World-class university placements

EF International Academy has a 100% success rate in placing students at excellent universities, and nine out of ten of our students are accepted to their first choice university. Guiding students through the university application process is a crucial part of our mission.

Our students earn places at top universities worldwide

EF International Academy students have an excellent record of matriculating at the world’s most prestigious universities. 90% of our students were awarded placements at their first choice university and we ensure that every graduated student is enrolled in university to pursue their future academic degree. In the UK, our students have been admitted to each of the nation’s top 30 schools and 50% of our students are placed in the UK’s top 10 schools, including Oxford, Cambridge and LSE. In USA and elsewhere in the world, our students have gone on to study at top institutions, including Harvard, University of Pennsylvania and Zurich University.

Personal Placement Counselling

EF International Academy’s team of university admissions advisors is dedicated to guiding students through the entire university application process. Deciding which university to attend is one of the biggest decisions in a student’s life. Our aim is to make the process smooth,

understandable and successful. We work closely with each student to individually tailor an application strategy, providing guidance about exams, requirements, deadlines, essays, interviews and financial assistance. Getting into the right university involves hard work, a strong academic record and good test scores. Our university admissions advisors are there to help each student every step of the way.

Consistent success with IELTS, Cambridge, TOEFL and SAT exams

A high level of English proficiency is required for admission to the world’s best universities. A strong command of the English language is also necessary for achieving top A-level results and successfully completing the IB Diploma Programme. Our students consistently earn high scores on internationally recognised English exams, such as IELTS, TOEFL and a variety of Cambridge exams. In addition, we make sure our students are well prepared to succeed on university admissions exams, such as the SAT and SAT Subject Tests in the USA.

A lifetime of success

As well as guiding our students through the university admissions process and preparing them to succeed in higher education, we believe their long-term wellbeing, at university and beyond, is important. Each year we receive updates from alumni who credit EF International Academy with influencing and shaping their lives. We enjoy following the progress of our graduates and are pleased when the education they received with us helps them to succeed in whatever field or career they choose.

Pastoral Care – Prioritising Your WelfareThe welfare and progress of our students is our primary concern. EF International Academy does everything possible to make your stay with us comfortable.

Your personal tutor guides you

Each student is assigned a personal tutor whose role is to monitor students’ academic progress, university applications, and general welfare. Personal tutors meet with students twice a day and then have longer sessions with students to discuss test results, progress in class, and homework. They provide you with expert guidance on how to reach your full potential and achieve high grades.

Parental involvement

Parents are encouraged to maintain regular contact with their son or daughter’s personal tutor. We organise an “Open Day” to welcome parents and guardians to the campus in the spring. The headmaster or headmistress will meet personally with parents to discuss any issues and arrange meetings with a personal tutor or subject teacher when appropriate. We contact parents promptly if there is anything we feel we should discuss about their son or daughter’s welfare, conduct, progress, or achievement. Parents and guardians who are visiting a student’s host country are always welcome to visit our schools.

Regular progress reports

In the course of the academic year, parents can expect to see regular grade reports. Students will complete practice examination papers and will receive constructive feedback intended to improve their academic performance. Written reports from subject tutors, feedback from personal tutors, and year-end academic reports will be sent to all parents.

Thorough preparation from your own university placement advisor

EF International Academy has a wide network of partner universities who value the expert education our students receive. Each student is assigned a university placement advisor upon arrival. From the start of your programme you will receive regular briefings from your advisor so that you know exactly what is required of you in order to apply to university. Your university placement advisor provides detailed support through the entire process, from deciding where to apply to helping choose which offer to accept.

Career advice

Our career services directors work individually with each student to plan a career strategy. Students will receive full counselling and support to help them discuss with their parents which EF International Academy courses to select. As part of the programme of career advice, we use detailed questionnaires and individual mentoring to ensure the right career pathway is selected. As part of the tutorial programme, we will focus on the needs and aspirations of each individual, while encouraging their highest aims and expectations.

