Lime Wash Atraditional way of painting theexterior walls, used in small cities. (Choona)
Cement Paints are economical, durable anddecorative paints made with a base of white Portlandcement. A quantity of aluminum steerage is also addedto act as water repellent. They have granules of calcium
carbonate CaCO3 having maximum sizes smaller than100 microns, a vitreous aggregate
PrimerThese may be oil or water based and areused to seal unpainted surfaces to prevent coveringcoats of paint soaking in. The appropriate type of
primer should be used for the surface being painted -wood, metal, plaster or tiles. There are some 'allpurpose primers' available which are designed for twoor more of these surfaces. The first coat of paint canalso be used in stead of applying the primer. The primerdries up in about 5-6 hrs.

Distemper Distemper is an ancient type of paintmade of water, chalk and pigment, bound with either ananimal glue or the adhesive qualities of casein (a resinthat comes from solidified milk).
Luster paints is solvent based paint. Develops acharacteristic lustrous pattern when rolled. On drying itforms a hard tough film which is highly durable, washable and exhibits superior water repellency.
Enamel paintis paint that air dries to a hard,
usually glossy, finish, used for coating surfaces that areoutdoors or otherwise subject to hard wear orvariations in temperature
Cement based paints This is a type of waterpaint in which white or colored pigment &cement forms
the base. This paint is applied to exposed or plasteredbrick masonry & concrete work.
Oil paints This paint is used for almost all surfacessuch as wooden, masonry, metal, etc. It consist mainlytwo components viz. abase & a vehicle. They process allthe characteristics of good paint.

Sanding/Surface Preparation:Ensure that the surface is freefrom dust, grease, dirt.First Primer Coat:It is applied toprovide adhesion between thepaint film and the surface. Itsmoothens the surface, makes itless absorbent and increases thespreading capacity of the paint.
Different primers are available forwalls, wood, metals, etc.

Application of Putty: This is done to fillminor cracks and surface imperfections. But major cracks and dents must be firstrepaired with a cement-sand mix orPlaster of Paris. Drying time for putty is 5-6 hours. The Second Primer Coat: This is appliedto sandwich putty between two primer
coats, since painting directly on puttyleads to a patchy appearance. The Finish Coat: Generally 2-3 coats mustbe applied in the ratio of 1:1(water : paint)to get the desired finish and color. Each
coat must be completely dry before thenext one is applied. Drying times fordifferent paints vary due to theircomposition. For some of the paints, it isrecommended to sand down the first
coat before applying the second one.

Precautions
Stir and strain paints thoroughly before application. The paint should
also be thinned properly (as per instructions given on paint container)
to ensure adequate application viscosity.
Ensure that the painting area is well-ventilated and free from foreign
particles and dust.To guarantee a neat edge around window panes, protect the glass
with a paint-shield or apply masking tape before painting. Remove it
before the final coat is dry to avoid peeling a layer of paint. Always
allow the paint to overlap slightly on the glass to prevent moisture from
seeping into the joint between putty and glass. When spraying paint, mask other surfaces around the area with sheets of paper or plastic to
protect them.

Indoor plants are very beneficial in our homes and workplaces.
They purify and renew our stale indoor air by filtering outtoxins, pollutants and the carbon dioxide we exhale - replacing
them with life sustaining oxygen.
Improve the quality of the air to make it a more pleasant placeto live and work - where people feel better and perform better.
Not only decorative, but NASA scientists have found them to beuseful in absorbing potentially harmful gases and cleaning the airinside modern buildings. NASA research on indoor plants has
found that living plants are so efficient at absorbingcontaminants in the air that some will be launched into space aspart of the biological life support system aboard future orbitingspace stations.
Indoor plants act as filters for air pollutants - Air pollutants aregenerated by computer equipment, furniture, paint and airconditioning. The air pollutants are circulated in the air in youroffice.
Indoor Plants make the work environment livelier.
Indoor plants make every office look great and have beenshown to reduce illness and increase productivity.

