Chungnam National University (CNU) is one of the

most prestigious national universities in the nation.

Since the establishment in May, 1952, CNU has

played as a national leading role in educating talented

youth and has participated in the local and national

communities’ economic and social development. We

have been providing an outstanding and challenging

curriculum that enable academically superior students

to become professional scholars.

Daejeon is South Korea’s fifth largest metropolis with

1.5 million population. Located in the center of South

Korea, Daejeon serves as a hub of transportation and

is at the crossroads of major transport routes. Daejeon

is one of South Korea’s administration hubs and is

home to 18 higher education institutes including

Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology

and Chungnam National University. Daejeon has

earned its name as ‘Asia’s Silicon Valley’ and ‘High

Technology City,’ as it has a number of R&D institutes

in cooperation with CNU.

South Korea is an East Asia nation on the southern

half of the Korean Peninsula and East Asia’s most

developed country. It is known for its green, hilly

countryside dotted with cherry trees and centuries-old

Buddhist temples, plus its beautiful golden beaches,

tropical islands and high-tech cities such as Seoul,

the capital.

International Exchange Programs

Students from partner institutions with exchange agreement can study at CNU

for at a semester or a year with tuition fees waived. Depending on agreements,

there may be other benefits such as accommodation fee exemption or free

Intensive Korean Language course.

Students are able to study for a semester or a year and have to pay for all costs

such as tuition, accommodation and others that may be occurred.

Same as the exchange program, one difference is that GSP students receive

full scholarships for tuition and accommodation fees with one-time stipend of

500,000-1,000,000 KRW.

Students can be granted double degrees from CNU and their home institution

after studying at both institutions for 2 years respectively.

SSIS is a short term program for students having interests in attending

academic courses and experiencing Korean culture throughout 7 weeks

in summer. Successfully admitted students will be offered scholarships for

tuition and accommodation fees and full support for diverse field trips and

cultural activities.

Students must have a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification for the undergraduate,

a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification for the graduate program, and a master’s

degree or an equivalent qualification for the doctoral degree.

3. Minimum accepted scores from recognized English proficiency tests are

: TOEIC 650, TOEFL (PBT 550, CBT 210, iBT 80), TEPS 550, IELTS 5.5

4. Level 3 or higher on a Test of Korean Proficiency supervised by the CNU

Language Eudcation Center

5. Completion of level 4 or higher in a Korean Language course at the CNU

Language Education Center

6.Interview is required for undergraduate applicants.

Korean Language Course at CNU is designed for

international students to be admitted to Korean

universities including Chungnam National University.

The students will be offered not only the Korean

language but also its traditional/modern culture.

More than 2,000 international students attend CNU

International Language Education Center every year.

Korean Language Education Center is designated

by NIIED Korean Government Scholarship Program.

In addition CNU Korean Language Education Center

has the highest number of students among national

universities, around 2,200 international students

every year.

1Beginners with no knowledge of Korean language will learn the principles of Korean vowels, consonants and pronunciation.

2Learners are expected to communicate in day-to-day simple Korean and will be able to communicate on their own in public settings such as post offices, banks and markets.

3 Learners are expected to express themselves mostly in Korean.10 weeks

4Basic social issues in Korea will be learned and understood, and they will gain skills/abilities to communicate in both work settings and university level class settings.

5Learners are expected to understand general social conditions of Korea and express themselves in Korean.

6Learners are expected to speak Korean freely and have no problem watch-

ing and listening to Korean movies, drama and news.

Dormitory schedule

- Application fee: 60,000 KRW (non-refundable)

- Tuition: 1,300,000 KRW

- Insurance: 150,000 KRW for a year

(All newly-admitted students must purchase their

insurance, and the cost is subject to change each year.)

CNU dormitory can accommodate around 5,000 students.

Rooms are furnished with a bed, desk, chair, closet and book

shelf. You need to bring or purchase your own beddings such as

a pillow and blankets. Personal bathing items are not provided.

Room type: a single, double-shared, triple-shared

For shared rooms, costs range from 450,000 KRW to 550,000

KRW for a semester. This does not include any meal plan.

Estimated fees may slightly increase every year.

Facilities: Gym, laundry room, cafeteria, stationer, convenience

store, dining hall, coffee shop and others.
