Over the years, the company has strategically invested in additional fabrication capacity as well as in innovation and technology, in order to be always able to fulfil the expectations of its clients and partners.

It’s clear that the success is based on a solid and dedicated team, mixing the

experience, know-how and the strong values of the A.Silva Matos Group, with the young, creative and ambitious team spirit.

ASM Industries

Being a manufacturer of heavy steel products, ASMI has its focus on three business lines: wind towers, offshore foundations and marine structures. To fulfil

its business strategy, it has created industrial capacity in three operating units located in Portugal, a country with long tradition and experience in the steel works, served by a long Atlantic coast.

Steel wind towers

Completed steel tower sections both for onshore and offshore application.

Inspired by origins, challenging the present, fabricating the future

Part of A. Silva Matos Group, founded in 1980, a family owned Portuguese Industrial Group operating in the steel industry worldwide, ASM Industries (ASMI) is a holding company that operates in the manufacturing of steel equipment for the renewable and marine industries. The company is nowadays a reference in the supply chain among the wind power industry. Since 2006, the company has already supplied more than 4000 steel wind tower sections worldwide, becoming a trustworthy, reliable and recognized partner.

ASM Energia

Located in Aveiro District: this facility is mainly dedicated to the serial manufacturing of onshore wind towers and other tubulars.

During 2016, ASM Industries invested 5M€ in ASM Energia, mainly in a new production line, the increase of the surface treatment facilities, additional storage area and rolling capacity up to 120mm.

This investment increased the fabrication capacity of ASM Energia by approximately 40%, from 18,000 tonnes of steel processed per year to around 30,000 tonnes.

In 2017, ASM Energia supplied more than 550 complete wind tower sections, among other tubulars for the wind industry. Currently, more than 140 specialized staff work at ASM Energia.

ASM Offshore

ASM Offshore is currently under construction, in the North Terminal of Aveiro Port, with free access to the sea and a private quay side of 200m. It will have a dedicated and specialized fabrication capacity to the wind and offshore market. The new operating unit will begin ramping up in March 2019, and will create 150 new jobs. ASM Offshore will have capacity to process more than 40,000 tonnes of steel per year.

It is certainly one the biggest steel fabrication facilities in Portugal, with a significant lifting capacity and the ability to serial manufacture wind towers and offshore foundations.

The new industrial infrastructure comprises a total area of about 72,000m2 and will have state-of-the-art technology. It represents a 29,000,000€ investment, co-financed from the Compete 2020/Portugal 2020 program and EU European Structural and Development Funds.

Having their own quay side of 200m and direct access to the Atlantic Ocean means it possible to receive raw materials and off load finished heavy weight and huge products.

‘The goal is clear: to be a world-class reference metalworking group in the renewable energy and offshore sector, a market with high growth and future potential.’

ASM Marine

Located in Setúbal, inside Lisnave Shipyard, this operating unit, with access to a quay side and dry dock, is optimal for heavy fabrication and labour-intensive assembly works.

During 2017, ASM Industries made an investment of around 4,000,000€ in new cutting, rolling and welding machinery and in the adaptation of the fabrication hall for manufacturing steel tubulars and structures for offshore application.

Currently ASM Marine is performing the fabrication and assembly of two floating foundations for the Windfloat Atlantic Project. This was carried out at the Lisnave Shipyard in May 2018. Currently, it employees more than 70 specialized people.

Major references / projects of ASM Industries:

ENEOP Consortium:

ASM Industries is part of ENEOP, a Portuguese Industrial Consortium, which has installed 1200MW of wind power in Portugal. The steel wind towers were produced at ASM Energia and are operational and installed all over the Portuguese territory, in a direct cooperation with the several partners in the consortium, namely ENERCON.

WINDFLOAT 1

In 2011, ASM manufactured and assembled the Windfloat 1, at Lisnave Shipyard, a full-scale prototype, installed in the Portuguese Atlantic coast.

‘The tests were carried out over five years, with a pioneering prototype of wind power production, based on a platform in the open sea in Aguçadoura, near Póvoa de Varzim. According to EDP Renováveis, the tests proved the reliability of the technological solution in adverse weather conditions, by withstanding waves over 17 meters and winds above 60 knots.’ EDP Renewables & Principle Power.

WindFloat Atlantic Project

The goal is clear: to be a world-class reference metalworking group in the renewable energy and offshore sector, a market with high growth and future potential.

In July ASM Industries announced that the company had been awarded the contract to manufacture and supply two complete platforms for the new offshore wind farm in Viana do Castelo, part of the WindFloat Atlantic project. The production of the foundations is already underway and the delivery of the platforms is scheduled for June 2019.

The company spokesperson described this to PES as a clear victory for ASM Industries’ strategy: to position the company among Europe’s leading suppliers of steelworks for the energy sector.

This is a very important contract for ASM Industries, primarily because it is located in our country, and on the other hand a clear validation of ASM’s strategy and industrial investments in Portugal.

The WindFloat project is part of the Industrial Strategy for Ocean Renewable

Energies. The main purpose of the Government is to create the conditions for the emergence of a new export industrial cluster, with 1,500 new direct jobs and ASM Industries has been one of the major references to push this National Strategy.

New and innovative wind towers

ASM Industries is currently producing new and innovative wind towers for several projects, to be applied onshore. All the information is confidential and no additional details can be revealed. ASM Energia is the operating unit in charge of these projects.

This is one more proof that innovation is part of ASM Industries philosophy and core beliefs. The need to follow the needs of our clients is our daily focus and we are very proud to be involved in such innovative and important developments in the wind power industry.

Sustainable growth

Over the last years, clearly ASM Industries have invested strongly in new fabrication capacities. In July, ASM Industries announced a 4,500,000€ investment from a

private equity in ASM Offshore operating unit. This financial support will make it possible to meet the strategic goal of ASM Industries, to reach 50,000,000€ in 2020.

Since 2014 the company has been growing steadily at a yearly rate of 20%, but this year it will achieve 100%.

In 2016, Strategic Growth Plan was started, with more than 40,000,000€ investment in fabrication capacity, in the 3 different operating units.

We want to export from Portugal to all of Europe and America. We are proud of our modern industrial and technologically advanced model, in a traditional steel works sector.

The strength of ASM Industries lies in the young, dynamic and dedicated team, fearless of working and competing with the largest companies in a rapidly expanding market. It is the spirit and attitude that sets us apart.

Nowadays, besides the workforce in the operational units, ASM Industries has a team of more than 40 people working in its corporate center, namely commercial, People & Culture, Project Management, Finance, Engineering, Quality, HSE, and Industrial Operations, giving support to all the group and our clients.

We do it:

Right ... as we commit to QUALITY, to ON TIME delivery, ensuring everyone’s SAFETY.

Better ... as CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT is part of our Culture to achieve EXCELLENCE.

Passionately ... as we have an ENTHUSIASTIC team, motivated to achieve the highest PERFORMANCE!

For you ... as every project is SPECIAL and we expect your challenges to help us EXCEED OURSELVES.
