Yagan Square – Innovations in Design Presenter: James Taylor, Senior Structural Engineer, Aurecon Yagan Square will be a major public entertainment hub created in the heart of the Perth CBD. Rather than just being a transit area for the thousands of workers and residents connecting them to the growing Perth Public Transportation, Yagan Square will be a place to have meet, play, eat and shop from a showcase of local WA produce. This talk will discuss the numerous challenges encountered during the design including building over and around multiple existing live Rail tunnels and existing Heritage Horseshoe Bridge. It will also cover the new and complex computer modelling carried out i.e. environmental wind modelling around the precinct, and also cover the development in leveraging the BIM process and it’s interoperability capabilities in design development to effectively communicate design intent. Rate My Space: Disruptive innovation for the property sector Presenter: Dr Samantha Hall, Co-Founder and Director of SimplyCarbon We spend 90% of our days indoors and these spaces should be healthy, and maximise productivity potential. Recently winning an Innovation & Commercialisation Award through Curtin University, Rate My Space is a Trip Advisor for buildings, giving building occupants a voice. The app combines science and crowd sourced user reviews to bring occupants back to the forefront of design. This talk will go through the concept and design of Rate My Space, and the importance for embedding innovation into organisations with some tips on where to start. 3D Printing – Creating Positive Disruption Presenters: Arthur Ong, Founding Partner, iPrint 3D & Anthony Radici, Founding Partner, iPrint 3D 3D printing is the common name given to creating a 3D physical object by combining successive layers of materials generally based on a CAD design model. Also known as rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing, this technology is having a significant and positive impact across a swathe of industries from building and construction, medical and dental, industrial design, prototyping, and fashion. iPrint3D are at the forefront of 3D printing applications in Australia and will be discussing and exploring various real world use cases for the application of this technology.
