■ The Conference, in its fi ft h editi on, is confi rmed as a crucial event in outlining the internati onal Food Contact Compliance scenario.
The sessions of the fi rst day will address diff erent issues that illustra-te the technical regulatory situati on for given materials and main con-sti tuents, such as adhesives and inks. Ample space will be dedicated to the views of the main associati ons and opinion leaders in terms of materials and objects intended for food contact, in order to frame the coming regulatory scenarios that are emerging in the context of EU legislati on. The speeches will also tackle analyti cal subjects, as well as a space de-dicated to NIAS and mineral oils, including a summary of the contents that emerged at the Munich Conference (28-29 March 2018).
The second day will be organized around a single session aimed at illustrati ng some legislati ve frameworks in force on the internati onal market, with parti cular regard to the USA, China, Japan and Mercosur. The regulatory approaches of the various States will also be compa-red to highlight the peculiariti es, diff erences and similariti es that can be identi fi ed.
The third day off ers a wide debate among the parti cipants of the Conference with a Round Table which will include talks on hot topics made by experts in the fi eld. It will also be an opportunity to address specifi c legislati ve issues such as recycled materials and the discipli-ne on Biocides, developed from the point of view of materials and objects intended for food contact.

■ Clinging to a rock face directly overhanging the lake, the Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso is certainly one of the most charming sights of Lago Maggiore.These “traballanti” (“unsteady”) rocks would appear to have given the name to the Hermitage, the full name of which is Santa Caterina del Sasso Ballaro (Santa Maria of the Dancing Rock), although the more probable etymology of the name is associa-ted with the nearby town of Ballarate. The Her-mitage has been the property of Varese Province since 1970. It was administered by a Dominican community from 1986 to 1996 but has now pas-sed to the Benedictine oblates.

ITALY■ BY CARFrom Sempione Pass Switzerland, we suggest to go forward when SS 33 beco-mes Highway A26 and exit at Baveno-Stresa. From San Bernardino-Bellinzona-Locarno Switzerland just follow the main road keeping the lake always on your left hand side until you reach Baveno (SS 34 until Verbania, then SS 33 direction Milan).If you come from Milan, get A8 in direction of the lakes (Laghi - Sesto Calende), go on to A26 direction Gravellona Toce. On highway A26 you may exit at Arona and then follow SS 33 up to Baveno for about 18 Km keeping the lake on scenic road on your right hand side. You may also go forward on A26 and exit at Carpu-gnino (forbidden to buses) where you’ll find a narrow road going down to Bave-no (5 Km) with a wonderful panoramic view. Otherwise you can continue going till the exit Baveno-Stresa where the road will immediately reach the lakeside: you’ll need to drive back to Baveno.Main driving distances and times: Firenze Km 390 (4 hours driving) • Milano Km 80 (50 min driving) • Roma Km 650 (7 hours driving) • Torino Km 135 (90 min driving) • Venezia Km 350 (4 hours driving) • Verbania Km 15 (10 min driving) • Locarno Switzerland Km 45 (50 min driving).
■ BY PLAINThe nearest airport is Milan Malpensa. From the airport you can reach Baveno by car, by bus, by train. The taxi service is available upon request at the moment of hotel booking. From the airport you can also take an autobus till the railway station of Gallarate and from there take a train till Baveno.Moreover there is a service Alibus, the new shuttle bus direct from the airport to the main towns of the Lake Maggiore, can be booked upon request. If you prefer renting a car, go from the airport to highway A8 and then follow the abo-ve directions in the “by car” section.
