Our De TerraTM clay products are produced in Europe, providing customers with a high quality, cosmopolitan range of handmade clay pavers and bricks. Offering the USA’s largest range of natural stone, we carefully source the very best from quarries around the world. However the majority of our stone products come from our own operated quarries and processing factory facilities in India. After choosing the style, color and finish of your stone, another very important consideration should be the sourcing of this stone. The best way customers can ensure that their choice of stone has been ethically sourced, is by checking that the stone supplier is a member of the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) and can prove good ethical practices in manufacturing and can demonstrate appropriate activity within the human rights arena. Natural Paving Products has been a full member of the ETI for several years and takes an active role in their specialist Stone Group.

We import from a number of countries to offer the best in choice but unlike our competitors we operate a number of quarry mines and factories in India. As a manufacturer we invest in our supply chain and the people that work in it. Fully aware of inhumane practices, (including child labor) that exist in some parts of the world, Natural Paving Products has made a firm commitment to demonstrate to our industry, just how natural stone mining should and can be carried out successfully and ethically.

Our recent work with the SCMCH school and hostel, located near to our new factory in India has included the installation of a new clean drinking water system, the installation of a new ten station computer classroom and financial donations to this very worthy cause. The local media have taken an interest in our work, which we hope will enhance our acceptance into this village and enable us to give something back to the community.

Our long term commitment to this project is to make life much better for the Children at SCMCH and of the villages of Madhya Pradesh.

In 2015 Natural Paving Products engaged with Kailash Satyarthi, an Indian children’s rights and education advocate and an activist against child labor. He founded the Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA Save the Childhood Movement) in 1980 and has acted to protect the rights of more than 83,000 children from 144 countries. It is largely because of his work and activism that the International Labor Organization adopted Convention No.182 on the worst forms of child labor, which is now a principal guideline for governments around the world.

His work is recognised through various national and international honors and awards including the Nobel Peace Prize of 2014, which he shared with Malala Yousafzai from Pakistan.

As part of the BBA auditing process, Kailash and his team have visited our factory and he is now working very closely with us on various charity projects with our ultimate aim of eradicating child labor and improving education standards within the stone regions of India.

Choosing a stone for use in construction is not all about the color and texture. The suitability, durability and longevity of the stone for particular installations are also key factors.

In July 2013, the Construction Production Regulations made it mandatory for suppliers (in the UK) to provide key data and CE mark each product allowing users to make informed choices. David Richardson is a Fellow of the Geological Society and past President of The Stone Federation of Great Britain and as a Natural Stone Consultant at FMDC he undertakes work on the suitability of geological materials for incorporation in building projects. David has worked with Natural Paving Products in developing a stone standard for aiding customer choice. Ask your local Sales Representative for details on the standards.

David comments, “It is important for the end user to select the right material for their project, so buying from a supplier that provides compliant and tested products is very important. Consumers should also be wary that some suppliers fabricate test data to give the appearance that they comply with the Statutory Regulations. Also, buying from a source with good ethical and sustainable credentials helps minimise abuse and other unacceptable practices within the wider supply chain.”

To allow our customers to match their vertical surfaces with our beautiful hardscape products, we now offer our calibrated LaminaTM Veneer stone. LaminaTM Veneer is compatible with almost all wall surface materials such as metal, wood, cement, brick, and gyprock. Rough hewn natural stone is heavy to transport and install. LaminaTM Veneer is significantly lighter in weight providing ease of handling for those who wish to install veneer without professional help.

Installing Calibrated Natural Flagstones

One word describes the installation of Natural Paving’s natural stone flagstone....EASY!

Our flagstones are calibrated to a nominal 1” thickness allowing a wider range of applications than traditional flagstone. Flagstone typically ranges in thickness from 1”-2” requiring the skills of a trained mason to select and lay the stone, usually in a mortar bed to compensate for the difference in thickness. This problem and additional labor time is eliminated with our calibrated flagstone.

Suitable methods available to install our calibrated flagstones are shown in the cross sections on page 35 to the right.

Installation can be carried out using not only masons, but tile and concrete paver installers, keeping the cost of installation lower.

Our flagstone is dimensionally hand-cut to allow random installation using project packs or linear patterns using single size flagstones. Calibrated flagstones should be installed allowing for a nominal 1/2” joint between stones. Use string-lines or chalk every 10’ in each direction to ensure straight lines for an aesthetically pleasing installation.

To further simplify the installation process, we have developed the ‘1- LAYER SYSTEM’ for our calibrated products.

The 1-Layer SystemTM

Use of High Performance Bedding (HPB) for the installation of calibrated flagstone.

What is HPB?

• High Performance Bedding (HPB) has been used extensively throughout Canada as a bedding medium for dry lay installation of calibrated flagstone.

• In the United States it is sometimes known as #89 crushed stone.

• HPB is an angular, crushed, washed material.

• HPB achieves 93% Proctor density without use of compaction equipment.

Why use HPB?

• HPB greatly increases stability of bedding material for flagstone.

• Can be installed with same techniques used by sand-set paver installers.

• Ideal where ground has been disturbed by trenching such as pool decks.

• Can be used in ‘one lift’ for base course and bedding layer.

• Eliminates the cost of hauling two products to the jobsite.

• Free draining, reducing the potential for frost heave.

