The spiritual development of our students is of foremost importance and is infused into every aspect of our school day from prayers to start class, religious instruction, liturgical worship to discussions of Catholic virtues and themes across the curriculum.

Campus Ministry exists to help in the spiritual growth, prayer & worship, discipleship, sacramental life, social justice and preparation of leaders in service for the Church and society. The Camden Catholic experience is informed by the teachings of the Church which brings to life a campus rich in the school’s charism, first established in 1887 by the Sisters of Mercy and the Holy Cross Brothers, who founded CCHS, the oldest Catholic High School in the Diocese. The Holy Cross Brothers eventually went on to help form the University of Notre Dame. The Sisters of Mercy remained an integral part of the Camden Catholic experience as faculty and administrators of the school for the next 125 years.

FAITH & WORSHIP

• Daily Mass in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel prior to the school day at 7:45 a.m. (all are welcome)

• Daily school-wide morning and afternoon prayer

• School-wide monthly Masses and other liturgical experiences and retreats throughout the academic year

• School-wide Sacrament of Reconciliation during the seasons of Advent and Lent

• Prayer experiences for our athletes, performing arts students and for other extracurricular activities

• Prayer at the beginning of every class

• Convocation Wednesday: weekly all-school meeting and/or Mass to celebrate our faith and experience testimonials from Catholics, Christians and other faith leaders.

CHRISTIAN SERVICE PROGRAM

Putting faith into action is essential to the spiritual development of our students and building the Kingdom of God. Seeking opportunities to love those in most need not only allows us to live out the Christian call to discipleship, it allows us to continue the charism of our founders, the Sisters of Mercy, to be “united to God through service.”

Christian Service is an annual requirement, hours vary by grade level. In addition, CCHS is a Catholic Relief Services Global High School which allows students to partner with CRS to educate about Catholic social teaching and advocate for solidarity with the global poor.

CCHS leads a number of school-wide service opportunities, including:

• Lenten Rice Bowl Collection

• Diocesan FaithFULL Food Drive

• NCEA Disaster Relief Support Drives

• Cathedral Kitchen meal service

• Guadelupe Family Services assistance

RETREATS

CCHS has developed a unique retreat program unlike any other high school retreat program. We do not follow a “one size fits all” retreat format that provides one overall retreat for each class. We recognize that each young person is at a different stage in their life-long faith formation and so we strive to meet students where they are at and further develop their relationship with God. Each student is required to complete one retreat each academic year, the majority of students complete two or more retreats.

Retreats offered include:

• Sacramental Awareness Retreat: strengthening one’s relationship with God through the sacraments.

• Kairos (God’s Time): overnight retreat geared toward deepening one’s faith, identity, relationships, and connection to God’s role in our lives.

• Catholic Performers for Christ: for all students in choir, band, actors guild/Shakespeare troupe/Thespian Society, stage crew and musical and adult directors and moderators.

• Freshman Retreat in Camden, NJ: focuses on the charism of mercy, history and traditions of Camden Catholic High School.

• Catholic Athletes for Christ: seasonally, athletes participate in retreats as a team to grow their faith and fellowship.

Faith IN ACTION.

THE Council : Student leaders identify diverse opportunities for the student body to enhance their learning of thinking globally and morally.

National Honor Society: Student leaders organize learning opportunities for students to strengthen their critical thinking skills.

Link Crew: Student leaders learn the basic tenets of teaching students to work in teams and understand their differences.

Green and White Society : Student leaders learn about the business world and the ability to communicate and speak in front of large groups.

Cathedral Scholars : This program gives students experiential learning to broaden their worldview and develop a sense of where their passions may be found.

WRITING CENTER

The CCHS Writing Center is open to all students two days a week after school. The goal of the Writing Center is to provide support to students in their academic writing endeavors. Staffed by the English department faculty and peer tutors, students are welcome to drop in and have their writing reviewed. Students can visit the Writing Center for feedback on an essay topic, assistance with last minute editing, or more thorough guidance if struggling with a paper.

It is the goal of all the courses at CCHS for students to learn to articulately express themselves through their writing. The Writing Center is a place which supports the school’s strong commitment to the edification of this skill, which provides a solid foundation as our students prepare for college.

