For the industrial data acquisition and controlling ADDI-DATA hasdeveloped the ADDIALOG family including 7 analog PC boards forthe CompactPCI bus which are used for process control, measu-rement and monitoring as well as for multi-channel data acquisition.Different types of conversion (programmable timer, scan orexternal trigger signal) can support an automatical acquisitionand make sure that the PC processor capacity is not fully utilized. Voltage signals and current inputs are measured most accuratelyup to a resolution of 16-bit. By means of a sequence scan list, the user can determine whichanalog inputs can be scanned in which order.

Gain and input features (measuring rate, single ended/differential,unipolar/bipolar) can be programmed individually for eachchannel. Combined with the scan list, they allow the optimumsettings of each channel according to the measurementrequirements. All outputs are protected against short circuits and fitted with EMIfilters. Each of the outputs has a separate ground channel.For the processing of digital 24 V signals, additional isolated digitalI/O channels are available via a separate connector.

PC-based communication applications

In the automation industry many different tasks have to be perfor-med with devices featuring serial interfaces designed accordingto the RS232, RS422 and RS485 standards or the 20-mA current loop:microprocessor-controlled devices have to be occasionallyparameterized, data has to be cyclically acquired from measuringdevices and sensors and so on.

For these tasks barcode scanners, magnetic card readers, varioustypes of sensors, counter and speedometer modules, displays,CNC machines, robots, SPC systems and much more are needed.

With its ADDICOM board CPCI-7500, ADDI-DATA has developed anelectrically isolated serial communication board for the CompactPCIbus with 1 up to 4 ports.

Features like the high data throughput, plug-and-play capabilityand interrupt sharing have made the PCI bus the standard solutionfor rough industrial applications.

Free configuration of the operating mode

In order to flexibly adapt the hardware to the diverse requirementscoming up in industrial environments, ADDI-DATA has developed aconcept with MX modules. The base board is filled with 4 emptymodule slots, which can be populated according to the user´sinstructions with modules designed for RS232, RS422, RS485 or 20-mAcurrent loop (TTY) interfaces.

Due to the modular set-up each port can be freely configured. Inthis way the hardware can be adapted optimally to the changingconditions in industrial environments.

Apart from such a high degree of flexibility ADDI-DATA hasreached another goal: safety for your application.

Industry standard communication

All MX modules are electrically isolated up to 1 kV to make theminterference-proof. In addition, the modules are protected againstESD, burst, and, in the case of the RS485 mode, short circuits.

Highlights & features

As a standard, data is transferred at rates of up to 115 kBaud,optionally of up to 1 Mbaud. 128-byte FIFO buffers for eachchannel make sure that even at high transfer rates no data is lost.Due to the common interrupt function there is never a lack ofinterrupt lines, even with many interfaces installed.

Operation made easy

The board is delivered with software which enables the user to putit into operation, parameterize it and carry out tests quickly andeasily. The 32-bit program for Windows NT 4.0/95/98 automaticallyrecognizes which module is fitted into which slot and displays theoccupied resources.

With the included standard drivers the interfaces can be accessed asusual COM ports by any kind of software – even under Windows NT.Programming examples are supplied for Delphi, Visual Basic andVisual C++ .

The right hardware for your CompactPCI system!

The function is not determined by the hardware of the board, butby the user, who decides how the board is to operate in a determi-ned operation place.

The board is “activated” by the user’s hand. Its function can be pro-grammed, i.e. determined by the user and therefore adapted tomodified conditions at any time.The CPCI-1710 covers a wide range of applications for which for-mely many different boards were necessary.The functions can be freely combined and adapted to new appli-cations.

Software

The configuration program SET1710 delivered with the board inclu-des standard applications such as absolute value encoder (SSI: Synchronous Serial Interface), incremental encoders, periodduration measurement or frequency measurement. Functions tailo-red to the user’s needs can also be implemented.The board is delivered with drivers for Windows NT/98/95 as well aswith programming examples in C, C++, Visual Basic and Delphi.

Positioning PC-board

Axis control for 4 servo or stepper motorsThe board CPCI-8001 was developped in order to come up withthe growing requirements in axis control and positioning. With thisintelligent and flexible board, many control tasks from simple tocomplicated can be realised.The CPCI-8001 for the PCI bus is designed for the control of up to 8servo or stepper motor axes and uses a CompactPCI-based CPU.

Optical isolated board

The baord is fitted with 4 stepper/direction output channels (16-bitD/A channels). They are isolated from the digital current supply andare used for the control of commercially available power amplifiersconnected as speed controlling devices or current regulators.

Each channel is assigned an input channel used for the connec-tion of all common incremental or SSI encoders for referenceswitch.Digital PID filters with forward compensation and optional Notch fil-ters or Langham controllers are also involved in the axis control.

Applications

The "open" controlling concept of the CPCI-8001 is intended in thefirst place for manufacturers of special-purpose machines andusers which need a flexible integretation as well as a CNC solution.