• Cost similar to ASTM C-33 bedding sand.

How to use HPB

The one layer method uses HPB for the full depth of the base and bedding layer. If you choose to use a different material for the base course, such as graded aggregate or crushed concrete, you should level and compact the base before spreading the HPB material.

Lay the calibrated flagstone on the screeded bedding material. Fill the joints with desired product such as Easy Joint, Heavy Duty Polymeric Sand or Gravel.

Installation

Spread the HPB material in the thickness required (approx 1”) and level with a rake.

Using iron pipe rails for grade control, screed material using a wooden or aluminium screed board.


Installing VitripiazzaTM Porcelain Flagstones

As with our calibrated flagstone, our VitripiazzaTM porcelain pavers are designed for ease of installation. Unlike the calibrated natural flagstones, our rectified porcelain pavers are produced to a very tight tolerance in all dimensions. This allows for an even wider range of applications and installation techniques. VitripiazzaTM pavers can be installed using the same methods listed in the calibrated flagstone method with the addition of the use of a pedestal system to allow a flat deck to be constructed with sub-surface drainage.

Due to the extremely low absorption rate of the porcelain pavers, care must be taken when using the thin-set method to ensure that a suitable bond is formed between the porcelain paver and the concrete base.

All installations should make use of spacers in the joints to ensure straight lines.

Installing De TerraTM Stone Pavers

Small element pavers have gained in popularity in the past 10 years. Technology has enabled concrete units to be produced with good tolerances allowing for ease of installation. We have combined this ease of installation with the enduring appeal of natural stone with our De TerraTM stone paver range.

Our natural stone pavers are produced from the same durable sandstones as our flagstone range enabling us to produce a 3cm (1 1/4”) thick paver that will withstand the loads from driveway traffic when bedded correctly.

Our natural stone pavers can be installed on a sand bed over compacted base or a low strength concrete base. Concrete paver installers can lay our natural stone pavers in exactly the same way as the concrete version using the ‘click and drop’ method to ensure a small joint between the stones.

A big advantage of these pavers, as with all our calibrated ClassicstoneTM and VitripiazzaTM flagstones, is that the reduced thickness allows for overlay of existing concrete or asphalt in situations where concrete pavers may be too thick for grade considerations. Remember, ‘Thin is in!’

Installing De TerraTM Clay Pavers

Our De TerraTM clay pavers are hand made and tumbled to give an old world appearance but they can be laid using modern day installation techniques.

At 6cm thick, they are suitable for both pedestrian and medium duty vehicular traffic. There are 2 main methods of installing clay pavers.

Sand or gravel set using screeded bedding layer over compacted base or bituminous set using a neoprene adhesive over a bituminous base.

Clay pavers should be laid in the same manner as our natural stone pavers using the ‘click and drop’ method to ensure a joint to minimize chipping.

If you would like to purchase any product in our range please contact us directly through our Customer Service Team on 888-240-8704. We can assist you by providing contact details of our network of dealers, designers and/or installers.

All sales will be subject to applicable Terms and Conditions that are available upon request.

Distribution

Natural Paving’s products are available to our dealers for collection or delivery from our Regional Distribution Centers currently located in Houston, TX and Savannah, GA.

All products must be checked on arrival and in the unlikely event of products being delivered in a less than satisfactory condition, please refer to your dealer immediately, allowing time for any defective product to be replaced.

About our Products

Products and materials, unless otherwise stated, are for domestic landscaping projects.

The product names do not always relate to the geology of the stone. All of our products vary in color and texture. Each individual piece will have distinct markings and may contain natural imperfections and defects. Size variations will also occur and unfortunately this means we cannot guarantee particular sizes. All product dimensions are nominal and calibrated products are subject to variations. Traditional and processed stone materials may result in some delamination of the surface of our products.

Please note that customers need to allow for wastage when ordering any of our products. As a result of the natural characteristics, production, transportation and cutting methods of the stone, these may result in up

to 10% of any order being unusable due to any of the following reasons (including without limitation): chips, blemishes, surface variations, breakages and discoloration. Customers should order an additional 10% in the volume of product required to complete their project.

Over time, environmental conditions may impact our products, that may attract lichen, algae and/or other organic growths and the appearance of our products may be affected. Due to the composition of natural stone and its mineral content, oxidisation and color variations may also occur. Some stones may suffer from efflorescence or staining from jointing, bedding and fixing compounds/mortar. How to Install and Product Care

Careful consideration must be given to the installation and care of our products. You should seek technical advice at all stages from your dealer, designer or installer regarding the care of the particular product you have purchased.

In particular please be aware that you should consider whether the product can be used for the purpose you require. Also please note that some sealers and other materials can damage all of our products. Staining of our products can occur if they are not cared for or are used incorrectly and specialist advice should always be sought if you are in any doubt. Health and Safety

We would recommend that you take extreme care when dealing with our products. In particular, many of our products are heavy and awkward in shape to lift and we recommend that suitable lifting equipment is used. Appropriate protective clothing should be worn at all times and health and safety legislation should be adhered to when working with our products. When cutting our products either with chisels or rotary disc cutters it is essential that suitable eye protection is worn. Always ensure that suitable respiratory protection is worn to avoid the inhalation of dust particles produced by high speed cutting devices.