Plant system is Natures filter. They are the greenest way of improving
indoor air quality. Following is the list of top 10 plants
Also called the Butterfly Palm. An uprighthouseplant that is somewhat vase shaped.Specimen plants can reach 10 to 12 foot in height.Prefers a humid area to avoid tip damage. Requirespruning. When selecting an Areca palm look forplants with larger caliber trunks at the base of theplant. Plants that have pencil thin stems tend totopple over and are quite difficult to maintain.
1. Areca Palm (Chrysalidocarpus lutescens)
Also called the Lady Palm, this durable palm species
adapts well to most interiors. The Rhapis are some ofthe easiest palms to grow, but each species has itsown particular environment and culturerequirements. The Lady Palm grows slowly, but cangrow to more than 14 in height with broad clumpsoften having a diameter as wide as their height.
2. Lady Palm (Rhapis excelsa)

Grows very well indoors, preferring semi-sunlighting. Avoid direct sunlight, especially insummer. Young plants may need to be supported
by a stake. The Ficus grows to 8 with a spread of5. Wear gloves when pruning, as the milky sapmay irritate the skin. Water thoroughly when inactive growth, then allow the soil to becomefairly dry before watering again. In winter keepslightly moist.
4. Rubber Plant (Ficus robusta)
Also called the reed palm, this palm prefersbright indirect light. New plants will lose of someinterior foliage as they acclimate to indoor
settings. This plant likes to stay uniformly moist, but does not like to be over-watered or to sit instanding water. Indoor palms may attract spidermites which can be controlled by spraying with asoapy solution.
3. Bamboo palm (Chamaedorea seifrizii)

The Dracaena grows to 10 with a spread of 3.
Easy to grow, these plants do best in bright
indirect sunlight coming from the east/west. They
can adapt to lower light levels if the watering is
reduced. Keep the soil evenly moist and mist
frequently with warm water. Remove any dead
leaves. Leaf tips will go brown if the plant is under
watered but this browning may be trimmed.
5. Dracaena Janet Craig (Dracaena
deremensis)
One of the most durable of all house plants.Philodendrons prefer medium intensity light butwill tolerate low light. Direct sun will burn theleaves and stunt plant growth. This plant is
available in climbing and non-climbing varieties. When grown indoors, they need to be mistedregularly and the leaves kept free of dust. Soilshould be evenly moist, but allowed to drybetween watering.
6. Philodendron (Philodendron sp.)

A hardy, drought-tolerant and long-lived plant,
the Dwarf Date Palm needs a bright spot which is
free of drafts. It grows slowly, reaching heights of8-10. The Dwarf Date Palm should not be placed
near childrens play areas because it has sharp
needle-like spines arranged near the base of the
leaf stem. These can easily penetrate skin and
even protective clothing.
7. Dwarf Date Palm (Phoenix roebelenii)
The Ficus Alii grows easily indoors, and resistsinsects. It prefers a humid environment and low to
medium light when grown indoors. The Ficus Aliiishould not be placed near heating or airconditioning vents, or near drafts because thiscould cause leaf loss. Soil should be kept moist butallowed to dry between watering.
8. Ficus Alii (Ficus macleilandii Alii)

The Boston fern grows to 4 in height with a
spread up to 5. It has feathery ferns which are
best displayed as a hanging plant. It prefers bright
indirect sunlight. Keep the soil barely moist andmist frequently with warm water. This plant is
prone to spider mites and whitefly which can be
controlled using a soapy water spray. Inspect new
plants for bugs before bringing them home.
9. Boston Fern (Nephrolepis exaltata
Bostoniensis)
The Peace Lily is a compact plant which grows to
a height of 3 with a 2 spread. This hardy plant
tolerates neglect. It prefers indirect sunlight and
high humidity, but needs to be placed out of
drafts. For best results, the Peace Lily should be
thoroughly watered, then allowed to go
moderately dry between waterings. The leaves
should be misted frequently with warm water.
