Upgrade from V4R5M0 to V5R3M0 or later requires 2 steps using either V5R1M0 or V5R2M0 as an intermediate

Upgrade from V5R1M0 to V5R4M0 or later requires 2 steps using either V5R2M0 or V5R3M0 as an intermediate

If you need an intermediate release make sure you can get the CDs before your upgrade. Order it regardless !

• Occasionally, situations arise that require specific program temporary fixes (PTFs) before you can install a new release

– Before you can install V5R3, you must temporarily apply a PTF from the Software Agreement PTFs for V5R1 and V5R2

– SK3T-8163-00, CD-ROM to be able to accept online software agreements for V5R3 licensed programs.



1. Load the CD-ROM labeled Software Agreement PTFs for V5R1 and V5R2 in the optical device.

2. Type GO PTF and press Enter. 3. Select option 8 (Install program temporary fix

package) and press Enter. 4. Specify the following and press Enter: Device: OPT01

Automatic IPL: N PTF type: 1 Other options: Y the other install options appears.

5. For the apply Prompt, specify 2 ( apply Immediate ) and accept all other defaults.



• For V5R1, the server applies 5722999 PTF MF29250, 5722SS1 PTF SI06069, and the associated PTFs for the installed national languages for your current release

• For V5R2, the server applies PTFs 5722SS1 SI10284 and SI08995

If you have non-configured disk units you need to choose how they will be dealt with.

Parity operations are faster in DST than in SST



The above menu may also appears if you have non-configured DASD units.

You can ignore the warning message – this is normal during upgrades



Now you need to upgrade your licensed programs:

Option 1 will allow you to upgrade all licensed programs that are currently installed on the system.

The install of licensed programs begins as the system reads the files from the CDs.



As each licensed program is read into the system the display updates to tell you which programs are currently being installed



As the CDs are read the system will prompt for more. The messages go to the QSYSOPR message queue.

IBM only supports upgrades from 2 levels back… you must be at V5R2M0 in order to upgrade to V5R4M0

Upgrades from older releases will require a multi-step process using an intermediate release of V5R2 or V5R3



“Prepare for install” PTFs (SK3T-8163)

These PTFs are required for upgrades from V5R1*, V5R2 and V5R3 in order to accept software agreements for V5R4 licensed programs. CD is included with the order.

- V5R2 requires:- 5722999 – MF33218, MF36329 and MF36330- 5722SS1 – SI18930 (+ National language PTF)

- V5R3 requires:- 5722999 – MF33150, MF36276 and MF36280- 5722SS1 – SI14190 (+ National language PTF)

* V5R1 still requires upgrade to either V5R2 or V5R3 before proceeding with V5R4



Other items to remember:

Upgrading from V5R2M0 to V5R4M0 Licensed programs require acceptance of their software agreements before you install – Make sure you install the Prepare for install PTFs (SK3T-8163) before you begin

More object conversions WILL occur

Review Memo to Users for V5R3M0 for implications to software changes that apply to the skipped release

Cumulative PTF package is not included in software orders –Preorder before the upgrade



Other items to remember:

Console mode value and console takeover – Starting at V5R3 console mode matters! Make sure it is set before starting the upgrade

Additional primary languages can be ordered

Server firmware requires management considerations (HMC or service partition)
