Improvingtheinsulationefficiencyofbuildings, whetherneworrefurbished, isamajorissueinthereductionofgreenhousegas emissions. Today, insulating your home should be anecological reflex action, beyond energy-saving concernsandmattersofcomfort.Indeed, theprotectionofourplanetrevolvesaroundtwomajor issues: thefightagainstclimatechangeandthereductionofour"fossil"resourceconsumption(oil,gas,minerals,etc.).
Reducing heating consumption by improving insulation isthereforeafirstecologicalaction.Choosinga"bio-sourced"insulation,which is efficientandnatural, made fromhempfibres, providesanadditional, specificresponsetoecologicalconcerns.
This is the gamblewearemakingwith theBiofib’rangeof"Eco-logical"insulationsystems!By controlling the entire production chain (growing hemp, defiberingandburling, packaginganddelivery to the site),Cavac Biomatériaux claims to be unique in combiningtechnicalefficiencywithsettinganecologicalexample:•A"hemp"cropthatisrenownedforitsecologicalvirtues.•A complete production chain: hemp and flax are grownbythefarmersinourcooperativeandprocessedinVendée(defiberingandburlingonthesamesite).
•Low embodied energy needs: observance of a true "shortcircuit"with cropsnear the industrial site, resulting in lesstransportationandaclearlypositivecarbonbalance!
•The quality of an industrial production that meets theexpectations of our partners and customers (quality,consistency,volume,traceability,prices,etc.).
Thesearea fewof thearguments thatback thepromiseofourBiofib’range:efficient, truly durable insulation!

Really ecological solution for floor levelling
Biofib’ pellets (Biofib’ chape) pellet-based insulation boards are made of fine particles of plant matter derived from the separation of hemp and flax fibres which are then compacted in a high-pressure process without binder. A natural insulator, Biofib’ pellets is specially recommended for underfloor renovation work and for levelling floors that are irregular or in poor condition.

Hemp: a noble productHemp is a material renowned for itsecologicalpropertiesandisoneofthetypesofinsulationwiththelowestCO2 footprint:
• It requires little water and no pesticidesasacrop.•It absorbs a large quantity of CO2
duringitsgrowthcycle.•It makes good use of poor-quality

crop rotation (biodiversity, soilregeneration)
•Compared to mineral wools,plant-based insulation requires very little energy to manufacture, whichhelpsreduce CO2 emissions.
•Biofib' insulation is the result of acompleteproductionprocess:
-from crop growing in the Vendéeregion(nearthemanufacturingsite)
-to the production of batts or rolls(fibre extraction and overlayingat the same site, meaning lesstransportation)
• Biofib' insulations have a very positive carbon balance, helping to achieve "double" energy savings and

Air-tightness & performance
The thermal and acoustic performance
of a building are closely interrelated
with the tightness of the insulated walls,
which depends on the Biofib’ control vapour
barrier, while allowing the materials to breathe
naturally.
Biofib' knife
The Biofib’ range of construction tapes is specially designed to cover all your needs when installing the Biofib’ control vapour barrier. Each tape is suited to a specific application: yellow tape for covering the strips, green tape for sticking the vapour barrier to all types of supports, brown "double-sided" tape for attaching Biofib’ control to the framework (timber or metal).
For quick and clean cutting of the batts and rolls of natural insulation products, use the Biofib’ knife (length 30 cm), which is supplied with its own sharpener. For working areas that require a large number of cuts, you can also use a disk knife equipped with a toothless disk (ø 115 to 230 mm).

The Biofib’ control vapour barrier is a technical film made up of a non-woven fabric and a polypropylene membrane. Impervious to air and water, it prevents seepage and therefore reduces the risks of condensation forming inside the insulation (temperature < dew-point). Although not completely sealed against the vapour barrier (pervious in both directions), Biofib’ control plays an important role in natural moisture control in your home. It provides the perfect complement for Biofib’ insulation products.

Why choose natural insulation products ? The active communication with the general public conducted by the ADEME highlights major issues relating to general energy savings, specifically in construction. In fact, the energy consumed in dwellings (residential and services) represents 43 % of total consumption, ahead of transport. Even more important than the collective efficiency of insulation is the choice of insulation.

Cavac Biomatériaux exclusive: a complete "Eco-logical" system
In terms of natural insulation, Cavac Biomatériaux clearly stands out from the competition, relying on a true complete production system "from the field to the construction site". In fact, as part of the Cavac farming cooperative group, it manages all the hemp cultivation stages performed by the farmers in its territory so as to ensure industrial-quality production of Biofib’ insulation systems (defibering of straw and burling, packaging and delivery to construction sites).
The Biofib’ range of insulation systems claims to haveexemplary behaviour in ecological termsnotonlydue totheefficiencyofitsthermalinsulationmaterial, whichnaturallyresultsinenergysavings, butalsoduetotherawmaterialsituses, which are renewable and plant-based ("carbon sinks")and its "shortcircuit"productionmode (less transportation),producingaclearly positive carbon balance.

Hygrometry and quality of your indoor environment Management of environmental hygrometry isveryimportantinhomes.• Overly dry air is not healthy for the skin, mucousmembranesandairways.
• Overly humid air is also unhealthy, as wellas affecting the useful life of your home(condensation, deterioration of finishes andinsulationefficiency).
Hygrometrydescribestheamountofhumidityintheambientair,inotherwords,theamountofwatervapourcontainedintheair,givenasa%(oringramsofwater/m3ofdryair).The colder the air, the less water it can contain in the form of vapour (risk ofcondensation).
Sd = µ x eThe resistance to water vapour diffusion of amaterial is given in metres and relates to thethickness of the equivalent air space. It canbe described by Sd or µd. The product of µ isobtained according to the thickness of thematerialinmetres.

The wall is faced with stone, brick, concrete blocks or poured concrete.
Insulation consists of lining the inner surface of the wall by applying batts (or rolls) between the vertical uprights that provide a support for the finishing facing).
Continuous insulation with a stone-lined facing is also possible.

Injection is used to insulate walls, partitions or intermediate floors. The walls to be insulated are made up of closed cavities that will keep the insulation in place. They are pierced at the top, in the centre of each cavity, to enable the injection pipe to pass through. Filling is performed from bottom to top while observing the density.Jetfib’ouate is packaged in 10 kg bags (40 bags per pallet): 2 pallets are required to insulate with approx. 180 mm thickness over 100 m2 (corresponding to a R>4).

The light building walls are made up mainly of a metal framework, covered with a facing (wood, gypsum, Fermacell, etc.) on either side. Distributive partitions (used for distributing the rooms within the same dwelling) are differentiated from separating partitions (for separating two dwellings). The difference between the two is found in the associated thermal and acoustic requirements.

Tip:
For optimum efficiency, in particular as regards
the acoustics of the partition, it is advisable:
• To add a resilient sole under the rails, on
the floor and the ceiling (reducing the
transmission of solid-borne noise – vibration)
• To place electrical cases (sockets or switches) in
staggered rows.
• To place a double facing on one of the sides
of the partition and to use Fermacell batts.
In the case of a single framework •PleaseconsultpointNb.6:Interior.
In the case of a double framework (dwelling separating partition)
