What you need to know before you begin
1) Knowthecorrectyear,make,andmodelofyourvehicle.
2) BesurethattheradioyouareinstallingiscompatiblewiththeAxxesssteeringwheelcontrol(ASWC-1)interface(refertotheaftermarketradioowner’smanual).
3) GototheAxxesswebsite(axxessinterfaces.com)andclickonthelinkentitled“ASWC-1VEHICLEINSTRUCTIONS”,whichislocatedontherightsideofthescreeninthemiddle.Onceyouputyourvehicleinformationin,clickthe“SUBMIT”button.Thiswilltakeyoutoanotherpage,whereyouwillthenclickonthelinkundertheword“DOCUMENTS”.Thiswillprovidethevehiclespecificinstructionsforyourvehicle.Printthisdocumentsoyouhaveitwithyouinthevehicleduringtheinstallasitisthebest,andmostrecent sourceofinformation.
Note: Even though we have done extensive research and testing (to verify that the steering wheel control wires we list are correct) it is still your responsibility to verify the steering wheel control wires with a multimeter. If you find a discrepancy please notify our Tech Department at 1-800-253-TECH. Please be in the vehicle when you call, with access to the interface and vehicle wiring.

OnceyouhavecollectedorprintedouttheinformationsheetonyourparticularvehiclefromtheAxxesswebsite(www.axxessinterface.com)you’rereadytoinstalltheASWC-1.
Installing the ASWC-1
1) ConnecttheBlackwireoftheASWC-1toground.Youmayusethesamegroundingpointastheaftermarketradio.
2) ConnecttheRedwireoftheASWC-1toa12-voltaccessorywire, onethatturns“On”and“Off”withtheignitionkey.
3) LocatethecorrectSWCwire(s)inthevehicle’sradioprimaryorsecondaryharnessasdescribedinthevehicleinformationsheetfoundontheAxxesswebsite.Connectthecorrectwirecolor(s)fromtheASWC-1tothesteeringwheelcontrolwire(s)inthevehicle.
Note: Metra recommends that the wire(s) are soldered for the best and most secure connection. T-Taps or scotch locks are not recommended due to the higher chance of an intermitted connection or change in resistive values.

4) IfyouareusinganEclipse,Kenwood,MetraOE,oranewerJVCradio,plugtheincludedfemale3.5mmconnectorwiththeBrownandBrown/Whitewiresintothemale3.5mmconnectoroftheASWC-1harness.
• For Kenwood and select JVC: ConnecttheSWCwire(normallyBlue/Yellow)totheBrownwireoftheASWC-1.IsolateandtapetheBrown/Whitewire,itwillnotbeused.
Note: Some newer Kenwood radios will auto detect as a JVC. If this is the case, you can use a 12k-ohm resistor (included) in line between the Blue/Yellow and Brown wire of the female 3.5mm jack during programming only. Or you can manually set the radio type which is in the radio programming section of this manual.
• For Eclipse:ConnecttheEclipseSWCwires(normallyBrown andBrown/Black)totheBrownandBrown/WhitewiresoftheASWC-1.BrowngoestoBrownandBrown/WhitegoestoBrown/Black.Sometimesthisisreversed,reversethewiresifneeded.
• For Metra OE: ConnecttheSWCKey1wire(Gray)totheBrown wireoftheASWC-1.
5) Forallotherradios,pluginthemale3.5mmconnectoroftheASWC-1intothebackoftheaftermarketradio,designatedforanexternalSWCcontrolinterface.Ifindoubtwherethe3.5mmconnectoroftheASWC-1goespleaserefertotheaftermarketradiomanual.Onceallconnectionshavebeenmade,plugintheaftermarketradioifnotdonealready.

TheASWC-1canbeprogrammedintwoways.(1)ItcandoitbyitselfthroughAutoDetectMode,or(2)itcanbemanuallyprogrammedinnon-datavehicles.ItisstronglyrecommendtostartwiththeAutoDetectModefirst.
Auto Detect Mode: OverviewTheASWC-1hastheabilitytoautodetectcertainvehiclesandtoknowwhataftermarketradioitisconnectedto.ThevehicleinfosheetfromtheAxxesswebsite(www.axxessinterface.com)willindicateifyourvehiclewilllikelybeautodetectedandwhataction,ifany,isrequiredbyyouforthisprocesstotakeplace.
FortheAutoDetectfeaturetoworkthereare3possibleactions,howeveronlyoneactionwillberequiredbyyoudependingonyourvehicle:
• Turntheignitiononandnootheractionisrequired.
• Turntheignitionon,pressandholdthe“VolumeUp”buttononthesteeringwheel.

