THE METAL-OXIDE COATING IN LOW-E WINDOWS PREVENTS ANY POSSIBILITY OF CAPACITIVE SENSING
In 2012 imageSurge developed and filed patent for touch-sensing technology capable of operating through Low-E windows – it is currently the ONLY such solution on the market.

PRODUCT THAT USES “WINDOW FILM” ?
Standard digital signage LCD’s are designed for a maximum operating temperature of 40˚C (104°F). Heat build-up from sunlight on the surface of a window-mounted display is practically guaranteed to exceed this threshold, resulting in “isotropic breakdown” that appears as black burn spots.

THROUGH-WINDOW AUDIO
Advanced through-window audio technology that overcomes obstacles associated with conventional loudspeakers pertaining to sound propagation and environmental control.
15 years ago a product was introduced to the market aimed at enabling touch interactivity through retail storefront windows – a transparent film with thin metal grid that allowed CAPACITIVE sensing. While the film worked as intended through plain glass, it failed to overcome a critical technological barrier – the widespread use of double-pane energy efficient “low-E” windows.
Low-E (Low Thermal Emissivity) glass incorporates various metallic coatings to reflect heat – preventing it from escaping in cold weather and from penetrating in hot conditions. Over the past decade nearly all commercial construction has shifted to low-E windows and this trend is continuing to accelerate, in part driven by government energy efficiency regulations.
STANDARD DISPLAYS ARE UNREADABLE IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT
The brightness measure of standard digital signage displays is less than 700 NITS, making them unsuitable for outdoor-facing through-window applications. In daylight they are not just unreadable – it can be difficult to even distinguish if they are on.

imageSurge storefront displays employ a proprietary system of ultrabright LED backlighting that can deliver 3000 NITS with superb visibility even in direct sunlight.
imageSurge Storefront displays are equipped with special LCD panels capable of withstanding temperatures of up to 110˚C (230°F) without blackening – an absolute requirement for window display installations.
