2. A philosophy professor stoodbefore his class with some itemson the table in front of him. 3. When the class began, he pickedup a very large and emptymayonnaise jar and proceededto fill it with rocks, about 2inches in diameter. 4. He then asked the students if the jar wasfull.They agreed that it was. 5. So the professor then picked up a box ofpebbles and poured them into the jar. Heshook the jar lightly.The pebbles, of course, rolled into theopen areas between the rocks. 6. He then asked the students again if thejar was full. They agreed it was. 7. The professor picked up a box of sandand poured it into the jar. Of course, thesand filled up everything else.He then asked once more if the jar wasfull. The students responded with aunanimous Yes. 8. Now, said the professor, I want you torecognize that this jar represents yourlife. The rocks are the important things your family, your partner, yourhealth, your children things that ifeverything else was lost and only theyremained, your life would still be full. 9. The pebbles are the other things thatmatter like your job, your house, yourcar. 10. The sand is everything else. The smallstuff. 11. If you put the sand into the jar first, hecontinued there is no room for thepebbles or the rocks. The same goes foryour life. 12. There will always be time to go towork, clean the house, give a dinnerparty and fix the disposal. 13. Take care of the rocks first the thingsthat really matter. 14. Set your priorities! 15.
