Internal RhymeInternal rhyme occurs within a line of poetry, as opposed to rhyme that occurs at the end of the line (end rhyme).Assignment Directions:•Write sentences and/or short poems that use internal rhyme.•Only use spelling words that being with vowels: a, e, i, o, u.•Underline each spelling word in your assignment.

ExamplesMy Spanish teacher is a preacher and she abbreviates her lectures.

Although the sentence above uses internal rhyme, this will not be acceptable for the

assignment. The internal rhyme must occur based on

the spelling word.ACCEPTABLE:My Spanish teacher told us to abbreviate and conjugate our verbs for homework.

AlliterationAlliteration is the repetition of consonant sounds at the beginnings of words.Assignment Directions:•Write sentences and/or short poems that use alliteration.•Only use spelling words that being with consonants.•Underline each spelling word in your assignment.

Tongue TwistersMany Tongue Twisters use alliteration:OPeter Piper picked a pail of pickled peppers.OSusie sold seashells by the sea shore.

Not all “Tongue Twisters” use alliteration:OHow much wood would a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood? He’d chuck as much as a wood chuck would chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood.

Simply repeating words in a sentence/tongue twister does not demonstrate good alliteration.

ExamplesMy mathematics teacher teaches teenagers the times tables.

Although the sentence above uses alliteration, this will not be acceptable for the

assignment. The alliteration must occur at least five

times based on the spelling word.

My mathematics teacher, Mr. Mamay, makes me memorize my multiplication table.

For the purpose of this assignment, internal rhyme will be used exclusively for words that begin with vowels, since words

with vowels cannot be used for alliteration.
