Organizational Philosophy

Culled from google Cartoon

Organizations have evolved over the years based on

technological, political, cultural, legal and socio-

economic factors. In recent times, the business world is

more complex, competitive and full of uncertainties;

demanding an extra effort for businesses to thrive,

make profit and stay ahead of competition. Therefore,

the business approach adopted in every organization

greatly impacts their performance level and this is em-

bedded in the Organization’s Philosophy.

Organizational philosophy in simple terms is a set of

principles guiding employees within a place of work. It

is both real and aspirational because it describes how the organization should function presently and also what it should look like in

the future with the overall objective of a successful or positive business outcome. This is seen in its Vision, Mission and Value

Statements and cut across all departments (HR, Finance & Operations) serving as guide in their processes. The famous Fortune 500

companies have philosophies that have held them as market leaders all through the years; this is no different with GZI, our Vision

is to be the “Leading Aluminium beverage Can Manufacturing Company in Sub-Saharan Africa”. We strive to achieve this through

our mission of “producing high quality aluminium cans using the best technology and personnel, while meeting the expectations

of all our stakeholders in an environmentally friendly manner”. To support our Vision in all our interactions with our stakeholders,

are our core Values of Integrity, Innovation, Service, Excellence and Commitment. These drive the way we do business and in turn

impact the level of our success record.

Having a strong organizational philosophy is a good way to guide employee’s on how the organization expects employee’s to do their work; it

also serves as organisation’s distinctiveness and a good branding tool in a competitive market.

It is important to note that though top management and company owners design or decide on the organisational philosophy, the employees on the

other hand have the responsibility to adhere to and live out this philosophy. This is what makes an organisation’s philosophy effective.

GZ Industries Celebrates her Anniversary

Its was no news that GZ Industries clocked another achieva-

ble year of existence in

Agbara on 26th August

2016. This is to state

that Agbara communi-

ties has housed the

first aluminum bever-

age can manufacturing

company in Nigeria for

over five (5) years on a very successful note till date and

remains a yearly ritual for GZI to celebrate this remarkable

event.

As part of the activities to commemorate this year anniver-

sary was the free medical services to the host communities

and which also sums up as GZI CSR initiative facilitated by

GZI’s Marketing department. Stating from the report of the

organizers, the event witnessed a large turnout which was

attributed to the community accepting the program as a pos-

itive development on their well-being. It was also recorded

that this year’s record outclassed the previous years’ with

over an increase of eleven percent(11%) on its participa-

tion. The organizers reiterated that the yearly event will

continue to improve and serve the communities to their best.

Happy Anniversary to GZ industries….

Keeping Healthy: Better to sleep on the left side than right

According to Dr. John Douillard, sleeping on the left side can

save your life. Lying on the left side has great benefit, while sleep-

ing on the right side give the adverse effects.

Why it is significant to sleep on the left side?

When you sleep on this side during the night, your lymphatic sys-

tem located above the heart, allows the natural draining to take

place in the lymphatic system which will help in filtering toxins,

lymph fluid, and waste through the thoracic duct and the lymph

nodes.

Sleeping on the right side can disturb your digestion in a bad way,

causing the lymph system work slowly.

The lymphatic system becomes incapa-

ble of filtering the toxins or appropriate-

ly moving the lymph fluid throughout the

body and can also pose risk to your life.

The major organ in the lymphatic system is the spleen which filters

the blood and helps the digestive process work properly.

In GZI, our current values are spelt out in the acronym IISEC-

Integrity- quality of being honest and having strong moral princi-

ples. For us at GZI, having integrity means that we do not behave in

ways that go against our values. This means that we behave with

honesty, reliability, and caring- with ourselves and with others. Inno-

vation- “Innovation as defined by Wikipedia, are sets of ideas, devic-

es or methods often viewed in the application of better solutions to

meet new requirements, unarticulated needs or existing market needs

which is accomplished through more effective products, processes,

services and technologies” GZI prides in its innovation and has

showcased this through its unquenching drive for success. - -Service-

Our basic knowledge of the definition of service is that it is an act of

helpful activity. Service is an activity where an immaterial exchange

of values occurs, GZI’s values guide the perspective of the organiza-

tion as well as its actions, hence service is at its best in GZI as Our

employees always look forward to rendering services. - Excellence -

the measure of standard in GZI is measured through our perfor-

mance which is highly rated as outstanding. Commitment - the state

or quality of being dedicated intellectually or emotionally to a cause

or a course of action , In GZI, our trait of sincere and steadfast fixity

of purpose drives our values- Integrity, Innovation, service, Excel-

lence and Commitment. In conclusion, it is important to note that as or-

ganizations grow, at times, values are changed to reflect the current realities.

Let’s all imbibe the habit of living and acting out our current Values.

GZI, Yes we CAN!!!

