Foryoursafetyandtoensureproperperformanceoftheunit,itisveryimportanttoreadtheseinstructionscarefullybeforeinstallation.Failuretocomplywiththeinstructionscontainedhereincouldresultinpersonalinjuryorpropertydamage.Werecommendthatyoukeepthisbookletforfuturereference.Allunitsshouldbeinstalledbyalicensedelectrician.1. Electricalservicesupplymustbe120V60Hz.2. Wiresfromthehousepowersupplytotheunitshouldnotbesmallerthansize14AWG.3. Followalllocalsafetyandelectricalcodes,aswellasrequirementsforNEC(NationalElectricalCode)and

OSHA(OccupationalSafetyandHealthAct).4. Thisunitmustbeproperlygrounded.5. Thisunitisequippedwithabuilt-inthermalcut-offforsafetyandtoprolongthelifeofthemotor.6. Alwaysdisconnectthepowersupplypriortoservicingthefan,motororjunctionbox.7. Donotbendorkinkthepowerwires.8. Donotinstallwheretheairtemperaturewillexceed40◦C(104◦F).9. 18. Ductworkshouldbeinstalledinasstraightalineaspossible,withminimumbends.19. Ductworksizemustbeaminimumofthedischargeandshouldnotbereduced.20. Thefanisintendedtobemountedatleast7feet(2.1m)abovethefloor.

PLANNINGINSTALLATION

Wheninstallingtheventilationfaninanewconstructionsite,installthemainbodyofthefanandductworkduringtherough-inconstructionofthebuilding.Thegrilleshouldbeinstalledafterthefinishedceilingisinplace.Usethedimensionsprovidedinthismanualtodeterminetherequiredholesizefortheceiling.

Theductingfromthisfantotheoutsideofthebuildinghasastrongeffectontheairflow,noiseandenergy-useofthefan.Usetheshortest,straightestductroutingpossibleforbestperformanceandavoidinstallingthefanwithsmallerductsthanspecifiedinthismanual.Insulationaroundtheductscanreduceenergylossandinhibitmoldgrowth.Fansinstalledwithexistingductsmaynotachievetheirratedairflow.DonotinstalltheventilationfaninareaswheretheductworkwillrequireconfigurationsasshowninFig.1below.

Recommendedinstallationincludesinsulatingaroundductworkandthefanhousingtominimizeheatloss(seeFig.2above).Sealallgapsaroundthehousingwithcaulkorothersimilarmaterialtoinhibitairleakagetotheexteriorofthethermalenvelopeofthebuilding.Rigidsheetmetalductandtheshortestpathtotheoutsidewillminimizestaticpressurelossesandpromoteadequateairflow.

§ Checktheareaaboveinstallationlocationtobesurethat:a. Ductworkcanberunandthereissufficientareaforproperventilation;b. Wiringcanberuntotheplannedlocation(wiresfromthepowersupplytotheunitshouldnotbe

smallerthansize14AWG);c. Therewillbeaccesstoductworkandwiringforinspectionandfuturemaintenance;andd. Nowiringorotherobstructionswillinterferewithinstallation.

Forinstallationinexistingconstruction:§ Installingthefanhousinginanexistingbuildingrequiresaccess(atticorcrawlspace)intheplanned

installationlocationabovetheexistingductworkandwiring.§ Inspectexistingductworkandwiringbeforeproceedingwithinstallation.

Step1: Selectthelocationforyourfanintheceiling.Foroptimalperformance,planfortheshortestpossibleductwiththefewestelbows.

Whenpositioningfanhousingforinstallation,flangeofhousingmustbelevelwithbottomofjoist,ornolowerthanthefinishedceiling.

Step2: DirectJoist-Mount:Slidesuspensionbrackets(Part#5)intoslotsinthefanhousing.Usingwoodscrews(Part#3),securehousingflangetojoist,thensecuresuspensionbracketstojoistonotherside.Ifspacingbetweenjoistsisgreaterthan16”,useextensionbrackets(Part#6,seediagramright).

SuspensionBracket-Mount:Slidesuspensionbrackets(Part#5)intothefanhousing.Ifspacingbetweenjoistsisgreaterthan16”,useextensionbrackets(Part#6).Securebracketstojoistsonbothsidesusingwoodscrews(Part#3).



Steps3-7AllInstallations: Step3: Tosecurebracketstofanhousing,insertmachinescrews(Part#4).Tightenmachinescrewstopreventhousingvibrationwhilefanisinoperation.

Step4: Installa4-in.circularductandsecuretohousingwithfoilducttapeorclamp.

Step5: DisconnectthepowersupplybeforeproceedingwithStep5.Run120V60Hzhousewiring(withground)fromwallswitchestofanlocation.Removejunctionboxcoverand,usingwirenuts,connecthousewirestounitwires.RefertoWiringDiagramonpage4.

§ Greenwiresaregroundwires.Housegroundmaybegreenorbare.

§ Whitewiresareneutral.Theycarrypowerbacktotheservicepanel.

§ Blackwiresarehot.Theycarrypowerfromthepaneltothefan.

§ Red wire is night light hot wire. It carries power from the panel to the night light.

Step6: Finishceiling.Flangeofhousingmustbelevelwithbottomofjoist,ornolowerthanthefinishedceiling.Insertlightbulbs(Part#7andPart#8).

Step7: Toattachthegrille,pinchbothmountingspringsongrilleandinsertendsintoblackplasticreceiversinsidefanhousing.



CLEANINGTHEVENTILATIONFAN

Cleaningtheunitperiodicallyisadvisablesincedust,molds,grease,andotherdirtparticlescanaffecttheconductivityoftheairintheunit.

Cleantheunitasfollows:

1) Removetheplasticgrille.2) Washthecoverwithlukewarmwaterandusemilddetergentsuchasliquidsoap(avoidharshdetergentor

boilingwater).3) Drythegrillewithaclothorkitchentowel.4) Cleaninsideofunitwithvacuumcleaner(fanhousingshouldnotcomeintocontactwithharshchemicals

orliquids).5) Putthegrillebackinplace.



WARRANTY
