Every Thursday we go to the swimming pool very excited because we like it very much and enjoy it a lot.We go by bus and fasten our seat belts. Once we get there, we go to the changing rooms to put on our swimsuit. We are learning to take off and put our clothes on again before coming back to school.When all of us are ready to swim we get our towel and every group goes with their swimming teacher to start the class.One by one we learn how to swim using different kinds of materials. Also we swim with some partners and we have a lot of fun.Before finishing the class we play altogether splashing each other with water.

As you know, we have been asking you for things that have different smells. You have brought many things such as coffee, vanilla, cinnamon, lime, lemon, orange, mint, perfumes, different kinds of thyme, curry, cocoa…Once we had collected some of them, we worked in the assembly reviewing the five senses and emphasizing in the smell. They played and experienced, distinguishing and saying which ones they liked.We decided then for our SENSES CORNER to keep them somehow. The best idea was keeping them in tights so they can smell them whenever they want. If at home you have noticed that the kids can recognise different smells you will know the reason.

Play is essential in the I4 classrooms, and sensory play is an especially engaging activity for children. During sensory play, the students do what they do best; they use their senses. They touch, smell, listen, and make observations about materials in their environment. Sensory play not only encourages mathematical thinking, scientific exploration, and language development, but it also improves hand-eye coordination and fine motor control (two important writing skills). Additionally, sensory play opens the door to creativity, emotions, and artistic imagination. Children make their own creations, and they decide what is aesthetically pleasing to them. Children become artists through play, experimentation, and discovery.

SENSORY PLAY

Con los juegos estamos reforzando las nuevas destrezas y repasamos los temas que ya se han explicado. Reconocemos y analizamos situaciones a través del pensamiento matemático, formulando y solucionando nuestros propios problemas. Y lo que es muy importante: utilizamos estas soluciones para mejorar las estrategias de los juegos y hablar con los otros jugadores sobre sus estrategias.

On Thursday 20th November, the children of K5 had a field trip with a difference.The children attended a live production of Robin Hood at the Theatre Mira in Pozuelo.It is an important milestone which fosters their learning of drama and folklore; the musical was an exciting encounter.There was singing and joking as well as members of our class being invited up onto the stage.The audience participation was a great experience for the lucky ones who got to stand on a stage in front of a large audience.The play was enjoyed by everyone and now we know a lot more about British history and the legend of a true hero: Robin Hood. CROSS 2014El pasado jueves 20 de noviembre acudimos al primer cross de invierno organizado por el Ayuntamiento de Pozuelo de Alarcón. El cross tuvo lugar en el Parque Forestal de Húmera, situado a 15 minutos del colegio. Desde Internacional Aravaca, llevamos 2 categorías, participando ambas tanto en categoría masculina como en femenina. Corrían los cursos de 4º EPO en su segundo año de Benjamines y los de 5º EPO en su primer año de alevines. En la categoría de benjamines conseguimos 2 medallas, un sexto puesto de Jimena Perán y un primer puesto de Luis Avello. En cada categoría corrían unos 700 participantes repartidos en categorías femenina y masculina. Todo un éxito teniendo en cuenta que competíamos con colegios con bastantes más alumnos que nosotros. ¡¡Esperemos que nuestros alumnos sigan conquistando éxitos!!

ROMAN MOSAICA Roman mosaic is a mosaic made in the Roman Empire or by Roman artists outside of Roman frontiers. The Romans introduced exquisite mosaics in their domestic architecture and in the places of worship. They were often very complicated and detailed, often depicting still lives and occasionally historical or mythological scenes set in a wider geometric pattern.We were studying roman art and representing it.