BECOME A PART OF THE

Tradition.. Camden Catholic High School has sent more students to college than any other high school in the Diocese of Camden. Opened in 1887 as the first high school in the Diocese, and located adjacent to the illustrious Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, CCHS maintains an alumni family of over 15,000 graduates. The curriculum has evolved, the campus has changed, but our values remain the same: Honor, Faith and Loyalty since 1887.

Student Transportation

Students travel to Camden Catholic via various school district bussing services, school district rebates, CCHS bus contracts, or parent/student car pools. We make every attempt to make transportation convenient to our families. Often this requires sacrifices on all those involved in providing your child a well-rounded education. Our cafeteria is a monitored study hall from 7:30 a.m. until the start of school and from the end of school until 6 p.m. Camden Catholic does not charge for this service as we try to make every effort to help you in your journey through high school. For a list of school districts that provide transportation or aid (state reimbursement of $1,000), please go to our website under “Admissions” and “Transportation.”

50% OF 2020 CCHS GRADUATES RECEIVED COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS IN EXCESS OF THE COST OF FOUR YEARS OF CCHS TUITION

Camden Catholic understands the financial demands a Catholic education can put on a family. However, after four years at Camden Catholic, seeing the outcome of your well-rounded child spiritually, socially, and academically, is a blessing way beyond the four years of sacrifice. Not all students who apply for financial aid will receive aid and the average financial aid award is from $500 to $1000 for the year. There are no guarantees that you will receive financial aid in future years. Your financial position may change and Camden Catholic must weigh the needs of all families each year based on our standards.

All financial aid applications are done on-line through FACTS Tuition Management (https://online.factsmgt.com/signin/3KC1C) and are to be completed by January 15, 2021, which includes sending all supporting documents to FACTS Tuition Management. You will use financial information from 2019. Often applications are delayed because the family did not send all the completed supporting documents. This will delay receiving any information about aid. Financial aid awards will be made by the middle of January based on these applications. While applications are accepted until March 15, the financial aid funds are more limited after the January deadline.

FAMILY DISCOUNTSFamilies with multiple children enrolled at Camden Catholic are eligible for discounts on tuition. The second child receives a 10% discount and the third child receives a 20% discount.

MERIT SCHOLARSHIPSStudents who score in the top 10% of the High School Placement Test are eligible for Merit Scholarships. These scholarships can range from $1,500 to $7,000 for four years. Students with these scores are invited to Camden Catholic in December for an interview and to provide a writing sample. These scholarships are renewable for four years as long as the student maintains at least a 3.0 grade point average, completes their community service, and whose families are an active part of the school community.

PERFORMING ARTS SCHOLARSHIPSStudents who show an interest in any of the Arts at CCHS, which include band, choir, dance and fine art, will be asked to audition or show an art portfolio in December. Scholarships range from $750 to $1,000 renewable for four years as long as the student maintains at least a 2.75, is enrolled in at least one arts class or seminar, completes their community service, and whose families are an active part of the arts community.

ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPSCamden Catholic is very fortunate to have a supporting alumni network that provides various scholarships from year to year. Each scholarship will have different requirements but only one scholarship application needs to be completed. Please see the website at www.camdencatholic.org under “Admissions” and “Scholarships” for more information.

AN INVESTMENT IN your future.

ALUMNI SUPPORT:

CCHS Alumni return home to campus to share their talents, treasures and time with CCHS students on a regular basis.

• CAREER CHATS: instead of one career day, CCHS hosts alumni during lunches throughout the year when students have the opportunity to casually chat with alumni in different professions during their lunch and free periods, gain professional advice and insight into college, career and CCHS connections.

• ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPS: CCHS alumni love supporting current and future students. Annually, scholarships are funded by alumni and their families and made available to incoming freshmen and current students who meet the requirements and are eligible.

• ACADEMIC, ARTS & ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME: each spring a new class of inductees is honored at CCHS for their accomplishments here at CCHS and in their greater communities. Students have the opportunity to meet these special individuals, hear them speak in class, and even attend the award ceremony.

