As part of the new Eastland transformation, the Centre will progressively update all entries

including lift lobbies. Carpark entries will also be receiving a facelift, with replacement to entry tiles, new carpeting, the introduction of frameless glazing and swing doors.

The NAB and Suzanne Grae entrance will be the first entrances to receive the upgrade. The works are scheduled for late March and April. Upgrade works will predominantly take place outside trading hours, and we will endeavour to maintain customer access to entries at all times.

DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

BALUSTRADE AND HANDRAIL UPGRADES Last month, works commenced to upgrade Centre balustrades and handrails. These works will continue throughout the Centre, continuing around the void on level 2 in the Fashion Mall and above Centre Stage on level 2 outside Myer.

RETAILER MOVEMENTS While works are underway to bring you the new Eastland, several retailer movements will occur over the coming months. Below are some key retailer updates: • JB Hi-Fi has relocated to 99-101 Maroondah Hwy and will reopen as JB Hi-Fi Home in mid-2016. • Toyworld has temporarily relocated to a pop up store opposite Salotti. • Ozmosis has temporarily departed the Centre and will return in a larger format store in mid-2016 as part of the new Eastland. • Terry White Pharmacy is being transformed into a new Priceline Pharmacy format outside of Coles. • Riot Art and Craft has relocated into a pop up store near Coles. • Go Vita has relocated to a pop up store opposite The Optical Superstore/Woolworths.• Priceland will also be relocating to a pop up store at the ex-Ozmosis store on Level 2 in the coming weeks.

Any further store changes will be announced within each edition of Inside Eastland to keep everyone up to date.

TILING & CEILING UPGRADESThis month you will notice some restoration works to the tiling and ceilings located outside Myer Level 2 and opposite Kmart. Works will occur overnight and will not impact trade throughout the day. These works will be staged throughout the mall, and timelines will be issued to retailers accordingly.

AMENITIES UPGRADE The Centre is upgrading all our restrooms, disabled and parents’ room facilities as part of the Centre’s transformation. Over the coming months, all restrooms will be revitalised with brand new and modern finishes, including new tiling, taps, hand dryers and many more premium additions. Please note these works have been staged by Probuild to ensure the closures and works do not occur during key trading periods and customers will be redirected to alternative facilities throughout the Centre.

The importance of the OH&S duty for workers is underlined by significant

penalties under the laws for breaches of the act. For example, workers may face penalties of up to $300,000 and/or 5 years imprisonment for the most serious offence causing death or serious injury, or the risk of death or serious injury, involving recklessness.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO MEET YOUR OH&S DUTY?Some of the things you can do to meet your OH&S duty are to:

1 Follow any reasonable instruction to comply with the OH&S laws, e.g., to remove any

hazards from your workplace such as rubbish bins & trolleys in fire corridors, to refrain from undertaking a dangerous or risky activity.

2 Comply with OH&S policy, e.g., ensuring all new staff, contractors or visitors

under your control or supervision undertake induction training and are made aware of centre specific requirements such as parking & smoking policies.

3Be alert to, and identify and report, any hazards in your workplace to your

manager, e.g., blocked fire exits, fire hazards, faulty electrical equipment, hazardous goods or substances.

4Assess the risks of, and if necessary avoid, any activities which may affect your

health and safety, or that of your workmates, e.g., lifting heavy objects (e.g., archive boxes), stacking objects at unsafe heights, blocking fire exits.

If you have any queries please contact Andre D’Lasselle, Operations Manager, at Centre Management on 03 9870 8377 or email A.D’[email protected].

KEY DATE EARTH HOUREarth Hour is an international event that asks households and businesses to turn off their lights and non-essential electrical appliances for one hour on the evening of Saturday 28th March at 8:30pm (local time) to promote electricity conservation and raise awareness of environmental impacts.

Earth Hour is now in its ninth year, spanning across millions of people around the world including 14 different time zones. Eastland is proud to be taking part in the initiative once again. Between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on Saturday 28th March, we will be turning off all exterior signage and as much Centre lighting as is possible without placing any customers or staff at risk.

We invite all retailers to join us by switching off any non-essential lighting, shop and signage lighting and appliances during this period (or overnight). You can take part by turning off appliances at the power point – every little bit helps!
