1.0 General and Safety• Donotinstall,operateormaintainthisflowmeterwithoutreading,understandingandfollowingthefactory-suppliedinstructions.Otherwise,injuryordamagemayresult.
• Readtheseinstructionscarefullybeforebeginninginstallationandsavethemforfuturereference.• Observeallwarningsandinstructionsmarkedontheproduct.• Considerhandlingandliftinginstructionstoavoiddamage.• Iftheproductdoesnotoperatenormally,refertotheserviceinstructionsortoaqualifiedARADserviceengineer.• Therearenooperator-serviceablepartsinsidethisproduct.
2.0 Product Liability and Warranty
Arad’sstandardproducts(the“Products”)aresoldtoCustomerandarepurchasedbyCustomerunderthetermsofwarrantysetforthhereinbelow:
1.AradwarrantsthattheProductsshall,underconditionsofnormaluseandwhenproperlyinstalled,administered,appliedandmaintained,befreefromdefectsinmaterialandworkmanship(the“Warranty”),foraperiodof12monthsfollowingdeliverythereoftoCustomer(the“Warranty Period”).
2.Arad’ssoleobligationandliabilityundertheWarrantyshallbelimitedtothereplacement,therepairortherefundoftheoriginalpurchaseprice,atArad’ssolediscretion,ofanydefectiveProductswhichareprovennottoconformtotheProducts’specificationandwhicharereturnedtothefactoryorservicecenterdesignatedbyAradduringtheWarrantyPeriodbytheCustomeraftercompletingafailurereport.AllprovidedthatwrittennoticeofsuchdefectisgivenbytheCustomertoAradwithin21daysafterdiscoverythereof.FreightcosttosuchfactoryorservicecenterwillbepaidbytheCustomerandfreightcostfromsuchfactoryorservicecentertoCustomerwillbepaidbyArad.
3.AradwillnotberesponsibleforandwillhavenoobligationundertheWarrantytoanynon-conformityoftheProducts,caused,inwholeorinpart,asaresultofmisuse,abuse,tamperingwithormodificationofanyoftheProductsand/orbyaccidents,faultornegligence,improperadministration,applicationand/oruse,installation,service,repairand/ormaintenanceoftherelevantProducts,byactofvandalismorbyanycauseswhatsoever(includingbutnotlimitedtoenvironmentalconditions)thatareexternalthereto.
4.Theforegoingwarrantyisalimitedwarrantyandisexclusiveandinlieuofallotherwarranties,expressorimplied,including,butnotlimitedto,theimpliedwarrantiesofmerchantabilityandfitnessforaparticularpurposeandshallconstitutetheCustomer’ssoleandexclusiveremedywithrespectthereto.ReplacementorrepairinthemannerprovidedabovewillconstitutefulfillmentofallofArad’sobligationswithrespecttothequalityandperformanceoftheproducts.Nodealer,distributor,agentoremployeeofeitherAradorcustomerisauthorizedtomodifythesewarranties.SuchmodificationshallbenullandvoidandshallnotbindAradforanyandallpurposes.
5.Exceptandtotheextentprovidedunderthewarranty,innoeventshallAradbeliable,whetherincontract,tortorotherwise,foranydamages,whetherdirectorindirect,consequential,incidental,specialorpunitive,resultingfromanydefectintheproducts,including,withoutlimitation,lossofprofits,business,income,anticipatedsavings,goodwillorothercommercialloss,evenifAradhadbeenadvisedofthepossibilityofsuchdamages,excepttotheextentthatsuchliabilitymaynotlawfullybeexcluded.
Customershallbesolelyresponsiblefortheselection,use,efficiencyandsuitabilityoftheProducts.
3.0 Items Included With Order:• OneOCTAVEultrasonicflowmeter,sizeasindicatedonthepackagingbox,piecedtogetherintoacompletecompactsystem(flowtubepluselectronics).
• OneOUTPUTmodule,eitherdigitaloranalog(basedonthecustomer’sorder).

