This course is geared towards the solution of a specific design problem which will be more com-prehensive and complex in nature than the work done in Design m. It will be based upon the learn-ings gained in Design lIT, but the exercise will take the learnings further to a level to understand fully and design according to the needs of a specific client. Re-search on the specific problem is a must as prerequisite. In this studio, the design will include de-velopment of a specific concept/theme/idea, solution of a specific program, improve graphic com-munication skills, correct use of anthropometric data, and under-standing the climatic as well as social context.

The students will be required to design a specific design pro-ject fully equipped with interior design. As needed, there will be lectures on various topics. Meas-ures will be taken to make the studio interactive. There will be a number of as-signments and homework on the design problem the durations of which will depend on the scope of the assignments. Group work may be assigned for research, etc.

This course has been put together to help students build confi-dence in their free-hand drawing abilities. It introduces students to drawing as a means ofvisual com-munication developing freehand drawing skills for interior design applications is the focus ofthe program.A professional designer has the ability to listen to the client, to capture what he imagines and to anticipate his needs and aspira-tions. His main role is to translate the clients’ goals, needs, and aspirations into concrete de-sign concepts, that in turn can be transformed into livable and meaningful settings and products. Each ofthese ideas are decoded on paper and, when needed, in 3-D model form.

Throughout this term, Students will gain the ability to dissect forms and spaces in numerous ways, thereby allowing them to appreciate an interior architec-ture in terms of formal elements scale, shape and proportion..As for the chosen medium, students utilize fast-paced freehand draw-ing techniques to record sequen-tial experiences ofmoving through architectural spaces. By construct-ing conventional architectural drawings, such as plans, eleva-tions, and perspectives, students will enrich their perception ofthe designer’s design process, and will enhance one’s visually abili-ties using a pencil, felt tip pens.

Boutique hotels are described as personalized, customized, unique, and individual. Boutique hotel will be chosen as the selected type of activity and the selected type of settings. The suggested site is in Al-Khobar City. A soft copy of the drawings will be submitted to you. You will think partic ularly of designing a boutique hotel that add new character and style to the hotel district.outique hotels are often indi-vidual and focused on offering their services in a comfortable, intimate, and welcoming setting, so they are very unlikely to be found amongst the homogeneity

of large hotel, “some hotel guests look for s great diversity of prod-ucts and decide to visit a differentproperty each time they returnto an area. THEY MAY BE SATIS-FIEDWITH A HOTEL, BUT THEIR DESIRE FOR SOMETHING NEW, SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY REDUCES THEIR LOYALITY TO A GIVEN HOTEL: Nevertheless, trav-elers nowadays expect more than simply comfort and convenience. An increasing number oftravelers prefer to be “surprised” -positive-ly, needless to say. When planning trips, they seek properties that are noticeably different in look and feel from branded hotels.

In conclusion, the main aim ofboutique hotels is to offer their clients a unique experience through the pursuit of a unique environment, extraordinary fea-tures and personalized service. Nowadays, clients are willing to pay morefor the extraordi-naryfeeling offered by boutique hotels.

Project 01One Line Chair Design: “Nature Inspired”Learning Design Through Nature

Based on the Theory of Form- stu-dent was introduced to the classi-fications of furniture design based on the principles of form. Now she must learn to visually appre-ciate furniture that is designed as one continuous line in both its form and functional context. Student has to display her under-standing of theoretical knowledge with creative ability by designing this first simple project.

Project 02Theme Lobby Furniture DesignDesign Based Creative Problem Solving.

The character and function of a lobby space often influence a visi-tor’s first impression upon enter-ing a building. The lobby space type includes foyers, entries to halls, and information exchange areas at or near the entrance to a building. Key design concerns for this space type include balancing these considerations: • Function• Circulation• Visibility• Clarity• AestheticsStudents are given lobby plans and studied these considerations for suggesting furniture arrange-ments as well as designing two furniture pieces, according to an interior design theme that suits the proposed type of project.

Project Name: Design of the College of Design Courtyard

The aim of the proposed pro-ject is to give more value to the courtyard of the College of Design by designing it as a small garden. By this project, students will acquire a structured approach to designing space. They will learn to manipulate simple shapes into coherent patterns and use this approach as a tool for designing in three dimensions. They will be encouraged to exploit art as a basis for expanding their own repertoire of responses to design assignments. They will also ana-lyze different planting styles used by leading designers.

Project Description:The given project is about land-scaping the college of Design courtyard. The students have to consider the e nvironment of the court, its function, the culture of the users and their needs in addi-tion to the major art movements and the different landscaping styles used by leading designers.

The design studio offer a constructivist learning environment with a level of intensity and complexity that matches with the senior students. The students adopt an inclusive strategy to interpret the users’ expected readings of their indoor and outdoor settings into a set of appropriate design considerations that accords with the cultural and social environmental attributes of these setting and engenders positive users’ experiences.

This strategy enables the creation of an information processing system, which is easily applied at different stages of the design, so that learners engage and manage systemically multiple levels of quantitative and qualitative data that presents constraints or requirements in terms of the design process.

This design studio is a sequel of the “Thesis Project Design” course studied in the previous semester. The final project con-stitutes a specific design problem selected and researched individu-ally by the senior student. Each of them has chosen a selected type of activity and related types of settings and interventions (i.e., rehabilitation projects or conver-sion projects).

Our main objective is to enable students to take the processes and techniques they have learned during the first term (Design IX) into a higher and more profes-sional level by using them as a medium to elaborate creative and innovative designs that reveal the level of your skills and knowledge acquired during your undergradu-ate studies.
