Goals of the HCPSS
Homeless Education Assistance Program1. 100% of Pupil Personnel Workers will provide exemplary
case management services to students in temporary housing and their families
2. By June 2011, 90% of parents /guardians will participate meaningfully in their child’s education as measured by involvement in parent/teacher conferences or other conference with school staff.
3. By June 2011, 75% of students in temporary housing will receive grades of “C” or better in reading and in math.

Enrollment Procedures• Family comes to school to enroll
• Families without a deed or a lease are referred to the PPW
• The PPW meets with the family to determine if this is a homeless situation.
• The PPW completes the Student In Temporary Housing form (SITH) & gives parent(s) know your rights brochure
• Student(s) are enrolled in school• Transportation is arranged to school of
origin (if requested by parent)

Outreach• A needs assessment is conducted.
• Students are given school supplies.
• Food gift cards provided.
• Clothing vouchers or referrals to thrift stores.
• Fees waived for field trips, uniforms, material fees, etc.

• Special Transportation for IEP meetings, school conferences, enrichment activities, and special events.

Food Services
• The SITH form is given to the Homeless Liaison
• The Student’s name is immediately added to the FARMS list and taken to Food Services.
• Food Services inputs the information into their data base making the student eligible for free meals.