Uno de los temas transversales que vemos en la asignatura de lengua es el de la comida sana, y qué mejor forma de hacerlo que viendo y comiendo comida sana!!! Ya hemos estado un poco hablando del tema, de la pirámide nutricional, de los alimentos que tienen grasas y azúcares, etc.... Así que hemos organizado nuestro propio ECODESAYUNO!! Todos estaban muy ilusionados. Cada uno trajo un alimento que sea sano para compartir y desayunar (cereales, galletas, frutas, tomate, zumos, yogures…). Además de tomar un gran desayuno, sano y nutritivo, aprovechamos para recordar las normas básicas en la mesa: sentarse bien, no apoyar los codos, limpiarnos con la servilleta antes de beber…Fue una actividad realmente amena y formativa. Aprender divirtiéndose, ¿Qué más se puede pedir?

In this first term 2EPO students are working on the human body, and the portrait concept. We focused on the study from natural examples and the masterpieces of important artists. One of these artists is called Modiglianni, an Italian painter who modernized the portrait theme. His work is characterized by a sense of melancholy, elongated proportions, and mask-like faces influenced by African Art. Students studied Modigliani’s life and style, and then, chose the pieces they wanted to copy. Through an easy technique of “folding papers” they made the base to paint their portraits using Modigliani’s proportions. Then, they investigated how to get his colours and how to translate his personal attitude to their work.

Los niños de 2º organizaron un concurso de masterchef para terminar nuestra unidad de lengua donde se trabajaba la alimentación. En expresión escrita hemos aprendido a escribir una receta y…… a cocinarla!!Los niños trajeron lo que cocinaron y se convirtieron en concursantes y jueces, explicando qué y cómo lo hicieron.Enhorabuena a los ganadores Alejandro Soriano, Mencía Bermejo, Nicolás Palacios y Néstor García.

Face to face once again left us amazed with their fantastic performance at the theatre today for the 3rd and 4th grade. The show was based on the infamous “Doctor Frankenstein” and the devilish monster he creates. The show, performed only in English, was understandable and entertaining for all, even for the adult teachers! Students were picked from the crowd to participate on stage and show off their skills. From the 3rd grade our very own Adrian (class 3b), Sergio Vazquez and Pablo Cristobal (class 3a) were selected and acted like the Oscar winning actors that they are! Amanda (class 4a) played the beautiful but distressed wife Jane, worried sick about her poor husband who was captured by Dr Frankenstein! We must commend the show organizers for their outstanding performance and our children for speaking English so well on stage in front of a large audience. You are so brave!

Este año vamos a empezar a trabajar nuestro lado más poético e imaginativo. Para ello tendremos como inspiración pinturas emblemáticas de los pintores más importantes de la historia. Nuestro primer poema ha sido inspirado por el cuadro “Los relojes blandos” de Salvador Dalí. A través de las figuras que vemos intentamos darle forma a través de nuestras palabras y nuestro mundo interior. Con estos autores aprenderemos, investigaremos, nos inspiraremos para contar historias, reflexionar sobre problemas y conflictos e incluso nos ayudarán a filosofar sobre la existencia del hombre, el tiempo, el amor y otros conceptos que tanto nos empiezan a inquietar. This month, the 5th and 6th grade classes took a field trip to see a wonderful theater called the Throne Raiders. It was filled with explorers, adventures and a trip around the world. It was not just a normal theater, but the actors called upon volunteers from our school to be part of the play. It was a morning filled with laughs and cheer.

6th of EPO students were asked to solve the problem of a new little girl, with little English idea and who wanted to start at school in December. They were asked to use several ipad resources: wordsalad, mindomo, keynote and piccollage; to explain all the English concepts they have been working up to now, using new technologies. They were divided into groups with different roles according to the CBL methodology. The results were simply amazing; commitment and responsibility were marvelous, organization, work and willingness. They showed great skills and maturity.

