching is being implemented. This experience also changed my way of thinking.

Meeting people from very different cultures helped me to make wider my horizons. I realized it would allow me to travel and work almost everywhere in the world. At the Ecole des Mines de Nantes, I developed new goals for my future. Before I arrived to Nantes, I was planning to go back to Mexico after my studies, but after ending my six months internship in Va-leo, Paris, I wanted to continue on this career path. I looked for a job and found a six months engagement with a company in Stras-bourg. Learning in France also helped me to discover the French culture and meet a lot of European people.
