WHAT WERE THE MAIN INSTITUTIONS FOR EACH OF THE FILMS?Paranormal Activity was under the institution of 20th Century Fox.

Columbia Pictures were the institution who created The Amazing Spider-Man.

HOW MUCH MONEY WAS USED TO PRODUCE EACH FILM?$11,000 was put into the film Paranormal Activity, the film was a jittery film and not well made, but managed to make a huge profit, because of the popularity.

$779.9 million was put into the film The Amazing Spider-Man.

HOW MUCH MONEY WAS MADE FROM EACH OF THE FILMS?Although Paranormal Activity was such a low budget film they actually managed to make $193 million.

The Amazing Spider-Man was a high budget film and they made $752 million.

HOW WELL KNOWN ARE THE PRODUCTION COMPANIES FOR EACH FILM?The production company for Paranormal Activity is 20th Century Fox which is very well known and is in ‘The Big Six’ therefore it is now a very well known, good institution.

The production company for The Amazing Spider-Man was Columbia Pictures and this is quite well known, however, it is not in ‘The Big Six’ therefore it is not that big.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HIGH-BUDGET AND LOW-BUDGET FILM IN TERMS OF INSTITUTIONSUnusually the high-budget film has the less well known institution behind it, compared to the low-budget film, in which the institution is in the big six. This is unusual because usually the more well known the film company is, the more money the film will make.

I think the reason that Paranormal was a low-budget film could have been because seeing as the institution is a bigger company then it may not have needed as much money put into it because it was going to be popular either way because of the large film company.

SIMILARITIES BETWEEN THE HIGH-BUDGET FILM AND THE LOW-BUDGET FILM IN TERMS OF INSTITUTIONAlthough one film was low-budget and one was high-budget, both of the films are very popular and famous. These both also made a large profit from the film even though they both had a large difference in the amount that was put into them.

WHAT ARE THE GENRES OF FILMS THAT THE INSTITUTIONS USUALLY MAKE?20th Century Fox usually makes films which are under the genre of sci-fi or horror. This links with the film Paranormal Activity, this is because the genre of this film is also horror like the most popular genres produced. If I was interested in making a film under 20th Century Fox then I would choose to either do sci-fi or horror because these are the most successful films produced by them. I think that the audience of Paranormal Activity is to young adults or teenagers because that is the age of people that tend to commonly watch horror films.

Columbia Pictures mainly tend to make children's films or comedies, this genre does not link with the film of The Amazing Spider-man. However, although it was different to its usual genre types it was still extremely popular and made a huge amount of money. The audience which Columbia Pictures usually appeal to is children under 12 and young adults. This is because they tend to create a lot of children's cartoon films as well as some young adult comedies. This does not link with the genre of The Amazing Spider-man which is action, but the company still did a good job.

All of the films I have listed are very successful films and are well known, I think this is because both of the film companies are very well known and therefore people are interested to watch the films.

WHICH COMPANY OUTPERFORMS THE OTHER AND COULD BE SEEN AS MORE SUCCESSFUL? I think that 20th Century Fox outperforms Columbia Pictures. This is because it is in the Big Six and it is a lot more well known. I think this because, there was such a little amount of money which was put into Paranormal Activity, however, it was such a successful film, which made such a large profit. As well as this most of the films made by Columbia Pictures are not as well known as the films made by 20th Century Fox.
