Description

The presentation provides an introduction to municipal asset management and how pavement management is key to maintaining a financially viable city, one that can continue to sell bonds for infrastructure projects. One tool in municipal asset management is pavement condition assessment surveys. These are commonly conducted for asphalt and concrete pavements. This presentation provides information on how to collect condition information for interlocking concrete pavement. More importantly, it shows how to use and compare it to conventional pavements. The challenge to cities is that they now have a tool to compare interlocking concrete pavement performance (ICP) to conventional pavements. Actual survey information from over 80 cities noted in the presentation demonstrates that ICPs can last at least 30 years before a major rehabilitation. This presentation introduces participants to the ICPI Distress Manual ICPI pavement condition index software.
