JUNAID SADEQUE PHD Dr Junaid Sadeque is a recognized subject matter expert in sequence stratigraphy and sedimentology As a Senior Geologist at AECOM he plays a pivotal role in applying sequence stratigraphic concepts for predicting contamination flow paths and developing CSMs Over the past 10 years he has taught numerous professional courses in applied sequence stratigraphy both locally and internationally His strong background of previously working for the oil sector helps him bring in fresh and cutting-edge concepts of geology to the environmental world

RYAN SAMUELS Ryan Samuelsrsquo education and career have focused on extrapolating sedimentological and stratigraphic information from cores and well-logs for sequence stratigraphic analysis Prior to joining AECOM he was in the petroleum industry conducting sequence stratigraphic analysis in the Denver Basin Powder River Basin and Gulf of Mexico Now as a lead stratigrapher at AECOM he is successfully applying his technical skills to develop comprehensive integrated Conceptual Site Models and guide the design of cost-effective remedial strategies

OUR SPEAKERS JUNAID SADEQUE PHD amp RYAN SAMUELS

Predictive Integrated Stratigraphic Modeling (PRISMreg) is an innovative state-of-the-art methodology that provides a detailed understanding of the subsurface geology to better predict the fate and transport of contaminants at complex sites Unlike traditional methods of subsurface investigation which often fail to properly address the subsurface heterogeneity PRISMreg leverages Environmental Sequence Stratigraphy (ESS) and other best practices in geology and geophysics to create detailed cross sections of sediment layering that are consistent with known depositional patterns These cross sections are then combined with hydrology and chemistry data to build fully integrated comprehensive CSMs that can be used to develop more effective investigative and remedial strategies

REGISTER

Mr Eklund is the Director of the Air Quality Practice in the Americas and the Global Practice Leader for Vapor Intrusion at AECOM He has a BS in Chemistry and 42 years of experience

Mr Eklund is the author of approximately 20 journal articles 30 US government publications and 50 peer-reviewed papers in conference proceedings He has served as a testifying expert in US State and Federal Court as well as for permit hearings enforcement actions and international arbitration proceedings

OUR SPEAKER BART EKLUND

Two questions of frequent interest for vapor intrusion studies are 1) what attenuation factor is reasonable to assume for large industrial buildings and 2) how many rounds of testing are needed to adequately characterize sub-slab soil gas An on-going investigation at a major industrial facility in the Midwestern US provides insights to these questions which will be presented in this webinar The testing has been underway for approximately five years Paired sub-slab and indoor air data have been collected at over 700 unique

locations across 77 buildings Over 1600 sample pairs have been analyzed for 65 target analytes resulting in a data set of over 100000 data pairs Various volatile chlorinated compounds were detected in the sub-slab samples (eg PCE TCE CFC-12) For each sampling event at each building a building-specific attenuation factor (α) was developed Results are presented for 166 building-specific attenuation factors generated to date

6

Across Canada and the US many large infrastructure project teams rightly consider public and Indigenous concerns but if not done well it can sometimes lengthen the overall project timeline AECOMrsquos Social Strategy process is designed to help stakeholders and clients understand the balance between social environmental and economic considerations thereby clarifying choices and leading to enhanced social consent

The growing push for businesses to demonstrate their commitment to environment social and governance (ESG) principles increases the importance of achieving social consent Our experts discuss how a successful ESG process increases the certainty of project implementation improves relationships with regulators and affected communities and leads to reduced cost and risk