Additional support from your educational counsellor at home

For many students, this will be the first time of living abroad. We understand the anxieties and concerns that parents and students may have when embarking on this important educational step. We provide additional support through your EF educational counsellor, with whom you meet before departure and who is available to speak to you or your parents (in your native language) at any point during your time abroad. Our staff at EF International Academy work closely with your educational counsellor to make sure that your needs are met.

A personal tutor works with each student to set study goals, monitor progress, and provide individual support.

Access the best universities around the world with the help of your own university placement advisor.

Regular assessments and careful tracking reports show each student’s progress.

Comfortable andSecure CampusEF International Academy does everything possible to make your experience of living and studying abroad comfortable and smooth. Safe and tranquil, our campuses are ideal for fostering an unforgettable student experience.

Your home away from home

Recognising that an important aspect of your education happens outside of the classroom, we have carefully cultivated a close-knit community and invested in the most secure and modern campus facilities so that you can take advantage of your new home away from home.

Choose to live in a homestay

Our schools offer the option of living with a carefully selected family, most of whom have hosted students for many years. Students appreciate the welcoming and secure environment that living in a family home provides. Standard homestay accommodation is a shared room with another EF International Academy student, usually someone from a different nation, so you can practise your English outside of class. Breakfast and dinner are included on weekdays and all meals at weekends. Single rooms can be arranged for a small supplement.

Or, live in one of EF’s residences

You also have the option of living alongside people from all over the world in our student residences. These are on or near the campus and allow you to practise your language skills with classmates every day. There is an on-site residence director and teachers who act as house parents to ensure your comfort, as well as common rooms to relax in.

24-hour security

No matter which accommodation option you chose – homestay or boarding at an EF residence – you can be reassured that we provide round-the-clock security. Each school has an experienced accommodation team who interview and screen each host family and who select and hire residence directors who live on-site and are available 24 hours a day.

Modern campus facilities

Each EF International Academy campus boasts of the latest technology and amenities, including wireless Internet access, innovative language and science laboratories, comfortable student lounges, and convenient dining options. Set on beautifully landscaped grounds, every EF International Academy campus provides a tranquil environment where students can focus on learning.

Additional privileges and resources

Depending on which campus location you choose, you will have access to a wide range of library and sports facilities either on-campus or conveniently nearby.

A Vibrant Student Life

Among the most enduring aspects of your high school experience are the lifelong friendships you will make. Be part of an international community where English enables you to communicate, learn and make friends with people from dozens of different countries.

Campus Activities Office

Each week your school’s on-site EF activities coordinator arranges a full programme of sports, activities, and excursions. Participating in organised events is the best way to make new friends and get involved in campus life.

Open days at universities

During your course we will arrange for you to attend open days at nearby universities. This allows you to visit prospective universities, investigate degree courses you may wish to attend and meet university admissions officers. You will also gain an insight into what university life is like before you actually decide where to apply.

EF International Academy university fairs

Take advantage of EF International Academy fairs where you can meet admissions officers and speakers from various universities who give talks at our campuses. You will have the opportunity to ask questions, learn more about academic faculties and individual universities, and have an initial interview.

After-school student clubs

We offer a wide range of extracurricular activities at each school. Join the school’s debating society to improve your public speaking or contribute to the school newspaper to improve both your communication and writing skills. A variety of other activities are also available, depending on campus, such as chess, drama, art, or dance.

Sports teams and tournaments

Play in an international football tournament or join campus sports teams, which are available for just about every sport. Each campus is located near exceptional athletic facilities so that you can swim, play tennis, or work out at the gym. Our New York campus has substantial sports facilities and playing fields on site.

Fun excursions and trips

Take advantage of your time abroad to discover a new country and culture. Your EF activities coordinator plans a number of excursions and trips throughout your stay. You will have the chance to visit museums and historical sights or enjoy your host city’s attractions. At the weekend, explore your host country and try a new adventure sport like mountain biking or scuba diving. The highlight of your stay may even be a weekend trip to Paris or Boston, or to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, depending on which school you choose.

EF International Academy Alumni Association

Stay in touch! Throughout the year our local offices organise reunion parties, visits to schools, and informal meetings for former EF International Academy students. It is a great way to stay in contact with those who have shared the same experiences, to swap stories, and to meet new like-minded people.

