INPUT, OUTPUT AND

STORAGE DEVICES IN

THE WORLD

INPUT DEVICESInput devices are any electronic devices connected to a computer that

produce input signals .

Keyboard is an example of input device for text input.

Scanner is an example of input device for graphical as well as text input.

A microphone is an example of input device for audio output.

A webcam is an example of input device for audio input.

A mouse is also an input device but it is called a pointing device used to input data into a computer.

a) Input device for textInput device Explanation Picture

Punched card A punched card input is a computer input device used to read executable computer programs, source code, and data from punched cards, most early computers used punched cards are there main input device.

Computer Keyboard A computer keyboard is a series of electronic switches used to input data into a computer.

ITU-T text entry (phone keyboard)

With the popularity of text messaging, text entry with mobile phones has gained use. Each key contains multiple characters, and these are reached through multiple key presses. This system has been mostly displaced with the widespread use of touchscreens on smartphones and is now mostly found on budget feature phones.

Virtual Keyboard A virtual keyboard is a software component that allows a user to enter characters. A virtual keyboard can usually be operated with multiple input devices, which may include a touchscreen, an actual computer keyboard and a computer mouse.

Light Pen A light pen is a computer input device used in conjunction with a computer's CRT display.

Digital Pen A digital pen is an input device which captures the handwriting or brush strokes of a user, converts handwritten analog information created using "pen and paper" into digital data, enabling the data to be utilized in various applications.

Graphics Tablet A graphics tablet or digitizer is a computer input device that enables a user to hand-draw images, animations and graphics, similar to the way a person draws images with a pencil and paper. These tablets may also be used to capture data or handwritten signatures.

MICR(Magnetic Ink Character Recognition)

MICR (magnetic ink character recognition) is a technology used to verify the legitimacy or originality of paper documents, especially checks. Special ink, which is sensitive to magnetic fields, is used in the printing of certain characters on the original documents.

Magnetic stripe card A magnetic stripe card is a type of card capable of storing data by modifying the magnetism of tiny iron-based magnetic particles on a band of magnetic material on the card. The magnetic stripe, sometimes called swipe card or magstripe, is read by swiping past a magnetic reading head.

Optical Mark Reader(OMR)

A special scanning device that can read carefully placed pencil marks on specially designed documents. OMR is frequently used in forms, questionnaires, and answer-sheets.

Bar Code Reader A barcode reader (or barcode scanner) is an electronic device that can read and output printed barcodes to a computer.

Optical Character Reader a computer peripheral device enabling letters, numbers, or other characters usually printed on paper to be optically scanned and input to a storage device, such as magnetic tape. The device uses the process of optical character recognition.

a)Input device for graphicsDevice Explanation Picture

Scanner A scanner is a device that captures images from photographic prints, posters, magazine prints, and similar sources for computer editing and display.

Digital Camera A digital camera allows you to take pictures and store the photographed images digitally.

c)Input device for audioDevice Explanation Picture

Microphone A device that converts sound waves into analogous electrical waves.

MIDI Keyboard A MIDI keyboard is typically a piano-style user interface keyboard device used for sending MIDI signals or commands over a USB or MIDI cable to other devices connected and operating on the same MIDI protocol interface.

d)Input device for videoDevice Explanation Picture

CCTV Camera A Closed Circuit Television(CCTV) video camera is a type of digital video camera that enables a home or small business user to capture video and still images.

Webcam A webcam is a digital camera that displays its output on a web page.

Digital Video Camera A digital video camera allows you to record full motion and store the captured motion digitally.

e)Pointing deviceDevice Explanation Picture

Mouse a mouse is a pointing device that detects two-dimensional motion relative to a surface.

Trackball A trackball is a pointing device consisting of a ball held by a socket containing sensors to detect a rotation of the ball about two axes—like an upside-down mouse with an exposed protruding ball.

Graphics tablet A graphics tablet or digitizer is a computer input device that enables a user to hand-draw images, animations and graphics, similar to the way a person draws images with a pencil and paper. These tablets may also be used to capture data or handwritten signatures.

Touchscreen A touchscreen is an input device normally layered on the top of an electronic visual display of an information processing system.

OUTPUT DEVICESAn output device is any piece of computer hardware equipment used to communicate the results of data processing carried out by an information processing system (such as a computer) which converts the electronically generated information into human-readable form.

STORAGE DEVICE

What is computer storage?

Informations and documents are stored in computer storage so that it can be retrieved whenever they are needed later on.Computer storage is the storing of data in electromagnetic form to be accessed by a computer.

TYPES OF COMPUTER STORAGE

1. Primary storage2. Secondary storage

PRIMARY STORAGEPrimary storage is the main memory in a computer. It stores data and programs that can be directly accessed by the processor.2 types of primary storage. 1. RAM 2. ROM

Random Access Memory(RAM)

RAM is an acronym of Random Access Memory which means the data and programs in RAM can be read(retrieved) and written(stored).

RAM stores data during and after processing.RAM is volatile which means the program and data in RAM are lost

when the computer is powered off.A computer uses RAM to hold temporary instructions and data needed

to complete tasks. This enables the CPU to access instructions and data stored in the memory very quickly.

Read Only Memory(ROM)ROM is the acronym of Read Only Memory. The data or

program in ROM can only be read but cannot be written at all.ROM is another type of memory permanently stored inside

the computer.ROM is non-volatile. It holds the program and data when

the computer is powered off.Programs in ROM are pre recorded.

SECONDARY STORAGE

Secondary storage is another alternative storage to save your work and documents. It is very useful to store programs and data for future use.It is non volatile, which means it does not need power to maintain the information stored in it. It will store the information until it is erased.

CLOUD STORAGECloud storage is a model of data storage where the digital data is stored in logical pools, the physical storage spans multiple servers (and often locations), and the physical environment is typically owned and managed by a hosting company. These cloud storage providers are responsible for keeping the data available and accessible, and the physical environment protected and running. People and organizations buy or lease storage capacity from the providers to store user, organization, or application data.Cloud storage services may be accessed through a co-located cloud computer service, a web service application programming interface (API) or by applications that utilize the API, such as cloud desktop storage, a cloud storage gateway or Web-based content management systems.
