B I ORemy Gerega was born in Perth, Western Australia. Raised in a family where creativity was nurtured, Remy discovered his passion for the creative arts at a young age and went on to study photography and design at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia and at the University of Jönköping in Sweden, graduating with Honours in 2007. Remy has gained international acknowledgement as a fine art photographer and has been recognised for his creative compositions and distinctive style. In pursuit of new unique locations to explore and represent artistically through his photography, he has lived and worked in the US, Canada, Australia, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland and is always searching for new inspiration in his natural environment. His current focus is capturing the intricate detail of iconic Australian natural landscapes and culture.

W H A T E X C I T E S Y O U A B O U T A E R I A L P H O T O G R A P H Y ?“I’ve forever been inspired to travel and see the world from new perspectives. When flying to a new destination I’ll always make sure to book the window seat, getting an overview of the landscape during the descent is my favourite part of the flight, it never ceases to excite.

After a joy flight in the Whitsundays I was instantly hooked. I decided to pursue aerial photography shooting from helicopters and fixed wing aircrafts rather than from a drone because I love the totally new perspective that I am given on the world that surround us. It’s something that you can’t experience flying a drone. I’ve never really been afraid of heights so being up in the air 1500 feet above the ground leaning out a door-less helicopter or plane is one the most exhilarating experiences.

Getting the technique right has taken a few flights. When you’re flying down the coastline at high speeds hanging out of the plane or helicopter you only really ever have a fraction of a second the get the capture that you’re after. Good communication with the pilot is essential, it helps to make the process at lot more efficient as well as ensuring you’re able to the shot that you want as quickly as possible.”

The 6D is my go-to travel camera! I love the lightweight body, especially when paired with something like the EF 40mm f/2.8 STM Lens. Amazing low light performance and overall a fantastic sensor in such a small package is something I can’t go past. Perfect for weekend hikes or overseas trips, it’s one of my favourite Canon bodies I’ve owned.

The Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L II is a very versatile lens for most occasions, also being quick in its focusing and giving sharp image quality. This is my go to lens when going on outings with the family. The Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L II is a winner for sports, wildlife and general action photography. I love this lens for photographing my kids playing sports, good focal range, quick focus and great quality.

I love how quick the autofocus system is when using the Canon EF adapter with my existing Canon lenses. The Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus in my EOS M5 is fast in both video and stills and makes shooting with either native or adapted lenses easy and enjoyable.