• Turntheignitionon,pressandreleasethe“VolumeUp”buttonrepeatedlyonthesteeringwheel.
Asstatedbefore,onlyoneoftheseactionswillneedtobedonedependingonyourvehiclefortheAutoDetectfeaturetowork.PleaserefertothevehicleinfosheetprovidedontheAxxesswebsite.

5) AfteracoupleofsecondstheLEDshouldstopflashingandnotlightupfor2seconds.Atthispointdonotpushanybuttons.
6) Afterthe2secondstherewillbeaseriesof7Greenflashes,someshortandsomelong.
7) TheLEDwillpauseforanother2secondsthenflashRedupto11times(refertoASWC-1ledgend).
8) Thisistheendoftheautodetectionstage.IftheASWC-1detectedthevehicleandtheradiosuccessfullytheLEDwilllightupsolid.
9) ForvehicleswithOEBluetoothbuttonspleasepress“Hangup”or“Pickup”onyoursteeringwheelcontrolaftertheLEDontheASWC-1goessolid.IftheOEBluetoothbuttonsareabletobeused,theLEDwillgooutafter3seconds.YourOEBluetoothbuttonsarenowprogrammedtoyouraftermarketradiosBluetoothbuttons(aftermarketradiomusthaveBluetoothcapabilities).
Tip: If the LED does not light up solid refer to the troubleshooting section.
10)Makesurethesteeringwheelcontrolbuttonsfunctioncorrectlyinthevehicleandenjoy.

Auto Detect Mode
SoyoutriedtheautodetectfeatureandattheendtheLEDdidnotstaysolid“red”.Insteaditstartedflashing,meaningthattheASWC-1didnotdetectthevehicle.
Followthesestepstodeterminewhatmayhavehappened:
1) Verifythatyouhave12-voltaccessoryandagoodgroundtotheASWC-1.Sometimesthefactorygroundisnotsufficient,achassisgroundishighlyrecommended.IfyourvehiclehasaSWCreferencegroundwire,chassisgroundthataswell,alongwithyouraftermarketradio.
2) Validateusingthevehicleinformationsheet(Axxesswebsite)thatthecorrectsteeringwheelcontrolwire(s),inthevehicle,wereconnectedtothecorrectwire(s)totheASWC-1.
3) Confirmthatthe3.5mmconnectorisconnectedtoyourradiosecurelyandinthecorrectlocation.
4) Ifusingthefemale3.5mmconnectorinEclipse,Kenwood,selectJVC,orMetraOEradiosverifythattheradio’sSWCwireisconnectedtothecorrectwiretotheASWC-1.
Manual Programming Auto Detect Mode
IfyourvehicleisnotlistedforautodetectionbytheASWC-1ontheAxxesswebsite,www.axxessinterface.com,youcanmanuallyprogramanon-datavehiclebythefollowingsteps(haveASWC-1legendavailable).

Note: Not every radio will have all the possible SWC commands on the steering wheel. Aftermarket radios that do not have Bluetooth will not recognize the PTT (Push To Talk) or “On/Off Hook” commands; however those buttons can be manually programmed to do other commands in some cases. Please refer to the radio owner’s manual or wireless remote for specific commands that the radio will recognize.
1) Completeconnectionstothevehicleandtotheaftermarketradio,makesurethe3.5mmconnectorisconnected.
IfthisisthefirsttimetheASWC-1isbeinginstalledinavehicle:
2) Turntheignitionon;theLEDwillstartflashingrapidly.
3) After10secondstheASWC-1willgointotheLEDfeedbackmode.AftertheseriesofLEDflashestheLEDwillstayinaslowconstantflashstate.Gotostep4.

