What Does Leadership means?
Leaders aren’t born, they are made. Leadership is helping themselves and other to do the things
correct. Leadership is a determination, Determination that produces hard work, willpower and an
unconditional wish to accomplish. Leadership lies in guiding others to succeed. Thus effective
leaders are defined by results not aspects.
The five qualities of effective leadership are:
Focus
Vision
Creativity
Simplicity &
Innovation
Is Steve Jobs a good leader?
Yes, Steve jobs is a good leader. The following leadership qualities applies to him
Focus: The ability to focus of the Steve Jobs focus is one important characteristic in a world full
of opportunities. This is the reason that the apple products are most loved by everyone
Vision: Steve jobs was committed to deliver the products that consumers would like, rather not
asking the customers what they wanted. He trusted on his vision.
Creativity: Steve jobs was a character with impressive creativity & amazing ideas of what the
future should look like. His advanced products have given customers not just what they desired
but what they didn’t yet think they desired.

Simplify: Steve Jobs focused on simplifying the things he created. He always simplified things
by eliminating the needless mechanisms. “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication,” was stated
Apple’s first promotion brochure.
Innovation: Steve Jobs has changed the world with his innovation. The world never expected a
product like iPhone when it was presented in the year2007. With touch screen, inbuilt
applications, and online store to purchase third-party apps, iPhone was drastically transformed as
a pocket computer to form a everlasting position in the technological industry.

RATAN TATA
Ratan Tata who was born on December 28th 1937 in Mumbai is an Indian Entrepreneur &
chairman of Tata Enterprise from the year 1991-2012. He is now a chairman of the Tata group’s
charitable trusts. Ratan Tata completed his school education in Mumbai from the Campion
school. He pursued B.S in architecture with structural engineering at Cornell University in the
year 1962, & in the year 1975 he pursued the advanced management program from Harvard
business school. During his tenure he was a chairman of the major Tata enterprises, plus Tata
steels, motors, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Power, Tata Global Beverages & Chemicals,
Indian Hotels and telecommunication sectors. Government of India honored Ratan Tata with its
second-highest citizen award, Padma Vibhushan, in the year 2008. Ratan Tata also received
nominal Ph.Ds. from numerous educational institutions in India and abroad. (Tatacom, 2015)

Tata is an Indian based global business group with products and services in over 150 countries.
Tata has over 580,000 employees. The Tata group’s revenue is $103.27 billion which makes it a
global leader in service sector. Tata business is diversified into the following sectors IT, telecom,
Jaguar Land Rover, steels & powers, hospitality, chemicals & Beverages. Mr. Tata was chairman
of the Tata group for more than two decades. Thus he is a living example of an eminent leader.
His soundless willpower has made the corporation a universal tag. (Tatacom, 2015)
Mr. Tata is not the kind of leader who gives enormous work to the table. He gently orders, and
for those whom the communication is spoken gets him very visibly. Ratan Tata Thinks big &
inspires others to also think big. He doesn’t dishearten anyone who fail to deliver the work

Ratan Tata has displayed that business can be done in clean & principled manner. Ratan Tata is
extensively esteemed for accomplishing outstanding results throughout his lifetime. He
confronted great challenges. He turned Tata Holdings into one of the most successful entities in
international business, while himself becoming one of the richest people in the world.
Apart from these there are possibly more vital reasons to appreciate the leader. Here are some:
Ratan Tata made some smart strategic & human decisions. After assuming the post of
chairman of Tata in the year 1991 Ratan Tata almost spent more than 10 years for redefining the
organization, turning a drowsy, entrenched national player into a bold global one. Ratan Tata
achieved in converting a intensely rooted corporate philosophy by taking on the squad of tycoons
who had been running the group’s larger companies, substituting them with fresher & new
energetic leaders.
Ratan Tata keeps a magnificent vision of probability and a capability to put things in a
greater context: Tata group became the first Indian enterprise to reach $100 billion in revenues
in the year 2012, with majority of it coming from overseas. But he is not satisfied yet.
Expressing his opinions on upcoming progress, Ratan Tata claims that the company should plan
to grow far more to achieve an yearly revenues of more than $500 billion in the coming years.
Clarity about who he is and what he stands for: Ratan Tata accomplished great professional
victory without losing vision of his fundamental principles, & without compromising his

and viewpoint & increasing the brand equity of Tata. This model provided Tata enterprises with
a agenda for measuring their trades holistically, & assuming actions to develop their competitive

