Objectives and teaching methodsThe graduate degree programme in Innovation in Architecture aims to produce a European professional architect (as provided for by the directive 2005/36/CE of the European Parliament) equipped with a sound cultural background – both on a liberal arts and technical-scientific basis – needed to tackle the complexity of the contemporary architectural design. This is in fact the result of a dialogue between specific knowledge and skills required to sort operating issues out concerning the design and transformation of the different settlement contexts inhabited by man that feature the contemporary architecture, city and environment. Therefore, the design themes dealt with mirror the emerging architectural, urban and environmental issues of the European and international panorama and will be tackled considering the most updated and innovative methods and techniques. The programme aims to meet the increasing national and European request for professional skills needed to suitably G

manage the complex process of design, from a viewpoint of energetic, environmental, even cultural and social sustainability as well as of financial feasibility. The focus is on the architectural design as a tool of experimental exploration and application of a number of disciplines that contribute to its definition. Students learn to design and operate within the existing construction and environment assets by means of a method featuring the application of new knowledge and the compatibility with the resources available. The educational activities included in the graduate degree programme in Innovation in Architecture teach students a new way to consider and design architecture and the territory that the contemporary society cannot stray from any longer. For this purpose, courses and design experience comply with a complex and balanced educational path embracing the different disciplines (organised into integrated workshops or courses and activities directly chosen by students), and aim to equip students with an updated framework of learning and knowledge related to the creation of architecture.
Professional profileStudents with the graduate degree in Innovation in Architecture may perform any activity as a self-employed architect recognised in Europe, whether individually or as part of a group. They may also hold positions of high responsibility in public and private institutions and bodies (national and European institutions, public and private bodies and companies, professional studios and design companies, public and private research facilities) that operate in construction, transformation
