WHAT IS NHS?
National Honor Society is a national organization
based on service, leadership, scholarship, and
character. It is a great way to become more involved
in your school and community, and colleges love to
see it on applications.
WHO CAN JOIN?
Students become eligible to join NHS after the fall
semester of their sophomore year. Additionally,
students must have attended KHS for at least one
semester.
HOW DO I JOIN?
Go to the NHS page of the KHS website. (Found
under “Activities.” Find the “Interested in joining
NHS?” tab and print out the Activity Packet. Fill this
out and turn it in at the beginning of next semester!
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
The requirements are listed on the activities
packet, and can be found Appendix A of the National
Honor Society Appendices.
The Activity Packet also explains everything that is
necessary to join.

4+5+3+5≠20 4+7+4+5≠25You need more than the minimum listed in each category to
reach the overall minimum!
HOW CAN I EARN SERVICE HOURS?
Be involved! Join clubs and organizations, and help out your
community.
Church groups or volunteer groups are great places to earn
hours.
The Houston Food Bank is a great place to volunteer.

HOW DO I EARN LEADERSHIP POINTS?
Come to our leadership seminar!• November 18th from 3:30 to 5:30 in the LGI.
Be an officer in clubs/organizations.
HOSA’s leadership conference is another popular
leadership point opportunity.

HOW DO I EARN CHARACTER POINTS?
Character points are calculated based on teacher
and principal evaluations and a student's conduct
record. Teachers, staff members, and principals are
asked to evaluate a student's character in the areas
of attitude, integrity, and behavior. Additionally,
students applying for NHS cannot have more than
one Thursday/Saturday class, nor can they have a
documented cheating incident.

WHAT ACTIVITIES COUNT FOR MY ACTIVITY PACKET?
Any activity completed from the summer preceding
the student's ninth grade year and on may be
counted towards the Activity Packet. However, hours
and events from middle school will not count.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T GET IN?
You can apply again! We will send a letter that tells
you which areas you need to improve in, and, unless
you are a senior now, you can apply again next year.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO GET IN?
An induction ceremony will be held on Tuesday,
April 5th, at 6:30 PM.
If you’d like to run for an officer position, an
informational meeting on that will be held on April
14th.
First mandatory meeting will be April 28th after
school in the auditorium. Elections will take place at
this time.
