Key Profile: XDS-I• Cross-enterprise Document Sharing for Imaging• Imaging component of the Electronic Health Record in a
community, region, etc.• Effective means share imaging documents across sites• Without XDS-I, access to the radiology report across health
enterprises is difficult• Enables sharing among radiology and other care sites with
different clinical IT systems• Easy access: Care providers query and retrieve images and
reports with same mechanisms used for other medical documents

Gauteng Province: Project Details
• IHE XDS and related profiles deployed on consolidated server/router “rackable” solution: easy installation, minimal training
• Architecture allows information sharing with clinics having limited and intermittent bandwidth
• Six-month pilot went live in November 2008• Full project to be implemented in 3 years over 37
hospitals, 400+ clinics, approximately 17,000 beds, 9,245,087 residents