4.0 Supplied Documentation:• Condensedinstallationandusermanual.• Reportoffactorymetersettings.• Certificateofcalibrationdata.
5.0 Unpacking and Inspection• Thisproducthasbeenthoroughlyinspectedandtestedbeforeshipmentandisreadyforoperation.• Aftercarefullyunpackingthemeter,inspectforshippingdamagebeforeattemptingtoinstall.Ifanyindicationofmechanicaldamageisfound,immediatelycontacttheresponsibletransportationserviceandyourlocalARADLTD.representative.
6.0 System Description and Measurement Method • TheOCTAVE’smeasurementmethodisbasedonanultrasonic,transit-time,dual-beamsensorswhichdeterminesthelengthoftimeittakesanultrasonicsoundwavetotravelthedistancebetweenthetwosensorslocatedonthemeter’sbody.Thesensorsfunctionasboththesenderandthereceiver,eachonealternatingthesefunctionssothattheultrasonicwavetravelsbothwithandagainstthedirectionoftheflow.Sincetheultrasonicwavetravelssloweragainsttheflowthanwiththeflow,thetimedifferenceoftwowavestravelingwithandagainsttheflowleadstodeterminingthevelocityofthewater.
• TheOCTAVEultrasonicflowmeterisabattery-poweredprecisionflowmeterdesignedforlinear,bidirectionalflowmeasurementofwater.
• Flowmeasurementvaluescanbetransferredthroughthestandardcomminucation-digitaloranalogoutput.• TheOCTAVEcanbesetupforawiderangeofapplications.

1. ItisrecommendedthatthemeterwillNOTbeinstalledinthemiddleofthesystem,sothemeterwillnotsufferfromtheloadofalltheinstalledfixtures.
9.0 Polymeric Octave Installation – General InstructionsPleasefollowthegeneralinstructionsforwatermeters(CheckValve,upstream&downstreamandsystemflushingonnewinstallations).
Existingandnewinstallations:

4.Whenusingstandardtailpiece,pleaseuserubbergasketsonly(notfiberglass)!Afteraddingthegasketsthegapbetweentheendconnectionandthemetershouldnotexceed1mm.Pleaseunscrewtheendconnectioninordertokeeptherecommendeddistance.
• Please do not use force in order to close the gap.• Pleasedon’tdoanyweldingwhilethemeterisconnectedtothepipe.

5.Ifitisnotpossibletouseplasticconnectionsononesideofthemeter,pleaseconsidertheuseofour flexible couplings.ThesecouplingswereespeciallydevelopedforthepolymericOctavemeters.Youwillneedtousethiscouplingonlyononesideofthemeter-pleaseinstallthecouplingontheoutlet,ifpossible-asdescribedinthebelowpictures.
6.Pleasestarttotightentheendconnectionsbyhand.Finaltighteningwillbewithnomorethan100Nmtorque.

8.Incaseitisnotpossibletouseplasticendconnections(atleastononeside),pleasesupportthemeterasshowninthedrawingbelow.

• Forproperflowmeasurements,theOCTAVE’smeasuringtubeshouldbecompletelyfullatalltimes.Non-wettedsensorsshowlossofsignal.Thoughthiswillnotcausedamagetothemeter,itwill,however,notmeasureflowanddisplayzero.
• Flowdirection:TheOCTAVEisabidirectionalflowmeter.NotetheindicatingarrowontheOCTAVE’sdisplayforforwardandbackwardflows.
• Incaseofdirectsunlightexposure,itisrecommendedtokeepthelidclosed,thoughnodirectdamagewilloccurwiththelidopen.
• DonotexposetheOCTAVEtoexcessivevibration.Toavoidvibration,supportthepipelineonbothsideofthemeter
• Ambientworkingtemperature:-25to+55°C.
• Waterworkingtemperature:0.1to+50°C.
• Toavoidmeasuringerrorsduetoairintheflowtube,observethefollowingprecautions:• Sinceaircollectsatthehighestpointofthesystem,installationoftheflowmetershouldbeatthelowestpoint.• Alwaysinstallcontrolvalvesdownstreamofthemeterinordertoavoidcavitation.• everinstallthemeteronapumpsuctionsideinordertoavoidcavitation.
11.0 Counter Flanges• Refertothestandarddimensionaldrawingsforflangespacing,accommodatingforthethicknessofgaskets.• Installmeterinlinewiththepipeaxis.Theflangefacesmustbeparalleltoeachother.• Permissiblelengthdeviation:Lmax-Lmin0.5mm(0.02”).
