POSITIVE OUTLOOK REMAINS FOR CHINA F&B INDUSTRY
The Chinese food and beverage industry has been marked by unprecedented growth over the last decade. Data from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China’s central planning agency, valued the total output of the food & beverage industry in 2013 at RMB 10.11 trillion ($1.65 trillion), for a 13.87% increase year on year, and the total industry profit at RMB 0.75 trillion ($0.12 trillion), up 13.6% from the previous year. Carbonated drinks and frozen foods posted the largest growth at over 15%.
NDRC expects the total output value of the industry to reach RMB 13 trillion in 2015, and RMB 20 trillion in 2020. This boom will be driven by country’s sizeable and still fast-growing middle-class consumer population and its increasing urbanization.
According to research, the outlook for Asian nutraceutical, functional food and beverage market is positive with CAGR predicted to reach 11.5% over the period of 2012-2017. China’s health F&B segment, in particular, is flexing its muscles, propelled by a growing middle class, rising aging populations, soaring obesity rates and the arrival of western companies and investment.

Purchasers in the manufacturing sector have more avenues to obtain information due to our multiple media environment. The buying process of purchasers is continuous including information search, information input, and processing to determine the final purchasing decision. In order to understand the influence of different media types on brand image and purchase intention, a recent study measured the important role of multiple media (trade magazines, industry websites, industry E-newsletters, and conferences).
The study collected data by conducting an Internet survey in China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam and the Phil ippines. Responses from 302 completed questionnaires were analyzed.
The conclusions of the study were as follows:
The media that is used, the information source & its trust worthiness play a significant role on the brand image. Simply put, if the medium is trusted, so is the brand being promoted.
A c o m p a n y ’s b r a n d i m a g e h a s t h e m o s t significant influence on purchase intentions in the manufacturing sector.
Trade magazines and industry websites have the most significant influence on creating a company’s brand image. Other effective marketing tools are conferences.
