E-marketplaces have earned tremendous interest and participation in almostevery industry today. It’s a revolutionary time for online retail buying &bookings, now that there are so many more touch points for people to see, research and click. Consumers have embraced the choice and convenienceof shopping online, spending more than they would on actual retailshopping. In fact, surveys reveal that 80 per cent of retailers see customersas being more responsive to promotions and offers, and more demanding ofpersonal service (75 per cent) than they were one to two years ago. With theincreasing number of e-devices, consumers move from phone to tablet tolaptop and back again – a habit contagiously growing in the retail world. e-tailers have created more meaningful ways for people to have quick accessto the e-marketplace they need. Emerging technologies and analytics arenow allowing retailers to respond in real time where, with the growingpopularity of the smartphone, personalised offers could even be targeted atparticipating customers according to which e-retail website they’re in.Besides, the benefit of B2B e-marketplaces for both buyers and suppliers liesin automating the supply chain and the efficiencies gained by streamliningthe procurement process, which translates into significant bottom-line costsavings. Automating the supply chain process allows companies to focusmore on product and service improvements, sales efforts and other value-added activities. By driving costs out of the supply chain through improvedprocurement processes, online marketplaces are creating more efficient B2Band B2C transactions.

They have found a resource for world classproducts, which they would otherwise beshopping for in high streets of global cities,” saysMr. Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director, EPCH.

To facilitate sourcing by domestic buyers, EPCHhas made special arrangements amongstexhibiting companies through the SR coding/marking, meant to indicate that the companiesare interested in Retail Business - intended to savetime of domestic buyers for reaching out to thecorrect stand/companies. Domestic volume tradebuyers also have SR displayed on their badge.

India’s booming retail market with a growingdigital presence has gathered a new momentumand is offering extensive opportunities forrepositioning of Indian producers of lifestyleproducts to take centre stage. India is expected tobecome the world’s fastest growing e-commercemarket on the back of robust investment activityin the sector and the rapid increase in internetusers. It is expected that India’s e-commercemarket will grow to over US$ 100 billion by 2020.

Promising prospects in homefurnishings and lifestyle market inspireSR coding at IHGF

With the rise in purchasing power, and the growthof retail, the lifestyle of Indians is also transformingyear after year. The emerging middle class withmultiple earning members in each family is noweager to spend on lifestyle, home décor and otherrelated products. From the young working couplesto middle class households in the hinterlands, people are getting increasingly attracted to valueadded, stylish and high end home fashionproducts. Those in urban areas are taking pride inpicking the right combination of home décor, furnishings and textiles to impart their ownpersonality to their homes and are also gettingincreasingly generous with their gift spending. Asa result, there is a healthy and steady growth inthe Indian markets for home décor andhousewares (25-30% per annum). The domestichome textiles and furnishings market is growingat around 40%.

India’s flourishing E-retail sectorcontributes as well

With the growth in the demand for home décor, furnishings and other home improvementproducts, e-retailing is turning out to be a lucrativechannel for increasing sales for manufacturers.

Internationally, consumers of home productsincreasingly prefer to shop online. In India, with3g reaching to over 80% of Indian masses, onlineshopping is bound to increase as the more timepeople spend online, the more probable it is thatthey will shop. Over the next 5 years, overall retailis expected to grow by 12-15%, organized retailby 25-30% and e-retail by 60%. By the year 2020,estimated size of total e-commerce business inIndia is likely to reach USD 70 million, clearlyindicating a bright future for e-retailers.

The belief that online buying is restricted toeducated Indians in urban areas looking fordiscounts stands proven wrong, as many e-tailersderive 60% of sales from non-discounted products. It is also easier to study the consumer behavioronline and market products accordingly due tothe availability of huge amounts of data. E-retailingof home products also allows for concept sellingas it is easier to take picture of a room fromdifferent angles and show it to the buyers onlinethan setting up a mock room in a brick and mortarstore.

Save your time! Here for DomesticRetail Sourcing? Exhibitors’s stallsinterested in retail have the SRsymbol. Domestic volume tradebuyers also have this displayed ontheir badge. 1185 exhibitors at theshow are also open to domestic retail.

Among its many recent attributes,IHGF Delhi Fair has opened its doorsto domestic volume retail buyers, interior designers and architects. Many of the Indian stores/wholesalebuyers and leading e-Commercechains keen to source internationalquality products within India alreadycount themselves among patrons.