We organise fun weekend excursions and day trips to let you explore your new country.

We can guarantee that you will have a busy schedule from early morning until the end of the day.

A full programme of extracurricular activities, sports and clubs are arranged on each campus.

Why study the IB Diploma Programme?

The IB Diploma Programme provides students with an excellent opportunity to acquire a highly prestigious education with worldwide recognition. Successful completion of the programme allows students access to the best universities around the world. Due to the broad range of subjects offered, students are stimulated and encouraged to acquire knowledge. Working as individuals and in groups, students discover and learn in interesting and innovative ways.

How does the curriculum work?

The curriculum contains six subject groups together with a core consisting of three separate parts (see diagram below).Students usually study one subject from each of the six different groups. Normally three subjects are studied at higher level and the remaining three are studied at standard level. All three core parts are compulsory and are central to the philosophy of the programme.

Course content

The IB Diploma Programme has broad-ranging academic content. Students must study literature, either in their own language or in English, humanities, mathematics, science, and the arts. All students write a 4000-word extended essay based on a topic of personal interest, and follow a theory of knowledge (TOK) course, which teaches them how to approach their studies with a critical eye. Students must also participate in community service activities, sports, and creative pursuits.

The objective of the course is to ensure students gain experience in different aspects of life and develop a broader outlook. Students receive a strong academic base coupled with cultural-based activities.

How is the diploma assessed?

At the end of the two-year programme, students are assessed internally and externally to measure individual performance against stated objectives for each subject. The grading system for the IB Diploma is based on a points score. The maximum score available is 45 points, with a pass mark from 24 points. Each subject is awarded up to seven points with an additional three points available for the extended essay and TOK combined. Furthermore, all students are required to complete the creativity, action, service (CAS) section of the programme.

A-Level Programme

Your passport to the best universities in the UK. Universities in the UK are recognised around the world for their excellence. The top-ranked UK universities require secondary students to sit for A-level examinations.

What are A-levels?

Students study for advanced level examinations, know as A-levels, for two years, usually between the ages of 16 to 18. Preparation for A-levels is often done at a specialised school, such as EF International Academy, known as a sixth form college. The first year of sixth form college is known as the lower sixth while the second year is called the upper sixth. The students take national exams at the end of the first year and again at the end of the second year. Performing well on these A-level examinations is critical because universities use A-level grades to decide which students to admit.

Why study A-levels?

Universities in the UK are regarded as some of the best in the world, and a standard way to get accepted to a UK university is to take A-level examinations. Students sit for A-level examinations in order to progress to the top-ranked universities in the UK. High A-level grades are also essential for competitive undergraduate studies such as medicine, law and engineering. Moreover, A-levels are widely recognised by universities around the world as a high achievement, so doing well on A-levels opens doors to limitless possibilities.

A-levels at EF International Academy

Performing well on A-levels requires a high level of English competence and knowledge of the British learning culture. A significant amount of independent study is required. Many international students have less experience with this British method of learning. EF International Academy’s teachers specialise in helping students perform well on A-levels. To assure students stay on track, they are regularly tested. Our tutors monitor students’ monthly test results, performance, homework and approach to studying.

Choosing A-levels

Students choose A-level subjects based on their academic skills and their future course of study at university. Typically, students take four academic subjects during their first year. Most take three subjects during their second year, though some students take more. For instance, a student might study biology, psychology, economics and sociology during the first year of A-levels and psychology, economics and sociology during the second year. Prospective medical students would choose A-level subjects such as biology, chemistry and statistics, whereas prospective lawyers might study

government and politics, philosophy and law. Choosing an appropriate combination of A-levels gives students the best chance of being admitted to top universities.

A-level grades

Typically, a student wishing to attend university prepares for A-level examinations in three or four different subjects. They are advised to choose subjects that will help their future career and university applications. Examinations are independently graded ranging from A (the highest) to E.

Examples of A-level subjects at EF International Academy

A-Level preparation courses in modern languages such as German, French, Spanish, Chinese, Italian, Russian and Arabic can also be offered at our schools.
