Automatic optimization for every lens

Manual setting of focal length Stable viewfinder image

Confidently use all of your favorite E-mount and A-mount lenses, knowing the 7 II will analyze information from the lens to optimize depiction perfor-mance and 5-axis image stabilization for the particular lens you mount. When using E-mount lenses with opti-cal stabilization (OSS)*, the 7 II com-bines the best of in-lens and in-camera image stabilization to compensate for camera shake on five axes.

When you mount a lens that cannot correctly transfer data to the camera for analysis, simply input the focal length of the lens to enable camera shake compensation. You can even set up focal length input as a menu screen item or custom button for the ultimate in setup ease.

You can monitor the stabilizing effects of camera shake compensation in the view-finder or LCD screen while shooting still images by pressing the shutter button halfway or magnifying the image, and while shooting movies by entering movie mode. Even when using a telephoto or macro lens, you can fine-tune framing and focusing with stress-free stability.

The remarkable new 5-axis image stabilization system dramatically expands your range of expression by compensating for five types of camera shake during handheld shooting of still images and mov-ies. So you can confidently zoom in faraway subjects, snap detailed

close-ups and capture night scenes with minimal camera shake blur. Since camera shake compensation is equivalent to using a 4.5-step* faster shutter speed, you can also take advantage of a wider range of shutter speeds. All this, within super compact dimensions!

16-bit image processing and 14-bit RAW output help preserve maximum detail and produce images of the highest quality with rich tonal gradations. The 14-bit RAW (Sony ARW) format ensures optimal quality for later image adjustment (via Image Data Converter or other software).

Detail reproduction technology depicts details more faithfully with a more natural sense of dimension, while diffraction-reducing technology suppresses the effects of diffraction to faithfully reproduce fine details even when shooting at small aperture settings.

Area-specific noise reduction selectively divides the im-age into areas based on patterns (such as edges, textures and flat areas like blue skies), then applies the most ap-propriate noise reduction for each area to markedly re-duce noise and achieve a new level of clarity.

For extremely high image quality and minimal noise, record movies in the high-bit-rate XAVC S format, which was developed based on the professional XAVC 4K/HD format. It enables Full HD (1920 x 1080) image recording at 50Mbps (60p/50p, 30p/25p, 24p)* and employs linear PCM sound for high-quality sound recording.

The 7 II packs powerful moviemaking capabilities in ex-tremely compact dimensions. By taking full advantage of the 35mm full-frame sensor, BIONZ X image processing engine, audio production features and flexible lens inter-changeability, you can create movies of breathtaking visual and sound quality with exquisite background blur, remark-ably clear details, and the sensitivity to bring dark scenes to vibrant life. Features like Picture Profile, P/A/S/M modes and recording at frame rates such as 60p/50p* and 24p fur-ther expand your creative options. Moreover, an audio level display, rec level control with 32-step precision, and optional XLR Adaptor Kit meet professional audio recording needs.

Fine-tune the look of movies before shoot-ing by adjusting grada-tion, color adjustment and detail. Adjusted parameters can be saved with other set-tings as a profile, and up to 7 profiles can be stored for later recall.

An HDMI terminal makes it easy to transfer Full HD movie signals in real-time to an external monitor for accurate, large-screen viewing and listening. This feature supports uncompressed movie recording on external recording equipment and lets you output uncompressed movies with the shooting info display function off.

This proprietary Sony gamma set-ting, featured in professional cam-corders, creates a 1,300% wider dynamic range for smooth expres-sion of gradation with reduced whi-teout and blackout. Through color grading in post-production, you can make the most of the low-noise im-age and super-rich detail to achieve various types of image expression.

This function provides a “Record Run” setting that only advances the time code while recording, a “Free Run” setting that advances the time code whether record-ing or not, a drop frame method and a non-drop frame method. The 7 II can also output an embedded time code when the clean HDMI output setting is in use.

Sony is the world’s No. 1 manufacturer of image sensors for digital cameras and video recorders (based on Sony research from April 2013 to March 2014 that shows Sony has a 50% market share).

The refinement professionals demand

Meticulously crafted controls Easy button customization

Controls are refined for intuitive op-eration and immediate adjustment of parameters while viewing scenes through the viewfinder. In particular, the front and rear dials have been thoroughly refined and positioned with overall handling in mind to enable easier, more efficient turn-ing. It’s a level of refinement that surpasses even the renowned oper-ability of other 7 series models.

Button customization empowers you to shoot just the way you like, with frequently used functions as-signed to the customizable buttons of your choice. You can easily assign any of 56 functions*1 to any of 10 buttons*2 to enjoy speedier, more intuitive operation and maximum convenience.

*1 Some functions can only be assigned to certain buttons.*2 10 buttons including focus hold button on lens.

Enhanced grip and shutter button

The grip is refined in shape and height to support a more secure grasp of the camera even when a large lens is mounted. This also con-tributes to more confident opera-tion of the shutter button and dials. Moreover, the shutter button has been reshaped and shifted forward to enable more natural shooting with less camera shake.

Robust lens mountRobust magnesium alloy body Anti-dust system and coatingDust and moisture resistance

The strength and rigidity of the body and lens mount have been enhanced to provide an especially solid foundation for mounting large, heavy lenses such as super tele-photo lenses and those preferred for movie shooting.

The remarkably compact and lightweight body is solidly built to withstand the rigors of shooting in the field. It’s the ideal blend of light weight, solid reliability and steady handling, thanks to a top cover, front cover and internal structure constructed of rigid magnesium alloy.

Enjoy carefree shooting in tough en-vironments, thanks to comprehensive dust and moisture resistance mea-sures that help prevent water and dust from entering the body. These mea-sures include sealing around the but-tons and dials, as well as a protective double-layered structure that tightly interlocks panels and components.

To keep your photos blemish free, a special anti-static coating on the surface of the optical filter suppress-es the attachment of both dry and moist dust particles when changing lenses. An anti-dust mechanism also vibrates at high speed when you select Cleaning Mode to remove any particles adhering to the filter.

You can clearly magnify the image to simplify manual fine-tuning of the focus whether shooting still im-ages or movies. The Peaking func-tion can also be activated to colorize the most sharply focused areas of your image for quick confirmation.

Auto HDR composites the best details from three exposures to expand the dynamic range of your images from darkest shadows to brightest highlights and capture all the tonal gradations seen by your naked eye.

This mode composites four shots to significantly suppress noise and raise sensitivity, letting you clearly capture dark scenes without a tripod or flash. Camera shake blur is also lowered while contrast and detail are raised.

In difficult lighting, DRO corrects your images to achieve smoother, more natural gradations with more detail in the highlights and shad-ows. You can use it during con-tinuous shooting and when photo-graphing moving subjects.