IftheASWC-1hasbeeninavehiclebefore:
2) Pressandholdtheresetbuttondownformorethen10seconds.
3) Afterthe10secondstheLEDwillbeginaslowconstantflash.
4) Atthispointpressandholdthe“VolumeUp”buttononthesteeringwheelfor7secondsuntiltheLEDgoessolidred.Nowreleasethe“VolumeUp”buttonandtheLEDgoes“Off”.“VolumeUp”hasnowbeenprogrammed.

5) Nowpressandholdthe“VolumeDown”buttonuntiltheLEDgoessolidred.ReleasethebuttonandtheLEDwillturn“Off”.The“VolumeDown”hasnowbeenprogrammed.
6) AtthispointgototheASWC-1LegendButtonAssignment(remapping/manualprogramming)section,page19,andcontinuewith“SeekUp/Next”button.
7) Youcanendthishalfoftheprogrammingin2ways:
(1) Afterthelastbuttononyoursteeringwheelhasbeenprogrammed(youdonothavetogothroughthewholelist)holddownthe“VolumeUp”buttonforatleast 10seconds.TheLEDwillgointoaslowconstantblinkmode.

(2) Afterthe18thbuttonisprogrammedorskippedtheLEDwillgobacktotheslowconstantblinkmode.
Note: If at any time an error is made hold down the reset button on the ASWC-1 for 10 or more seconds. This will restart the manual programming. Go back to Step 4 and start again.
8) Pressandholdthe“VolumeDown”buttonfor5secondstilltheLEDstartstoflashquickly.
9) Releasethe“VolumeDown”button.
10) After4secondsoftheLEDflashingquicklytheLEDwillgooutfor2seconds.

11) ThentheLEDwillflash,upto11times,dependingonwhatradiotheASWC-1thinksit’sconnectedto.
12) Makesurethenumberofflashesmatchwhatradioyouhaveinstalled.RefertotheChangingRadioTypesection,pages13-14.
13) IftheLEDflashesmatchtheradiothenholddownthe“VolumeDown”buttonuntiltheLEDgoessolidred.
14)Programmingforthevehicleandtheradioisnowcomplete.Testoutthesteeringwheelcontrolfunctionstomakesureitworkscorrectly.
Changing Radio Type
IftheLEDflashesdonotmatchtheradioyouhaveconnected,youmustmanuallyprogramtheASWC-1totellitwhatradioitisconnectedto.
1) Tomanuallyprogramtheaftermarketradio,pressandholdthe“VolumeDown”buttononthesteeringwheelcontroluntiltheLEDgoessolidred,thenrelease“VolumeDown”.
2) AtthispointEclipseisprogrammed.IfyouareusinganEclipseradiogotostep3.Ifyouareusingadifferentradiogotostep4.
3) Pressandhold“VolumeDown”for5seconds.TheLEDwillflashoncethengosolidredindicatingtheprogramminghasfinished.Goenjoyyourradio.
4) IfyouhaveadifferentradiothenEclipse,presstheVolumeUpbuttonagaintilltheLEDgoessolidred,thenrelease“VolumeUp”.YouhavenowprogrammedKenwood.

5) Hereisthecharttoshowhowmanypressesofthe“VolumeUp”buttonisneededforwhichradioyouaretryingtoprogram:

Manual Radio Type Programming
Ifonlychangingtheradiotypeisneededthenfollowthisprocedurebelow.
1) Withinthefirst25secondsofturningthekeyon,pressandholdthecar’s“VolumeDown”button.
2) After15secondsofholding“VolumeDown”,theASWC-1’sredLEDwillgoon.

5) Whenthedesiredradiotypehasbeenreached,Pressthe“VolumeDown”button.
6) TheLEDwillgoonandwillremainon(approximately3seconds).The ASWC-1 is internally computing and storing this new information.
7) TheLEDwillgo“Off”indicatingitiscompleted.
Note: If at any time the user fails to press any button for a period of 10 seconds or more, this programing mode will abort.

