IB Diploma Information NightSession Outcomes
• To gain a better understanding of the IB Diploma Program.
• To learn more about the IB philosophy and how it is embedded throughout DFHS.
• To understand what IB Courses are offered and how they are supported for all students.
• To understand the “logistics” of the program in preparation for grade 11.

DFHS was the first school in Westchester to be authorized in the IB DP (1998).
Celebrating our 20th year (#DFHSIB20)
Program has evolved and grown tremendously over that time.
DFMS/HS received IB MYP authorization in 2016.

The IB Middle Years Program (MYP)
• All students at DFHS are IB students.• DFHS was authorized as an MYP school in
2016.• The MYP Learning Standards are directly
aligned to the IB DP Learning Standards.• All students complete an MYP Personal
Project in grade 10.
The “Big Ideas” of the IB Diploma Program• Directly aligned to the IB Middle Years Program (MYP)
• 2‐Year Program beginning in grade 11.
• All students take both IB English and IB Math through participation in courses appropriate to student levels and readiness. Co‐taught classes support students as needed.
• Students may take additional IB courses or pursue the full IB Diploma.
• IB courses fall within 6 academic “Groups.” Standard Level (SL) & Higher Level (HL)

Entire staff has received IB training.
All students enrolled in at least two IB courses and most enroll in at least three.

Preparing for Grade 11
IB Diploma Program: “Nuts and Bolts” Students can pursue full Diploma OR take individual IB DP
courses. All students take IB English and IB Math.
Choosing Classes:• Consider strengths, interests, and goals• Teacher Recommendations/Open Enrollment • Consult with guidance counselor
• Counselors visit classes week of 2/25• Individual meetings start week of 3/4
We offer Standard level (SL) and Higher Level (HL) IB courses (parallel scheduling) (p. 10)
IB Diploma Program OverviewTo receive the full IB Diploma, students must:
Refer to pages 7‐8 of the IB Handbook

Earn a minimum of 24‐28 total points on exams
Complete Extended Essay, TOK, and CAS requirements

For students pursuing studies in social and natural sciences, business, psychology, design or those interested in how technology can support the applications of mathematics.
For students pursuing studies in pure mathematics, engineering, physical sciences, and economics.
For students pursuing careers in engineering, physical sciences, and economics, HL is recommended.
IB DP Science Current 10th graders
• 3 IB DP Science Options for students in grades 9‐10.
• Flexibility in grades 11 & 12. Include:•IB Chemistry SL (coming out of Physics 10R or 10H)•Chemistry(Regents or NR) (coming out of Physics 10R or 10 NR)•Chemistry (Regents or NR) (coming out of LE 10)•IB Biology SL or IB Physics SL (grade 12)•Nature of Science (grade 12)