Treasury Management

Treasury management (sometimes referred to as cash man-

agement) is the creation and governance of policies and

procedures that ensure the company manages financial risk

successfully.

The primary roles includes;

- Raising equity capital and working capital

-Investing surplus funds.

The treasury is the key head office function that enables

business managers to focus on their areas of expertise , be it

manufacturing or sales and supports the main business ac-

tivity. . Whether any company has a separate treasury func-

tion or whether it is incorporated into a finance department

for example, does not change the nature of the underlined

activity aimed at improving the net worth of a company by

managing funds in the most appropriate manner.

….thinking to manage your funds aright, partner with the

accountants!!!

9 Things That Destroy Successful Teams

Ego When someone’s ego is more

important than the team, the pro-

ject, or the goal, things break down

quickly. This can happen when one

person is more interested in

“looking good” for the boss than

getting the work done, when some-

one is always placing blame, or when someone feels and acts

like they are too good to do the necessary work.

Negative competition: lighthearted competition can be a good

thing, especially for certain kinds of teams. In a sales team, for

example, individual members can be motivated by gamifying

their work with a leaderboard

or bonuses for high perfor-

mance. But when competition

goes too far, it can destroy a

sense of teamwork and create a

“you versus me” atmosphere

that isn’t good for anyone.

Poor communication: When the left hand doesn’t know what

the right hand is doing, it causes

all sorts of problems: duplicate

work, forgotten work, missed

deadlines, etc. Communication is

absolutely key to a team that

works.

Micromanagement: When employees have to get approval or

sign-off on every single thing they do, it slows down the work-

flow considerably. Team leaders need to be able to trust em-

ployees to make the right choices, and employees need to feel

comfortable asking for help when they need it. The right bal-

ance here is key.

Criticism without praise : I’ve known managers in my career whose entire management

philosophy was to criticize everything and rarely if ever

dole out praise. I think you can imagine how well that went

over with their team. Constructive criticism (keyword:

constructive) is vital to helping employees grow, but gener-

ous and well timed praise is also important for maintaining

enthusiasm and morale.

Unreasonable expectations: As a member of a team, nothing feels worse than the sinking feel-

ing of knowing that you will never reach your targets, no matter how hard you work. Goals that

are a stretch and require a lot of the team are good, but goals that are way out of reach are de-

pressing. It won’t make employees work harder; it will make them want to give up.

Half-hearted work: Having one or more member of the team who only puts in half an effort —

showing up late, leaving early, checking email all day, etc. —

has a decidedly negative impact on the whole team. It’s im-

portant that everyone is putting in a full, equal effort.

Stubbornness : When members of a team adopt a “my way or the highway” approach, no one

benefits. When working in a team, everyone needs to be open to new ideas, new

approaches, and experimentation — even, and perhaps especially, the leader. Just

because you’ve always done it that way doesn’t mean that’s the best way to do it.

Leading with emotions: Instinct, emotions, and gut feelings all have their place,

but bringing emotions too much into the team can have a deleterious effect. A team member who

always feels spurned when his idea isn’t chosen, who sees slights (real and imagined) in every

interaction, or who takes home the stress and anxiety about a project may be bringing too many

emotions into the workplace

Don’t trash that CAN!

Frankly speaking, whenever we think of recy-

cling, the first things that come to mind are often paper, plastic, and cardboard. It’s easy to

forget about little old aluminum, even though

it is practically made for recycling. Every year, GZI produces over 1 billion aluminum

beverage cans and Nigerians send over 90% of

these aluminum cans to the landfill every year, and yet aluminum is THE MOST recyclable of all materials. Yeah…seems wrong to

you, too!

Aluminum Facts

Aluminum cans are 100% recyclable; meaning every ounce you put in the recy-

cle bin gets recycled and ends up back on a store shelf in just 60 days.

There is literally no limit to how many times aluminum can be reclaimed. Alu-

minum is considered a sustainable metal, meaning it can be recycled again and again with no loss in material or quality.

An aluminum can that is thrown away will still be a can 500 years from now!

Recycling an aluminum can takes just 5% of the energy it takes to make a new

one.

Tossing away an aluminum can wastes as much energy as pouring out half of that can's volume of gasoline (or Petrol)

When we don’t recycle aluminum, we pay a big price. Every year, we create 1.5 million tons of waste worldwide by throwing away aluminum cans. This not only fills up landfills, but it wastes energy and causes extensive environmental damage in creating new cans.

Recycling just a can instead of throwing it away saves enough energy to power a standard laptop computer for 11 hours. Now, multi-

ply that by the more than 1 billion cans that go un-recycled each year in Nigeria alone and you can see how much energy could be saved.

By recycling your aluminum, you’re eliminating waste, creating massive energy savings, and doing your part for the planet. Get start-

ed by signing up for GZI recycling program today. Guess what, as you save energy, you could earn yourself some cool cash!