Remapping the SWC (Steering Wheel Control) Buttons
OnceyouhavetheASWC-1programmedyoucanthenchangethesteeringwheelcontrolbuttonassignment(s).Suchas,programingthe“SeekUp”buttonasa“Mute”function.FollowthestepsbelowtoremaptheSWCbuttons:
1) IdeallyhavetheASWC-1visible,soyoucanseetheLEDflashestoconfirmbuttonrecognition.
2) Turning“Off”theradioisrecommended.
3) Withinthefirst20secondsofturningtheignitionon,pressandholddownthe“VolumeUp”buttonforatleast20seconds.
4) TheLEDwilllightupsolidred.Release“VolumeUp”andtheLEDwillgoout.“VolumeUp”hasnowbeenprogrammed.
5) FollowthelistintheButtonAssignmentsection,page19,toreferencetheorderofwhatbuttonsneedtobepressedand/orhowtobypassabutton.
6) Afterthelastbuttonisprogrammedonyoursteeringwheel(youdonothavetogothroughthewholelist),holddownthe“VolumeUp”buttonforatleast10secondsthentheLEDwillgoout.

Note: Not all radios will have all of these commands. Please refer to the radio owner’s manual or contact the radio vendor directly for specific commands recognized by that particular radio.
If the next function on the list is not on the steering wheel press the “Volume Up” button for 1 second, until the LED comes on, then release the button. This tells the ASWC-1 that the function is not available will move on to the next function.
*Note (section B): If the ASWC-1 flashes 7 times and you do not have an Alpine radio connected to it that means that the ASWC-1 did not see any radio connected. Verify the 3.5mm connector is connected to the SWC input on the radio.

Dual Assignment Instructions
Note: Seek up and Seek down are already set to Preset up and Preset down for long press.
1) Turnontheignitionbutdonotstartthevehicle.
2) Pressandholddownthesteeringwheelbuttonthatyouwanttoassignalongpressfunctionto,forabouttensecondsuntiltheLEDrapidlyflashesgreen.AtthispointreleasethebuttonandtheLEDwillgosolidgreen.
3) PressandreleasetheVOLUMEUPbuttonthenumberoftimescorrespondingtothenewbuttonnumberyouselected(seechartbelow).ThegreenLEDwillblinkrapidlywhentheVOLUMEUPispressedandbacktosolidgreenwhenreleased.(Caution,ifmorethantensecondselapsesbetweenaVOLUMEUPbuttonpress,thisprocedurewillabort,andtheLEDwillgooff).GotothenextstepwhentheVOLUMEUPbuttonhasbeenpressedthedesired numberoftimes.
4) Tostorethelongpressbuttoninmemory,pressthebuttonthatyouassignedalongpressbutton(thebuttonhelddowninstep1).TheLEDwillnowgooffindicatingithasbeenstored.
Note: These steps must be repeated for each button you would like to assign dual purpose action to.
Toresetabuttonbacktoitsoriginaluse,repeatstep1above.ThenpresstheVOLUMEDOWNbutton.TheLEDwillgooffandthelongpressmappingforthebuttonwillbeerased.

2) AsegúresedequeelradioqueestáinstalandoseacompatibleconlainterfasedecontrolenvolanteAxxess(ASWC-1)(consulteelmanualdelpropietariodelradiodemercadosecundario).
3) IralapáginawebdeAxxess(axxessinterfaces.com)yhagaclicenelenlacetitulado“INSTRUCCIONESASWC-1Vehículo”,queseencuentraenelladoderechodelapantallaenelcentro.Unavezqueustedponesuinformacióndelvehículo,hagaclicenelbotón“Enviar”.Estotellevaráaotrapágina,dondesehagaclicenelenlacedebajodelapalabra“documentos”.Estoproporcionarálasinstruccionesespecíficasdelvehículoparasuvehículo.Imprimaestedocumentoparaqueustedtieneconustedenelvehículodurantelainstalación,yaqueeslamejorymásrecientefuentedeinformación.
Nota: Aunque hemos llevado a cabo pruebas e investigación extensas (para verificar que los cables de control del volante, están enumeradas son correctas), sigue siendo responsabilidad suya verificar los cables del control en el volante con un multímetro. Si encuentra alguna discrepancia, por favor notifique a nuestro Departamento Técnico al 1-800-253-TECH. Instalación del ASWC-1
1) ConecteelcableNegrodelASWC-1atierra.Puedeutilizarelmismopuntodeaterrizadoqueelradiodemercadosecundario.
2) ConecteelcableRojodelASWC-1auncabledeaccesoriosde12-voltsqueseenciendayseapagueconlallavedeignición.
3) LocaliceloscablescorrectosdelSWCenelarnésprimarioosecundariodelvehículocomosedescribeenlahojadeinformacióndelvehículoqueseencuentraenelsitiowebdeAxxess.ConecteloscolorescorrectosdecabledesdeelASWC-1aloscablesdecontrolenelvolantedelvehículo.
Nota: Metra recomienda que el o los cables se suelden para lograr la mejor conexión, y la más segura. No se recomienda el uso de conectores tipo “T-Tap” o “Scotchlock” debido a que aumenta la probabilidad de intermitencia en la conexión o cambio en los valores de resistencia.

