China: Shanghai

United Family Hospital: United Family Healthcare is an international healthcare

organization in China, whose sole mission is providing healthcare services in a

uniquely warm and caring patient and family service environment. Interns at this

organization have worked with the corporate social responsibility director inside

the hospital. Other tasks include shadowing nurses and doctors, along with

learning about the different daily operations of a large Chinese-Western hospital.

Shanghai East International Medical Center: Interns can gain clinical laboratory

experience while you examine biopsies and evaluate blood work. Medical Interns closely shadow the hospital and

clinic staff.

The American Heart Association in China: The Chinese American Heart Association (CnAHA) was founded by a

group of U.S. cardiovascular physicians and scientists with Chinese origins. This internship will broaden interns

understanding of Western cardiovascular practices and aspects of ancestral Chinese medicine.

Costa Rica: San Jose


Línea Vital Emergencia Medical Clínica: Línea Vital, Costa Rica is a local health care

provider that works with both local and international volunteers. Tasks include

assisting in maintaining the cleanliness of the ambulances and the medical clinic,

doing reception and office work, and assisting the paramedics or medical

practitioners in the clinic or ambulance.

Centro Nutrición INVU Las Cañas: The center serves the nutrition needs of children from poor families in the area.

The meals they provide for these children are often the only food the children get during the day. Interns work

closely to maintain the nutrition, diets, and overall health of children given the limited resources.

Ecuador: Quito

Sample Placements: Visit our Website for more information Quito Clinics: Volunteers will assist with admitting patients, administering

basic first aid, shadowing doctors, assist in deliveries, et al. tasks in a busy

clinic, largely pending on intern’s level of previous experience and area of

expertise/needs of the institution. Depending on your interest, placements

have various focus areas, from general emergency medical to reproductive

health.

Hospital Pablo Arturo Suarez: Students interning at his hospital have worked within all levels within their

comfort zone from delivering babies to treating deep bone infection. This hospital has an excellent

reputation and supports a struggling community.

La Villaflora Therapy Center: This integrated therapy center calls on its dedicated, multidisciplinary team

to treat children and adults with its broad spectrum of services: from early stimulation for the mentally

disabled, physical rehabilitation, occupational therapy, programs for the learning challenged, and language

therapy. Interns would assist the physical and occupational therapists with patient treatments.

England: London


Cassel Hospital: Student can be placed with Cassel Hospital, a well-known mental

health therapeutic community based in London. Interns will be able to work with

families and children who have emotional and behavioral difficulties and work with

mothers and babies/toddlers. During their time on interns are involved in the

many staff operations, which include daily multidisciplinary team meetings, family

assessment meetings, nurse meetings, a weekly whole hospital staff seminar and

children's meetings.

Royal Free Hospital: The intern’s responsibilities include assisting occupational therapists in their work with

children with disabilities, working in schools and at the hospital, helping with individual and group therapy

programs, observing developmental assessments, helping to organize assessments, and administrative duties.

France: Paris


CEREP: Pharmacology interns may work at CEREP, a company involved in in vitro pharmacology, in vitro ADME-Tox and in vitro PK services. It provides solutions for faster and cost-effective drug discovery by identifying the most promising drug candidates at early stages as well as eliminating those compounds likely to fail in development.

H C H D : Students working at this Hospital will be involved in the health of the community, which includes emergency and first aid, social action, home support, training, and international action.

Centre Hospitalier D'Ophtalmologie Quinze-Vingts: Ophthalmology students at the Centre Hospitalier National

D'Opthalmologie may be involved in the treatment of cataracts, macular degeneration related to age, retina,

glaucoma, corneal cuts, venal occlusions, myopia, strabismus, ocular tumors and more.

Ireland: Dublin


Bon Secours Hospital: This hospital’s mission is to care for the sick, the dying and

their families within a Catholic Ethos. Students will work in a patient focused

environment, complementary to the Health Service Executive and major Voluntary

Hospitals.

The Diabetes Centre: The UCD Diabetes Research Centre consolidates multi-

disciplinary and collaborative expertise to accelerate progress towards discoveries

that will improve the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and associated diseases.

Past interns have helped with administrative and clinical actions as well as

independent research projects.

Rotunda Hospital: General obstetrics, gynecology and special services including infertility service, menopause

clinic, colonoscopy clinic and early pregnancy loss clinic. Students will work under general supervision and follow

established policies and procedures and provide an efficient and friendly clerical support service to both internal

and external customers.

Blue Clinic: Blue Clinic is a well-respected clinic in southwest Florence where students may intern in the fields of Physiotherapy, Osteopathy and Sport Medicine. Healing Photo Art - Foundation for Photo/Arts in Hospitals: The mission of the Foundation is to place large, framed photographs of nature and beautiful places from around the world in hospitals to give comfort and hope to patients and their families, visitors, and caregivers.

Giacosa: A cafe in Florence, which doubles as a nightclub after dark. This cafe specializes in hot drinks, fresh pastas, pastries and confections. Interns will work independently and under the supervision of the supervision of the head chef.

Mexico: Cuernavaca

Sample Placements: Visit our Website for more information CRIC Center for Infants Rehab: This is an independent health care center that specializes in treatment and education of infants as expressed by the needs of the community. The center is based upon an interdisciplinary model, and intervention efforts are closely coordinated to work toward goals agreed upon by family and staff. Rehabilitee Center for Adults: Student can have hands- on internships placements

at this physical therapy center in Cuernavaca. Student in this placement have a large amount of patient contact. Physical and Respitory Center: The Physical and Respitory Center is a clinic in Cuernavaca that specializes in respitory rehabilitation. Interns conduct basic examinations, schedule therapy sessions, out-patient procedures, and other day to day activities as required.

New Zealand: Wellington


Te Atawhai o Te Ao: This is an independent Kaupapa Maori research institute. The

research work is based in the areas of Maori health and wellbeing and the health of

the environment. Examples of the type of research being conducted include:

research on Maori health and wellbeing in areas related to Takataapui wellbeing,

sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, fertility and reproduction, kaumatua

wellbeing, tane Maori and depression, and grandparents raising their mokopuna.

Wellington Women's Health Collective: Interns are involved with the services that

are provided daily to allow women the ability to access a wide variety of articles on women's health, a library of

women's health books, cassette tapes and videos, information and referral on other health services, including the

Women's Comments File. The Collective also offers support, pregnancy testing (on a drop in basis), counseling for

women on low income, support group for women experiencing depression and provide condoms at no cost.

Spain: Barcelona


UBAE Fitness: Eurofitness Group and UBAE represent a model of enhancing sports and health. The company assists people of any age and with whatever fitness goals to succeed in healthful and physical habits to create an overall sense of wellbeing.

Clinical Neurológica ARCO-IRIS: The major responsibilities of this internship include integration

into a team of professionals, to collaborate with coworkers, assist with patients, and speak directly

with clients.

Hospital Vall D’Hebron: Past interns have worked on research projects regarding coping and

dealing with stress in cross-cultural situation. Interns have researched, interviewed, and analyzed

data on hospitalized patients
