Inspirational Teaching Award The winners for this award:

Christopher Parris “Dr Parris is one of the most enthusiastic lecturers that I have ever

experienced. His passion for his subject is contagious leading to all of his students having a deep interest in cancer and also looking forward to his

lectures! He is also one of the most supportive academics who is approachable, friendly and feels like he cannot do enough to help and

support you. He makes you feel like he is really willing you to do as best as you are able to. His friendly demeanour makes his students feel like he

is a friend as well as an academic.”

“Emmanouil is an amazing lecturer, with clear module slides, always prepared for his lectures. This year he has introduced a new teaching technique, the use of mobile devices and tablets for an interactive study session. Every 2 hours a

week, we have interactive sessions using an online app called: PollEverywhere, using this we can answer a series of multiple choice questions, as well short

answer questions. This is brilliant; it engages all the students in the class in the race to get the right answer onto the main screen as soon as possible. “

Supervisor of the Year Award The winners for this award:

Jill Collis

“Dr. Collis is student oriented and is always looking out to improve the student experience here at Brunel University; she makes herself accessible to students and is always willing to give extra assistance when needed. Dr. Collis is an excellent

lecturer and supervisor, what I mostly admire about her is her remarkable ability to stimulate students to work hard on their

research area. Passion, energy and optimism are attributes that radiate from her supervision. Her dynamic teaching and supervision style also makes students to listen carefully to her

and seek her advice even when she is not their personal dissertation supervisor.”

Frazer Lee

“Frazer Lee is my screenwriting lecturer and every week I look forward to his lectures - even though it is 10am and three hours

long. Frazer has a unique way of making his lectures funny which means they are extremely engaging and entertaining. He uses

humour to engage the class as well as a combination of traditional teaching methods, film, and sound to make the learning experience

the best it can be. Frazer is really encouraging of group feedback and has utilised the Blackboard system to make student exchange

files and provide constructive comments on each other’s work. This approach really helps us improve, especially as it is an arts course.”

“Ashley Brown made an already interesting module the best that I have had during my entire time on the course. The exceptional

structure that Ashley taught the module in made it easy to engage and learn from. Ashley's teaching style, which was a perfectly

balanced mixture of lecturing and then engaging with the students in various ways such as debates and games, made this module

stand out from any others that I have had on this course positively and I'm grateful for having the luck to have been in that class.”

“Emma, was my PhD coordinator for long time. Since I registered as full time student I or my friends never face any problems as she is there for us, sorting the

things in a professional way never delaying the issues. She is on time in everything; meetings, seminars, supervision issues, conferences and

“Mauro was one of the few people in the Department to take the idea of Personal Tutoring to a whole new level. Since I started in

Brunel and until now, the personal tutoring system in the Department of Economics has become better and better. Mauro goes above and beyond to make sure that all the Personal Tutors are taking their roles seriously and does his best to advertise the tutoring system more. I know that if a problem comes up, I can

always drop him an email, pop in his office, or stop him on the main concourse and talk to him, and he will always come to the rescue..”

“Michael has displayed excellent work on his role as a Graduate Teaching Associate. During the laboratory sessions, Michael always takes a pro-active approach to check the progress of

students in his classes and builds a good rapport with his students. Michael provides outstanding support for students who may need additional clarification or help on a particular taught

topic. Michael always goes above and beyond his role. One example of this is that Michael finds time in his busy schedule to meet students outside the laboratory sessions to ensure he can

help them identify useful programming resources. This helps students maximise their time and attain success at university.”