Algunos alumnos de 6º de Primaria han sido premiados con el beneficio de poder asistir a una Taller de Comunicación, en el Instituto de Comunicación Empresarial dirigido por Manuel Campo Vidal, tuvieron la suerte aprender de grandes profesionales como:

LAS EMOCIONES EN EL COLEYa hemos empezado nuestro proyecto de INTELIGENCIA EMOCIONAL RULER. Es un programa americano de educación emocional (www.therulerapproach.org) creado por el Dr. Marc Brackett y desarrollado por prestigiosos profesores de Yale University.Estamos convencidos de la importancia que tiene aprender a regular y gestionar emociones no sólo en nuestro día a día y en nuestras relaciones, sino también en el rendimiento y, por tanto, en el éxito o fracaso de cualquier proyecto personal o profesional que podamos emprender en nuestra vida.Todos los cursos de primaria han elaborado durante este mes su ACUERDO EMOCIONAL de clase. La primera actividad de este programa ha consistido en elaborar un "Acuerdo Emocional" que ha sido elaborado por los alumnos y el tutor/a en cada clase. Este acuerdo consiste en consensuar sentimientos que quieren experimentar cuando están en el colegio, en pensar qué comportamientos les hacen sentirse así y cuáles no, para prevenir posibles conflictos.El acuerdo está expuesto en cada clase en un cartel. Cada alumno lo guardará en el diario de valores y lo llevarán a casa para que lo firmen sus padres. Seguro que se sentirán más motivados si desde casa se le da la misma importancia que en el colegio.Esta semana también hemos empezado con la segunda fase del proyecto: MOOD METER ("Medidor Emocional") para ayudar a que los alumnos tengan una mayor conciencia y comprensión emocional, para que puedan expresar mejor sus sentimientos y adquieran una mayor riqueza en este tipo de vocabulario para que finalmente aprendan estrategias para regular sus emociones.

KARMA CUPDespués de 2 meses de competición y tras hacer el recuento de puntos, tenemos ya los finalistas que se disputarán los puestos de ganador durante el próximo mes de Diciembre. Por la parte de arriba del cuadro se disputarán el premio, las clases de 1ºA y 1ºB. Por un lado, la clase de 1ºA ganó con facilidad a la clase de 2ºB que acabó con tan solo 17 puntos. Por otro lado, la disputa entre 1ºB y 3ºA estuvo bastante igualada llevándose al final la victoria la clase de 1ºB.En la parte de abajo del cuadro competirán las clases de 6ºB y 4ºB por el trofeo ganador. La clase de 6ºB se hizo con la victoria tras ganar fácilmente a la clase de 6ºA. En el otro extremo del cuadro compitieron las clases de 4ºA y 4ºB, donde al final se hizo con el triunfo la clase de 4ºB.Enhorabuena a los finalistas y mucha suerte!

SPACE COMMUNICATION COMPLEXDuring the visit, we learnt about how astronauts live in the Space and the different missions that the complex controls. We also watched a presentation about the Curiosity, the mission sent to Mars. Our students showed a real talent for building water rockets and they threw 6 rockets that reached 20 meters high.

2ºESO PBL : THE POLLUTION SOLUTIONFirstly what is PBL?PBL is an instructional method that challenges students to "learn to learn," working cooperatively in groups to seek solutions to real world problems. The process can feel very different for teachers! Instead of starting with a standard and designing a lesson around it, teachers will start with a problem, concern, or challenge that is real and relevant to their students. The students will choose the method and media to attempt to solve the problem. Multiple standards are incorporated into the lesson and the solutions presented by the students show mastery of those standards.When a teacher facilitates a well-organised and meaningful problem-based lesson, students find the process relevant and rigorous. Often, teachers find that the quality of student work far exceeds expectations! The possibilities are limitless and the rewards infinite!That’s basically why we have started introducing PBL lessons in ESO. 21 st Century problems with 21st Century solutions found by 21st Century students working together.

