• All Group II metals (except Be) react with H2O to form
metal hydroxides and H2 gas (Mg reacts with hot water).
e.g.Ca(s) + 2H2O(l) Ca(OH)2(aq) + H2(g)
Sr(s) + 2H2O(l) Sr(OH)2(aq) + H2(g)
• Be does not react with H2O