• IRISH GIVING DAY: held annually on or around St. Patrick’s Day, this 24-hour donor event brings together the entire CCHS family, including students, parents, alumni, donors, faculty and staff. In 2020 CCHS raised almost $150,000 in one day from more than 1,200 donors in 41 states across the country.

Liam Barnett ‘20 Baylor University ‘24“CCHS prepared me for the college application process through The College Bootcamp it offers every year. The Bootcamp was a step by step process of the common application, making sure I knew how to complete every section with confidence. During the school year the guidance department door was always open for any questions I had as well. CCHS made sure I was ready for the process, and was always available when I had questions.“

Wam Wam Lin ‘21 “Camden Catholic is truly my second home. As an international student from China, the Camden Catholic community is my family in the U.S. The faculty and my classmates support and care for me in all of my high school endeavors, just as a true family would do.”

Zachary Toles ‘20 Villanova University ‘24 “My education at Camden Catholic has prepared extremely well for college. I was confident that I would succeed wherever I applied. My education at Camden Catholic has also taught me to envision my future, leading me to look for an institution that will prepare me for life after college.”

Mary Gardner ‘20 Catholic University ‘25**Mary deferred her acceptance for one year due to the pandemic. She is doing an internship at the White Violet Center for Eco-Justice in Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana.“I’ve learned to cultivate confidence over my four years of experiences in the performing arts at CCHS. Watching upperclassmen fearlessly meet challenges, explore their talents, and a humility of messing up, but trying again, was encouraging. Attending

the Catholic Performers for Christ Retreat as a freshman to then leading the retreat my senior year, I came full circle in believing that there is great joy in sharing your God-given talents with others as it opens yourself to relationships of encouraging mutual awareness and learning from each other.”

Dalton Foster ‘20University of Connecticut ‘24“In four years at CCHS I’ve learned to expand my horizons. During my freshman and sophomore year I was afraid to go beyond what I already knew. In my upper class years I finally let go of that mindset, which allowed me to meet others and have new experiences. I learned that expanding my horizons was the best way to experience all the greatest aspects of high school.”

Tamara Rene ‘20 The College of New Jersey ‘24 “CCHS really taught me how to step out of my comfort zone and have faith in myself and my abilities. The education I received at CCHS gave me confidence that I would get into each school, and I feel prepared heading into college.”

Lauren Owens ‘20 Camden County College“One of the most vital lessons I learned at CCHS is inclusivity. After attending a public school in a small town, one of my favorite aspects of Camden Catholic was the possibility to meet people from not only many different areas, but from all over the world. The students and faculty at CCHS embrace diversity and culture in a way that is so special. I learned that no matter one’s likes, dislikes, interests, or differences, they can influence my perspective for the better. Meeting so many people with so many different backgrounds afforded me an opportunity to see how I am just a small piece in a much larger puzzle that is life.”

Matthew Denton ‘20 Haverford College ‘24 “I learned a vital lesson at CCHS: time fuels everything. Athletic and academic success, relationships, faith, and all the other endeavors I will pursue require a time commitment in order to reap benefits; in other words, how time is spent matters.”

Gabrielle Mboya ‘20 Rochester Institute of Technology ‘24 “At CCHS I learned that I should adopt a more stoic outlook on life: time will move forward whether we want it to or not, so it’s important not to let anything negative affect our overall outlook and positivity in life, even if said situation drastically changes how we live. The last few months of high school also taught me how much I actually rely on others to keep moving forward. Even if we don’t get to see each other as often as we’d like, we still support one another in our individual endeavors.”

Harrison Keller ‘20 James Madison University ‘24 “CCHS not only gave me a well rounded education but also gave me a platform to explore all possible major options right from freshman year. I was given support by teachers and mentors to apply to all different schools, big and small, to pursue what I wanted to do. My experience at CCHS gave me the confidence to know I will be successful at any college I choose to attend.”

Olivia Musick ‘20 Catholic University ‘24 “As a Cathedral Scholar and honors student, Camden Catholic showed me the benefits of hands-on world experience and challenging curricula. Thus, while on my college search, I chose to apply to schools with well-respected, challenging, and innovative nursing programs who offered excellent clinical experience as evidenced in their high NCLEX pass rates.”