Nota: Algunos de los radios Kenwood más nuevos se detectarán automáticamente como JVC. Si este es el caso, puede usar una resistencia de 12k ohmios (incluida) en línea entre el cable Azul/Amarillo y marrón del conector hembra de 3.5mm durante la programación únicamente. O puede configurar manualmente el tipo de radio que está en la sección de programación de este manual.

ElASWC-1puedeprogramarsededosmaneras.(1)Puedehacerloautomáticamentemedianteelmododedetecciónautomática,o(2)puedeprogramarsemanualmenteenvehículosquenocuentancondatos.Serecomiendaempezarconel“Mododedetecciónautomática”primero.
Modo de detección automática: Información generalElASWC-1tienelacapacidaddedetectarautomáticamenteciertosvehículosydesaberacuálradiodemercadosecundarioestáconectado.LahojadeinformacióndelvehículodelsitiowebdeAxxess(www.axxessinterface.com)indicarásisuvehículoserádetectadoautomáticamenteyquéaccióndebeseguirustedparaqueesteprocesoselleveacabo.
Paraquelafuncióndedetecciónautomáticafuncione,hay3posiblesacciones.Sinembargo,soloserequiereunaaccióndesuparte,dependiendodesuvehículo.
• Enciendalaigniciónynoserequiereningunaotraacción.
• Enciendalaignición,presioneymantengapresionadoelbotóndesubirvolumenenelvolante.

8) Esteeselfinaldelaetapadedetecciónautomática.SielASWC-1detectaelvehículoylaradioconéxito,elLEDseiluminarásólido.
9) ParavehículosconbotonesBluetoothdelfabricanteoriginal,presione“Colgar”o“Descolgar”enelcontroldesuvolantedespuésdequeelfocoLEDsehayailuminadosinparpadear.SilosbotonesdeBluetoothdelfabricantedeequipooriginalpuedenutilizarse,elfocoLEDseapagarádespuésde3segundos.SusbotonesdeBluetoothdelfabricantedeequipooriginalahoraestánprogramadosparalosbotonesBluetoothdesuradiodemercadosecundario(elradiodemercadosecundariodebesercompatibleconBluetooth).
Consejo: Si el LED no se ilumina sólido consulte la sección de solución de problemas.
10)Asegúresedequelosbotonesdecontrolenelvolantefuncionencorrectamenteenelvehículoydisfrute.

Modo de detección automática
AsíqueyaprobólafuncióndedetecciónautomáticayalfinalelfocoLEDnosequedódecolorrojosinparpadear.Enlugardeello,empezóaparpadear,loquesignificaqueelASWC-1nodetectóelvehículo.
Sigaestospasosparadeterminarquépuedehaberocurrido:
1) Verifiquequetieneunaccesoriode12-voltsyunabuenatierraalASWC-1.Enocasioneslatierradefábricanoessuficiente,serecomiendaampliamenteunatierraachasís.SisuvehículotieneuncabledetierradereferenciadeSWC,póngaloatierratambiénconelchasís,juntoconsuradiodemercadosecundario.
2) Valideusandolahojadeinformacióndelvehículo(sitiowebAxxess)queeloloscablesdecontrolenelvolantedelvehículocorrectossehayanconectadoaeloloscablescorrectosdelASWC-1.
3) Confirmequeelconectorde3.5mmestéconectadofirmementeasuradioyqueestéenellugarcorrecto.
4) Siutilizaelconectorhembrade3.5mmenunradioEclipse,Kenwood,algunosJVCoMetraOE,verifiquequeelcableSWCdelradioestéconectadoalcablecorrectoalASWC-1.
Programación manual del modo de detección automática
SisuvehículonoestáenlalistadedetecciónautomáticadelASWC-1enelsitiowebAxxess,www.axxessinterface.com,puedeprogramarmanualmenteunvehículosindatossiguiendoestospasos(tengalaleyendaASWC-1disponible).
Nota: No todos los radios tendrán todos los comandos SWC posibles en el volante. Los radios de mercado secundario que no tengan

