The Freeway SA-160 Stand Aid provides exceptional lifting abilities due to it’s two attachment points on the spreader bar. When using the hoist as a standing aid, the carer can choose either attachment point, to suit the height and the abilities of the person being

raised. This gives the ability to lift a wide range of people from 4ft – 6ft 5”. It can also give two lifting angles, one leaning back, the other “head over heels”, a more natural standing procedure for those with lower body strength.

CRITERIA - Provided for clients who find it difficult to get on/off their bed because the bed is too low. They are also provided for clients who require hoisting but there is not enough space under the bed to accommodate the hoist. They will raise single,

double and king size beds with 4, 6 or 8 castors.

ASSESSMENT NOTES (for all beds) Home visit and risk assessment should be carried out

Check that furniture to be raised is stable and in good condition Consider if a more suitable bed may be already available in home The height set should be from floor to crease at back of client’s knee in normal

footwear. Inform client that it is advisable not to move the bed once raisers have been

Beds

A range of beds that can be raised/lowered and have profiling capacity, i.e. an electrically operated backrest and knee bend capability.

Criteria Notes

There must be complex moving and handling issues which remain

after considering all other types of equipment. E.g. bed raisers, mattresses, elevators,

hoists etc. Beds will not be supplied to residential or Nursing Homes to address manual

handling issues-this is the responsibility of the individual care home. You may wish to advise them to redirect any queries to a rental

agency, if they do not wish to buy.

Occupational therapists may assess for beds for daily living activities when a rise and fall bed would assist with the promotion of independence.

Beds are to be delivered and installed in a downstairs room, with space already available and access to a power point.

If beds (special circumstances only) are to be delivered to an upstairs room,
