FÁILTE ÓN gCATHAOIRLEACHA daoine uaisle agus a chairde go leir, cuirim failte roimh gach einneagus go mor mhor cuirim failte roimh na foirne ata ag imirt anseo inniu.
On behalf of Coiste Chondae Loch Garman, I would like to welcome youto Wexford Park for the Intermediate Hurling Final replay betweenOylegate and Half Way House Bunclody and the first round of the AIBLeinster Junior Football championship between St Fintans of Wexfordand Kilcavan of Laois.
With the county minor and senior finals on tomorrow a great effort by all the staff and volunteersis required to have the Park in pristine condition again. They will be working away late into thisevening to ensure all is well for teams and supporters alike tomorrow. I would like to thankeveryone for their efforts and support, my fellow officers, The C.C.C., match officials, gatemen, stewards, programme sellers, Gardai, event controller Michael Kinsella, Chief Steward DaveOrmonde, and our PRO Rory Murphy who produced this programme.
Diarmuid Devereux.
BUÍOCHAS ÓN EAGARTHÓIR Today we welcome the Intermediate hurling final replay and AIB LeinsterJunior Football championship first round game to Wexford Park.
Oylegate and HWH Bunclody are back for a second bite of the cherry afterthe dramatic finale to last weeks draw game. 4 points down as the clockticked 30 minutes, Oylegate tapped over a 65 to leave just a goalbetween the teams. Then on the final attack a blasting shot was savedby Bunclody goal keeper Art O”Neill only for Padge Doran to be hand to put the rebound into thenet for the equalizing score. We look forward to an equally exciting game today and with boththese teams just down from senior ranks this year they are both showing hunger to rejoin the elitedozen again.
I would like to thank all who assisted with the production of this programme : The Communicaions& Marketing Committee, Maria Nolan, John Kenny, Tom Boland, Mick Dwyer, Mick Nolan, PatDoran, PJ Howlin. Also the Club secretaries and PRO’s, C&R Print and our programme sellers notleast Gay Stafford who is there to greet us all with a smile every time we enter the Park.

2009 brought St Fintans, theJunior D football championshiptitle by the strong efforts of theclubs second team. Havingfought off HWH Bunclody inPatrick’s Park in the semi final1.07 to 0.09, St Fintans came upagainst St James in a highlycontested and entertaining finalin Killurin. At the finish, StFintans 2.8 St James 2.6.One would have to go backfurther, to 1999 to find the lastmajor championship won by StFintans. Marshalled by two bighearted club men, Billy Roweand Jim Rowe, they accountedfor Kilmore on a scoreline of 1.07to 1.06. Having gained promotion tointermediate ranks, they also went on alengthy Leinster club campaign that broughtthem to Leinster final - only to lose outagainst Clara of Offaly, 0.10 to 0.09.From this 1999 panel, Niall Murphy, AdrianMurphy, Jamie Codd and Enda Newport are inthe panel for 2012 team. Minor stars, DonalShanley, Jim Rossiter, Peter Goldsmith andJason Pettit give this 2012 panel a goodbalance. Players in 1999, but teammanagement today, Trevor Rankin(Bainisteoir), Jack Murphy and John Wright Jnrare ably assisted by another big clubman RichKelly. Working alongside the hurlingmanagement team lead by Eddie Maloney -players, management and backroom teams
have put in a huge amount of work and effort. With the 2012 title still up for grabs, followingthe drawn final just two weeks ago, St Fintanswill be aiming for the result to go their way inthe replay next week, and today, will definitelybe pulling out all the stops to progress in theLeinster Club championship.
The club secretary, on behalf of St FintansGAA Club would like to thank: Bolgers Hardware Ballycogley, EddieMaloney Plastering, Grass Master, John KellyCar Sales, Linda Rankin Massage TherapistR & W Kelly Ltd., Rotech, St Fintans LadiesFootball Club, Wright Insurance BrokersLtd., Ye Olde Coopers Inn and all those whoendlessly volunteer their time and effort forthe club.
Kilcavan GAA club was founded in 1946. Theclub has one of the smallest catchment areasin Laois, but has a proud tradition ofcompeting with and beating the best. Situatednear the Laois Offaly boarder the club hasstrived hard down the years to keep gaelicgames going in such a small rural townslandbut it has a tradition of producing talented
footballers down the years and continues todo so. Our last county title was won in 2004when the men in Maroon won the Laois JuniorA title. This year the club took the decision todrop back down from Intermediate Level afterlosing several players abroad, the clubreached the semi final of Junior A this yearwhere they were narrowly defeated.

Half-Way-House \ Bunclody is a proud dualcode club with most adult players playingboth hurling and football. Today we aregoing for an historic 6th IntermediateHurling title having last won in 2010. ColmKehoe and Micky Connors jnr each alreadyhave four Intermediate Hurling medals andtoday are hoping to win their fifth!
The construction industry has traditionallybeen a major source of employment for ourparish. H.W.H.\ Bunclody, as a result of therecent downturn, has been hit hard byemigration for the 2nd time in a generation. In the 1980s and early 90s we lost manyplayers who went to the U.K. and U.S.A. insearch of work. In recent years, many highlyqualified men and women have emigrated, some as far away as Australia and NewZealand as well as the U.S.A. and the U.K. tofind gainful employment. New technologiessuch as Twitter help many of these youngpeople to follow our Clubs progress. Twitterin particular allows us to give score by scoreupdates in real time from live matches,
ensuring our supporters abroad are kept upto date and indeed giving them a chance totweet messages of support and othercomments.
We are grateful to all our loyal supporters, both at home and abroad; you are the heartand soul of our Club. We thank Kelly Bros, who sponsor our Hurlers, and Kehoe’s Bar ourFootballers, for your generosity.
I would like to wish our mentors & playersthe best of luck in today’s game. They are avery dedicated group that deserve to go allthe way this year.
Half-Way-House \ Bunclody G.A.A. Clubremember especially today, a faithful andhard working member and friend MartinJordan, whose unexpected death occurredthree weeks ago. Ní bheidh a leithéid arísann.

Martin’s main interest was theG.A.A. – he was keenly interested in thefortunes of both his County team of Wexfordand his Club – Half-Way-House \ Bunclody. The amount of time, dedication, skills andexpertise he gave to the club as a player, mentor and committee member wasexceptional. He was an active member ofboth the underage and adult committees ofH.W.H. \ Bunclody for more than twenty years. He also served on a number of subcommittees such as St. Patrick’s Day Parade,Club House and the Club Lotto on which heserved as a member for 20 years and aschairman for 5. Martin had a hugely positive influence onthe development of our Club and on theyouth of the Parish which should neither beunderestimated nor forgotten. We owe him adebt which can never be repaid. The hugeGuard of Honour from H.W.H. \ BunclodyG.A.A. Club at both Martin’s removal andburial were testament to high esteem withwhich he is held in his native Parish.