Leadership Theories:
Great Man Theory: This theory simply assumes that great leaders are born.
Trait theory: this theory studies on examining the mental social as well as physical characteristic
in order to gain the trait theory of leadership focused on analyzing mental, physical and social
characteristic in order to achieve more understanding about the combination of the characteristics
those are common between leaders.
Behavioral theories: the one who focuses on the behavior of the leaders contrasting to their
social, physical & mental characteristics. This theory refers that leaders are made not born.
Contingency theories: This theory suggests that leader are more likely to express their leadership
when they feel that their followers will be responsive.
Transactional theories: The transaction made between the leader and his followers is often
known as transactional theory.
Transformational theories: is the theory when a person interacts with people to build a strong
relationship with a high percentage of trust that leads to motivation among the both leaders as

As Ratan Tata Has made massive contributions his Legacy remains to live on in Tata group. The
dimensions of his achievements independently & jointly represents the fundamentals of astute
leadership. If I were to Measure Leadership empirically, I would measure it in 10 leadership

A leaders Inheritance is measured by the assortment of the organization led by him. Tata group’s
alliance is a notable indication of the intelligence of tactical prioritization set in gesture by Ratan

competitive business. His innovation was shown off when he developed India’s indigenously
developed passenger car Indica. He also launched world’s cheapest four door car Tata Nano. His

Tata’s plan for affordable quality homes and more for India’s unique developmental needs.
Diversification:
A sensible leader diversifies his investments & product portfolio to not only achieve growth but
also counter cyclic trends. There is no organization in the globe who manufactures a supreme
range from the cheapest car Nano to the most expensive cars like Jaguars & Rovers. Ratan Tata
has diversified his investments from automobile industry to chemical industry and from it
industry to steel industry.
Harmonization:
An organization is not only known for its business but also for its brand equity that apparently
flows through the unconnected firms and stands out as binding strength across the independent
legal entities. Ratan Tata has played a prime role in branding the brand Tata both emotionally as
well as visually and also connecting each of the entities as a Tata enterprise.
Socialization:
Ratan Tata has always been active in the social development. Under the Ratan Tata’s leadership
the Tata group took a responsibility of spending 2% of its turnover towards Social cause. Ratan
Tata has also donated USD 50 million to Cornell university & USD50 million to Harvard
university as well to establish educational forums. This is the largest & most visible examples of
support by an industry for educational purpose.
Collaboration:
Tata group has taken a lead in public private collaboration & private collaboration, and all the
credit goes to Ratan Tata’s way of doing business. Over several years his leadership became
famous for the collaboration to get new technologies and various process into India. His major
collaboration was with Jaguar land Rover, Tetley, Corus, BP, Starbucks, Marco polo &
DoCoMo.
Reinvention:

Successful organizations reinvent often. Reinvention is usually related with hard decisions &
hectic transitions. A visionary leader reinvents his organization in periodical manner by making
it a positive DNA of the organization. Ratan Tata had ability to attain reinvention at the entity
level & as the group level productively, effortlessly & easily.
Transformation:
A great leader’s vision in life is transformation. Ratan Tata appears as a leader of boundless
strategic achievement on the benchmark of transformation. During Ratan Tata’s tenure the Tata
enterprise grew 50 times more to be a first Indian $100 billion group providing employment to
more than 500,000 individuals.
The two decade plus ultimate leadership of rattan Tata has made company appear 45 th rank
globally and top brand in India. Ratan Tata’s legacy will not only live but also inspire other in

Contributions of Ratan Tata towards his organization:
In the year 1998 Tata group launched its first passenger car Indica which became the top brand
in its segment in just two years.
Tata enterprise acquired Tetley tea which is the world’s second largest distributor and produce of
tea. It is also the second largest in UK.
Tata Company entered into Insurance sector by making a joint venture agreement with
American international group AIG.
Tata group acquired a stake in VSNL which was founded in the year 1986. And it became the
first Indian public sector undertaking to be registered on New York stock exchange.
In the year 2003 TCS was the first Indian software corporation to cross $1 billion in revenue.

In the year 2004 Tata Motors was registered on the New York Stock Exchange. During the same
year Tata also acquired the heavy automobiles unit of Daewoo Motors.
In the year 2007 Tata Steel acquired Anglo-Dutch Company Corus, which is the second-highest
steel manufacturer in EU.
In the year 2008 Tata Motors launched the car Nano, the nation's cheapest passenger car.
Jaguar & land rover was acquired from ford by Tata In the year 2008.
Tata formed a joint undertaking with Starbucks in the year 2012 & set up their first store in
Mumbai.
