Prerequisites

Before installing your product, determine your license type.

These steps summarize the actions you must take to install a Sybase Software Asset Management (SySAM) license. Refer to the SySAM Users Guide <would like this to be a link> for details.

1.  Evaluation version, a license is not required.*

2.  Choose a SySAM license model

License model Description

A.  Unserved license model - Licenses are obtained directly from a license file.

B.  Served license model - A license server manages the allocation of licenses among multiple machines.**

<need a link to more info> on infocenter

*ALL other developer and deployment editions, obtain a license through SySAM.

**The license server and your product installation do not need to share the same machine, operating system, or architecture.

■ License details § License is based on host ID of machine(s) on which server is installed § Both cores and seats can be divided amongst multiple machines

E.g. 8 cores/2000 devices split into two licenses, each for 4 cores and 1000 devices

§  Licenses is generated separately for cores and seats. So you will need to generate each for the host ID and only download the license file once this is done. This combines all licenses into a single license file per machine/Host ID.
