The Intercity train is the next generation of intercity rail travel, and Great Western Railway will be the first train company to operate them. FirstGroup have purchased 29 Class 802 trains which will operate in either 5, 9 or 10 car formation, depending on passenger demand. The nine carriage train will have 647 seats, 24% more than the equivalent existing trains. In order for passengers to enjoy the benefits of these trains as soon as possible, they are being built at Hitachi’s plant in Italy, with more than 30 British companies supplying parts one of which, Tiflex Limited, is based in Liskeard.
The benefits of these trains include:• more seats, tables and legroom; improved air
conditioning and window blinds throughout• extra room for luggage and bikes• bigger and better toilets• improved passenger information and Wi-Fi
throughout all trains• better access and security• faster and more reliable journeys• new food and drink options; served from modern
high-capacity kitchens
