The Millenniums-old City

Suzhou is the only city in the world that has not changed its site since its founding 2,500 years ago, and even to this day, it has kept its original form of double chess lines of streets running in parallel with canals. 9 of its classical gardens and the native Kunqu Opera have been listed as World Cultural Heritage. The number of its cultural relics, 15 under state protection and 419 under provincial protection, is next only to that of Beijing and Xi’an. Among them, the scenic areas of Panmen Gate, the Tiger Hill, the Maple Bridge, and 7-li Shantang Canal have become most popular sites of tourist attraction of the ancient city.

The Classical Gardens

Grounded on the tradition of Wu Culture, the classical gardens of Suzhou have a special appeal to visitors. Up to now, 9 of the classical gardens have been registered by UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage. As early as the Spring and Autumn Period, there appeared a royal garden, “the resort palace of Wu”, its remnant site still being kept on Lingyan Hill. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, when the art of classical gardens reached its zenith, there were 280 gardens in the city. Suzhou has been acknowledged worldwide as “a city of garden”.

The Ancient Towns of Water Country

The ancient towns in the suburban water country of Suzhou are vibrant spots of great appeal like the old city itself. Among the things of tourist interest are the waterways, bridges, and traditional houses with white walls and dark roof-tiles in the towns of Luzhi, Tongli, and Zhouzhuang, the picturesque scenes of Lake Tai and hills, and historical relics in the East Hill and the West Hill, the gardens of distinct features in Mudu, Shaxi, Qiandeng, and Jinxi, and their rich collections folk cultural relics, etc.

Jinji Lake

• Jinji Lake, which is on the must-go tourist destination in this city along with the exquisite gardens and centuries-old ancient towns. While the old town impresses visitors with the past glories, Jinji Lake reveals to them the modernity of the city on the road of constant development. Application is being processed for Jinji Lake to become Grade 4A national scenic area and the next goal.

Both locals and visitors like to step out to enjoy the moonlight by the water, to go to the bars along Ligongdi, to have a cup of drink at Rainbow Walk, to look up to the world‘s longest sky-screen at Times Square, or to take a cruiser to the Peach Blossom.

Suzhou Ferris Wheel Park

• As a land-mark project, Suzhou Ferris Wheel is the most eye-catching facility in Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP). It is in the new amusement park, which is one part of Jinji Lake Area. Looking at the giant wheel located on the east bank of Jinji Lake, visitors are always impressed, and excited, about taking a trip on the wheel. In addition, there are many other amusement facilities around the park, such as the 28-seater 4D cinema, a roller coaster with a track in the shape of butterfly, and more. Hours of fun can be had here, for both the young and the young-at-heart!


Suzhou Science & Culture Arts Centre

• People seek quality in food, in fashion, in philosophy and in art. Suzhou Science & Culture Arts Centre (SSCAC) assembles all these facets to create a utopian life in one area.