OUR PROCESSFirst we brainstormed the good and bad of life in Madrid. The class decided that one of the biggest drawbacks to living in Madrid was the high level of pollution.So that was our initial problem – how can we reduce pollution levels in Madrid?The students formed teams in which everybody had a role to play and each member was given a specific task to work on. In groups the students researched the problem, its causes and possible solutions using the internet and telephoning groups such as Madrid Council, Greenpeace etc.They made an initial presentation, a Gallery Walk, to their classmates who provided positive feedback.Projects were then changed accordingly.The process will end with each group delivering their findings to their peers and hopefully to an outside audience.

Two pairs but just one winner...It was a normal Wednesday, the 12th, I saw all kids running at the playground, while me and the rest of the secondary courses where in class. I seated next to the window, good view, and good way of distracting, outside it seemed a typical day of school but, it wasn't it was a special 12th a special time that was coming, a special event... the final of the padel tournament, both pairs had worked very hard to get to the final, but not just the pairs, also Javier Alberti, Roberto Knop and Álvaro Molinari, did a perfect job organizing the tournament for us to enjoy. The time came, the time that people was waiting was there, the final that was starred by Brenda and Miriam in a team, winning the semifinals against me and Pablo, a hard match were both teams where nearly equal to the other but won the best, and Juan with Pablo which won against David and Alejandro in a very hard match to both pairs. The final seemed very stressful for the players they had to give the best of them, and they did, but obviously ones played better than the others and I could see that, everyone could and that what we showed them when Brenda and Miriam won, not just for the winners, for all the players had been eliminated by these two pairs and another round of applause for these three pupils which made about hundred people enjoy the moment.By: Iago Campo

ESO FIRST IA PADEL TOURNAMENT

El martes 25 de noviembre se celebró una sesión informativa sobre Bachillerato y los cambios de la LOMCE dirigida a las familias de los alumnos de 3º y 4º E.S.O. El objetivo es explicar cómo se van a organizar los cursos de Ed. Secundaria ante esta nueva legislación, presentar el proyecto de Bachillerato, desde un punto de vista académico y metodológico, y comentar las actuaciones que, desde el Departamento de Orientación, se van a llevar a cabo para ayudar a las familias en la elección de itinerarios de sus hijos. Dada la trascendencia de esta decisión es un compromiso del Colegio informar, a nuestros alumnos y familias, de las diferentes posibilidades que ofrecemos de bachillerato y sus áreas de conocimiento, así como de la estructura del nuevo modelo educativo. Fueron muchos los padres y madres que asistieron a las explicaciones de Dª. Marta Martínez, directora del colegio, acerca de las características específicas del bachillerato en el Colegio Internacional. Tras ello, tomamos un café que sirvió para intercambiar impresiones entre padres y profesores, buscando unificar criterios y medios para la buena marcha de los alumnos, de manera que cada casa sea una continuación del Colegio.

FUNDACIÓN GLORR

La FUNDACIÓN GLORR agradece la participación de las familias del colegio en toda la ropa que han donado. La ropa será seleccionada y clasificada por tallas para poder preparar las ayudas para los centros con familias con niñ@s con problemas de vestuario y calzado.Los alumnos de Secundaria, participando en el plan de voluntariado, han ayudado a cargar la furgoneta de dicha Fundación con ánimo y ganas de ayudar a los más necesitados.

Nuestro profe Martin Scheinin de 3ºEPO fue invitado el pasado 28 de octubre a la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid para dar una conferencia a los alumnos de magisterio sobre la inteligencia emocional en el aula y cómo trabajamos en el colegio nuestro proyecto RULER.

NOS FORMAMOS

Poder realizar este curso ha sido una experiencia única para recordar lo importante del arte en el proceso de aprender y fijar conceptos. Durante las sesiones, basadas en la pedagogía Waldorf he podido experimentar el desarrollo evolutivo del dibujo en los niños desde el garabato en infantil, hasta el dibujo geométrico en el segundo ciclo de primaria.Ha sido un fin de semana intenso y muy productivo en el que he tenido la oportunidad de modelar, dibujar, colorear y experimentar con técnicas diferentes que me servirán para ampliar y mejorar mis clases de arte en el colegio.