Bluetooth no reconocerán los comandos PPT (presionar para hablar) o de teléfono colgado o descolgado; sin embargo, estos botones pueden programarse manualmente para realizar otros comandos en algunos casos. Consulte el manual del propietario del radio o el control remoto para ver los comandos específicos que el radio puede reconocer.

7) Puedeterminarestamitaddelaprogramaciónde2maneras:
(1) Despuésdeprogramarelúltimobotóndesuvolante(notienequehacertodalalista),mantengapresionadoelbotónde“Subirvolumen”durantecuandomenos10segundos.ElfocoLEDseiluminaráenunmododeparpadeolentoyconstante.

Nota: Si en cualquier momento se equivoca, mantenga presionado el botón de restablecimiento en el ASWC-1 durante 10 segundos o más. Esto reiniciará la programación manual. Vuelva al Paso 4 y empiece de nuevo.

Cambio de tipo de radio
SielparpadeodelfocoLEDnocorrespondealradioquetieneconectado,debeprogramarmanualmenteelASWC-1paraindicaracuálradioestáconectado.
1) Paraprogramarmanualmenteelradiodemercadosecundario,presioneymantengapresionadoelbotóndebajarvolumenenelcontroldelvolantehastaqueelfocoLEDsequedeenrojosinparpadear,luegosuelteelbotóndebajarvolumen.
2) Enestemomento,elEclipseestáprogramado.SiestáutilizandounradioEclipse,vayaalpaso3.Siestáutilizandootroradio,vayaalpaso4.
3) Presioneymantengapresionadoelbotóndebajarvolumendurante5segundos.ElfocoLEDparpadearáunavezyluegoseiluminarádecolorrojosinparpadear,indicandoquehafinalizado laprogramación.Disfrutedesuradio.
4) SisuradionoesEclipse,presioneelbotóndesubirvolumendenuevohastaqueelfocoLEDseilumineenrojosinparpadear,luegosuelteelbotóndesubirvolumen.HaprogramadoelradioKenwood.

Nota: Si en cualquier momento el usuario no presiona ningún botón durante 10 segundos o más, este modo de programación se abortará.

Nota: No todos los radios tienen todos estos comandos. Consulte el manual del propietario del radio o comuníquese con el proveedor del radio directamente para obtener los comandos específicos reconocidos por ese radio en particular.
Si la siguiente función de la lista no está en el volante, presione el botón de subir volumen durante 1 segundo hasta que el foco LED se encienda, luego suelte el botón. Esto le indica al ASWC-1 que la función no está disponible y pasará a la siguiente función.

Nota: Busque y Busque hacia abajo ya están configurados a un máximo predefinido y predeterminado por mucho tiempo la prensa.
1) Apagueelencendido,peronoarranqueelvehículo.
2) Pulseymantengapulsadoelbotóndelvolantequedeseaasignarunafuncióndepulsaciónlargapara,duranteunosdiezsegundoshastaqueelLEDparpadearápidamenteenverde.EnestepuntodedesengancheelbotónyelLEDsevandecolorverde.
3) PulseysuelteelbotónSUBIRVOLUMENelnúmerodevecescorrespondientealnúmeronuevobotónseleccionado(vertablaabajo).ElLEDverdeparpadearárápidamentecuandolosbotonesSUBIRsepresionaydenuevoaverdefijocuandosesuelta.(Atención,simásdediezsegundostranscurreentreunvolumendehastapulsarelbotón,esteprocedimientoseabortaráyelLEDseapaga).IralasiguienteetapacuandoelbotónSUBIRVOLUMENhapulsadoladeseadanúmerodeveces.
4) Paraguardarelbotóndepulsaciónlargaenlamemoria,pulseelbotónquesehaasignadounbotóndepulsaciónlarga(elbotónpulsadoenelpaso1).AhoraelLEDseapagaráindicandoquehasidoalmacenada.
