Integrating management process in your workplace:
Management in nursing is the process of working through staff members to be able to provide
comprehensive care to patient or a client. This includes planning, organizing is my duty to plan,
organizing, directing and controlling. As a nurse manager it my task to plan, organize, direct and control
available financial, material and human resource in order to provide an effective, economic care to every
patient the purpose of which one should consider the use of management process in the nursing profession
in order to achieve scientifically-based holistic and individualized care for the patient. Another thing is to
achieve the opportunity to work collaboratively with the patient and also to achieve continuity of care.
In the integration of management process in the nursing profession, firstly, as nurse manager, I
need to develop a plan and establish its purpose. This must be clear, so as to avoid any confusion.
Information must be revised and the problem should be identified. Forecasting is also very important, for
it includes who the patients are-their customs, beliefs, public attitude and behaviour, the kind of care they
will receive, the number and kind of personnel, the resources, equipments and facilities that could be
needed. That is why objectives, the Mission vision and goals should be in order. Then, plans for
implementation will be submitted or presented to the admin/management for approval. With that
identification and arrangement of activities should be according to sequence. Dates for completing each
activity is wrote up. After that assignment of responsibilities are given patterns to distribute them in
needed areas. Management of time plans and budgeting also goes with this process.
Once the objectives have been established through planning, management concerns must then
turn to the development of an organization that is capable of carrying them out. This involves setting up
of the organizational structure and determines the staff needed through developing and maintaining
staffing. Responsibilities and authority is then given out, so as to avoid overlapping of functions and no
occurrence of gaps among personnel or with the institution. In a hospital setting, this is where staffing
came in. The careful selection of staff, training, motivating and retaining personnel in the organization.
This process would involve the scrutiny of the present personnel strength, anticipation of any manpower
needs, investigation of turnover of personnel and planning job requirements and job descriptions.
Scheduling or showing the planned working days and shifts of the nursing personnel is of relevance in
this area so that adequate patient care is assured, a desirable distribution of off-duties is also achieved.
Then follows directing, in which the issuance of orders, assignments and instructions permits the
subordinates to understand what is expected of him/her, and the guidance of overseeing the members so
that they can contribute effectively and efficiently to the attainment of the organizational objectives. This
is also where giving orders, making supervision, leading, motivating and communicating with the
subordinates or other members of the institution comes in. Delegation of responsibility, authority and
accountability is highly established in this process. Supervision or the means of inspecting, guiding,
evaluating and seeing the improvement of work performance of the employees through criteria from
which the quality of work production and smart utilization of time is achieved. As nurse managers, we are
tasked to provide guidance and direction to workers to achieve goals and objectives of the institution or
the nursing unit. Proper coordination and communication helps unites the personnel and the services.

With this came the work of a nurse supervisor who coordinates work with the other departments, services
or units utilizing clearly the defined policies, standard operating procedures and guidelines through proper
channelling of communication.
The controlling process plays a very important role in identifying the opportunities for
improvement, comparing performance against set standards, providing information about how well
processes and the staffs are doing so that they can be motivated to perform better in the future. Evaluation
principles are being make used here. Like, evaluation of the staffs performance basing on their job
descriptions and roles and responsibilities. Evaluation of the hospitals performance is also being
observed here, through the use of the patient satisfaction forms. This is here one may know if the
institutions adequacies, whereas, all the sectors of the hospital had been performing their functions well
and have they been catering to the needs of the patient and abiding with the MVG of the institution.
The management process plays a great role in the establishment of an institution, knowledge of
this process assures nurses of the smooth functioning of their units in attaining the goal of quality care
through the sensible use of available human and material resources within a specified time.
