BACKGROUNDThe EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) promotes closer cooperation to tackle common challenges and was endorsed by the European Council in 2011.Whereas the EUSDR addresses a wide variety of Priority Areas (ranging from PA 1A “Mobility/Waterways” to PA 11 “Security”), Danube-INCO.NET focuses mainly on two of them and closely cooperates with PA 7 “Knowledge Society” and PA 8 “Competitiveness”. Within these two Priority Areas the project picks up challenges related to research and innovation cooperation between the different countries and regions.

ACTIVITIESThe project is based on the organisation of joint events including conferences, meetings, workshops and seminars aiming to exchange and disseminate good practices and the discussion of pressing issues in the Danube Region. Related background analysis, surveys and studies will inform about R&I stakeholders, projects and relevant results. Joint initiatives will support the integration of the non-EU Member countries into the European Research Area, the implementation of the Innovation Union and contribute to the EUSDR milestones. Results will be avail- able through the web portal and the regular newsletters.

OUR MISSIONDanube-INCO.NET is an FP7 funded coordination and support action in line with the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) in the field of research and innovation (R&I).By joining forces, 19 project partners under the coordi-nation of the Centre for Social Innovation (ZSI), seek to overcome obstacles hindering the social and economic development by advancing R&I. The project aims to ensure that events, publications and policy recommendations related to R&I cooperation in the Danube Region reach a broad audience interested and engaged in the future macro-regional development. The project duration is 36 months (2014—2016), during which different activities are scheduled open to experts and stakeholders.

Strengthening the intraregional cooperation

on innovative and inclusive societies

Monitoring R&I activities, analyzing

projects, co-patents, co-publications, policy

mix, smart specialization strategies, cooperation

barriers, etc.

Implementing concrete innovation support

measures such as Danube Technology Transfer

Centers (DTC)

Supporting the potential establishment of the

Danube Region Research and Innovation Fund

Scaling up joint funding mechanisms

for the Danube Region

Tackling societal challenges like

energy efficiency and renewable energy in

the bioeconomy
