An Interview with the Ministry Placement Team Chair : How is the new plan better than the old? First, it doesn’t require filling every position in the church at the same time. We can take our time to work on every open position, determining who has the best qualities of experience and giftedness for each position. Secondly, the team reviews each new member as they come to our church and helps them decide where they can be used most effectively. And thirdly, the new plan uses Spiritual Gifts for finding just the right person for each ministry rather than just filling offices. Concerning Spiritual Gifts, how is the survey collection going? Right now, about 150 members have completed it. That’s about a third of the church. I love the way leadership has made it possible for children and youth to be active in the process. It will be a great resource to the team when everyone has weighed in. The Ministries Placement Team has been operating now for three months. What has been accomplished up to this point? : Ever since the plan was approved in June, 2012, the committee has been organizing. Right away, we saw the need for good job descriptions to be created for every ministry in the church. We are about 90% done with writing these. In addition, we have already started filling some job openings and have helped improve the design of several ministries, such as the Baptismal Assistance Teams. Has the team experienced any hardships so far? Well, we are still developing the best way to operate and get accurate reports to us of new members as they arrive and the spiritual giftedness of our membership. In addition, it takes time for the congregation to get the new process as part of their DNA. Annual Easter Basket Project

History of the EasterBasket project by Joan Ulloth

The Easter basket project began with a fewchaplains and nurses who saw a way tobrighten the lives of the•dozen or so•childrenhospitalized at the Kettering BehavioralMedicine facility about 12 years ago. One ofthose nurses also taught•Kettering Collegenursing students. When the students•learnedof this situation, they saw•it as a worthyservice project which they enthusiasticallyembraced and expanded to include severalbattered women's shelters.

•So for the past 10 years, nursing students atKettering College, members of the KetteringSeventh-day Adventist church, the KetteringKlowns, and• workers from pastoralservices•at Kettering Health Network havecollaborated to supply Easter baskets to kids, and personal hygiene kits for adult womenand men.

Donations include•supplies, many servicehours to complete this project, and a PODto store the supplies as they are donated.

A typical year will include 250 Easter basketsspread among• different service agenciesincluding: the House of Bread, Erma'sHouse, Artemis House, Day Break Shelter,Kettering Behavioral Health, and the YWCA.

Also included will be general supplies for aparty at the shelter, and personal hygienepacks for the mothers of the children(usually 35-50 per year).

In 2012, 35 hygiene kits for the men at theGateway Homeless shelter were added to theproject.

Supplies are collected at the college, theKettering church, and pastoral serviceoffices. The assembly is completed at theKettering church in the Fellowship Hall.Delivery requires a semi-trailor and is madeby volunteers. The community agencies arevery grateful for all the support that has beenprovided for their clients over the years.

In these tight economic times, even morepeople are using the agencies and the needshave increased. All donations of time andsupplies are appreciated.
