My friend ran a small software education firm and was a social activist (What, we didn't

know till his death). One unfortunate day he passed away at an young age due to heart

    attack.

I saw his father, his sisters had no tears in their eyes. When he was taken to the burial

grounds, we received a call from unknown number asking us to wait for 5 minutesbefore the burial. When we did so, we saw at least 50 physically challenged student,

few on wheel chair, few with crutches, few blind having come from miles away to get a

last glimpse of my friend. These people had genuine tears in their eyes. WIth teary

eyes they paid their last homage

The book "Unbroken" in extremely inspirational to me as it's based on Louie

Zamperini's life. Louie was a Olympic runner who ran in the 1936 Olympics and

actually met Hitler as result. He was enlisted in the US Air Force when his crew plane

crashed during the beginning of the fighting in the Pacific in World War II . Only he and

two crew members survived. They survived on a raft with little food and no water, subsisted on captured rainwater and small fish eaten raw. They caught an albatross

and used some of its meat to catch fish, all while fending of f constant shark attacks and

nearly being capsized by a storm and also shot at by a Japanese bomber. One of the

men died during this time but Louie and another man survived being on a raft f or 48

days with little food and water. The Japanese captured Louie and the man and

Louie become a POW where he was badly beaten and tormented by one particular

sadistic prison guard for2 years. After the war, Louie got married but had nightmares

of the evil guard and had to drink heavily to medicate. Louie turned his alcoholism and

marriage around at a Billy Graham revival and he even visited Japan to personally

forgive the guards who tortured him. Louie's humility, perseverance, and love of life are

models for us all. He turned 96 years young this past January

Long long ago, on Aug 19th was born Sudha Kulkarni, who later grew up to complain

about 'Lady candidates need not apply' instruction in a Job requirement notice of Telco

(Tata Motors) by writing a postcard to JRD Tata. Granted a special interview as a

consequence of her postcard, she became the first female engineer to be hired at

TATA. Having worked closely with JRD, Sudha Kulkarni went on to become Sudha

Murthy while at Tata. She had never thought about taking up a job in India during her

MTech in Computer Science at I ISc.

She later bid goodbye to Telco, stating to JRD that she was leaving because her

husband was starting a company called Infosys. 'Never start with diffidence. Always

start with confidence. When you are successful you must give back to society. Society

gives us so much, we must reciprocate' was the reply from JRD when Sudha was

skeptical about being successful in their new venture. She was the first to invest her

savings of Rs.10,000 in Infosys, the company whose worth now stands at Rs.30,000

crore, making her the most successful investors surpassing the record of Warren

Buffet. Interestingly, the couple's match maker Mr.GK Prasanna (trained at Telco) later

became the Senior Vice-President at Wipro, a close competitive player to Infosys.

Books which Prasanna had lent to Sudha had Narayana Murthy's name on them, who at

that point of time was earning less than Sudha and was a communist by opinion. The

couple later married, with a wedding expenses of Rs.800. She was the lady taken by

US police into custody during her stay there, mistaking her for an Italian trafficking

drugs. She was the one who supported Narayana Murthy, asking him to go chase his

dream with her savings, but in only three years time (that was the time she gave to

prove himself!), took up another job to support her family during the lean period. She,

while looking after her two kids, wrote programs for Infosys.
